WOW, biggest 3day opening weekend ever in the UK!

Without previews:

HP1 £9,800,000.............Total £66,096,060
HP2 £10,700,000...........Total £54,780,731
HP3 £9,300,000.............Total £46,077,489
HP4 £14,900,000...........Total ~£50,000,000??????

A great weekend, although i am sure HP2 & HP3 would have posted fairly similar numbers if they hadn't had previews. I guess they wanted to break another record!

At this rate i don't see this grossing any less than $900m.

The domestic gross looks like it could hit $300m, It's $102m now with Thanksgiving all to itself, it should be at least $205m by this Sunday......and i just don't see it dying with Christmas just around the corner.

Overseas, it's breaking franchise records everywhere....at least $600m for sure.

I think it will rather be at $195 million by Sunday. It IS frontloaded. I see around $285 million in the USA and just above $600 million overseas.

That is really amazing considering it is without previews.

It's quite funny, HP4 had the best five day start in the history of German cinema, but Warner still tries to cheat a little...

They declared the whole Wednesday as preview and included it into the four day weekend to make it the biggest four-day start as well. You simply cannot have a whole day and include it into another one. If the movie was in cinemas for the whole 24 hours, than it has to be counted as an own day, and not as a part of the four day weekend.

You might as well take the whole run of a somewhat successful movie and declare it the largest opening day in history, as you can pretty much define what "a day" really means, if you go by Warner...

Hehe, true that. How was it handled with ROTK, though? Did they publish official 4-day numbers for ROTK?

2,685,158 admissions in Germany in the 5-day period. It just managed to beat ROTK's 5-day opening for the best five day opening ever.

As the poster above said, WB tries to declare it the best opening weekend ever (4-day) by counting the previews towards the weekend. In fact, it is the 3rd best one as around 285,000 people saw it on Wednesday, so its 4-day result is around 2.4 million admissions,

Still, that is amazing and the total number of admissions should be around 8-10 million.

judging by the advance sales for the weekend at my theatre, Potter is down about 60-65% from last week, hehe.

thanks to HP4 it was the busiest weekend ever in Britain at the cinemas judging by admissions or at least since 1985

Well from what I have gathered so far it looks like a 350k+ adm. opening can be expected in Poland. Probably biggest weekend of the year is coming :)

GERMANY UPDATE:

The current tracking in Germany has it on the course to a 1,300,000 admissions weekend in Germany and a total of around 4,550,000 admissions after 12 days. That would mean a drop of around 45-46% from the last 4-day weekend. It is decent, but the past two Potter flicks dropped much better.

At this pace it should reach 8 million admissions, but not go far beyond that.

Also, last weekend had the highest number of ticket sales since records began, something like 3.8 million, mostly thanks to HP4.

GERMANY - Weekend 2 (Adms.)

4.55m admissions would put it behind Harry Potter 2, looks like the mid-week business wasn't as strong as past Pottter hits as well.

LOTR: TTT - 2.082.480 adms. (+0%) - 5.629.205 adms.
LOTR: FOTR - 2.071.465 adms. (+12%) - 5.151.793 adms.
LOTR: ROTK - 1.882.958 adms. (-26%) - 5.562.998 adms.
Harry Potter 1 - 1.752.126 adms. (-34.5%) - 5.119.871 adms.
Harry Potter 2 - 1.670.014 adms. (-33%) - 4.969.745 adms.
Finding Nemo - 1.381.341 adms. (-29%) - 3.969.850 adms.
Independence Day - 1.363.672 adms. (-29%)
Jurassic Park - 1.298.788 adms. (-25%)
7 Zwerge - 1.272.259 adms. (-19%) - 3.475.391 adms.
Harry Potter 3 - 1.270.593 adms. (-35%) - 3.821.060 adms.
(T)Raumschiff - 1.187.538 adms. (-42%) - 4.622.347 adms.
Titanic - 1.121.078 adms. (+8%) - 2.517.246 adms.

Judging by the three theatres around me, it wasn't.

However, I think the projected 1.3 million for the weekend is a bit too low. The Sunday matinees are almost as sold out as last weekend, even though Friday and Saturday weren't as full. Also, weather gets colder and more people go to theatres. I see around 1,45 million for the weekend and around 4.7 million admissions overall.

I wonder if any movie in near future will dethrone Harry Potter 1 from its 2nd spot at the all-time charts in Germany, admissions-wise. Doesn't look like it.

Well, HP7 could do it , and Hobbitt has a good chance as well.

Though I think a local movie could do it......anything like a Der Shuh Des Manity or Raumshicff in the near horizon?

Hmmm, a sequel to 7 Zwerge, incase you remember that one.

Then again, Traumschiff declined from Manitu, so I expect the same here. A bigger opening, a smaller total.

This year hasn't been big for local films, only one crossed 2 million admissions (Der Weiße Massai).

I don't see any movie in near future doing so. Inflation is not a helping hand here, since we are talking admissions and not money.

Titanic won't ever be dethroned. Around 18 million admissions...insane.
