The other thread is still open, but it seems that no one's really watched the film...

Fargo and Reservoir Dogs, on the other hand, were the runner-ups in the poll. So, we will either be watching one of the two (Depending on the poll) and discussing Tarantino or the Coen brothers. The following week (or, whenever we continue it), we'll discuss the other one, and then I'll devise some way to pick from the other 16 directors.

We'll discuss this the week following this one. May I remind you, though, that both films happen to be cheap in stores. At Borders, Fargo retails for $14.99 while Reservoir Dogs is $12.99. At Best Buy, Fargo is $14.99 and Reservoir Dogs is $9.99. So, if you don't have a problem blind-buying or these films are missing from your collections (and you think you'll enjoy them), putting down $15 or so might turn out to be a "good" investment.

If you plan on watching the film that's voted on, please mention it in the thread. For now, vote on a second film to watch (remember, we will cover all directors).

Watch the film on the December 3rd-5th weekend. Or earlier. As long as you can participate in a discussion...

The easier choice that I see most people went for is RD. But there is a reason that Fargo won a couple of Oscars.

Mean Streets? Resevoir Dogs? Its like all anyone here wants to watch is glamorized crime...I think we should watch a movie about unglamorous botched crimes by everyday people for once.

I did vote for Reservoir Dogs, but that's only because a friend of mine has Fargo ATM (Which he SHOULD watch this weekend).

Whch I SHOULD have watched about 10 months ago.

Another friend has my copy of the Usual Suspects, but I have his copy of Narc. Moi movie was better, though, Narc def. wasn't bad.

Besides the above, the 2 Oscars, especially the bolded one, should give the informed plenty to discuss about Fargo. Just a brilliant script.

I agree. Can we go Campion's The Piano? I know alot of people hated it...but they were guys, and she is one of the few female directors people can get their hands on nowadays. I think its a great movie to debate. Her and Lina Wertmueller (For Seven Beauties...see my full review), and now Sophia Coppolla are still the only women to ever be nominated for best director`at the oscars.

What about a real love/hate movie like The Blair Witch Project?

Good choice but also maybe The Pianist (2002) It was an Oscar winner, how good, then you have the A Brody factor, did he deserves the Oscar, and then the Roman Polanski factor. All of the which should be worth of a good debate.

Like here, GMan says not only should Roman Poanski never have been eligible for an Oscar, for being a convicted on the lam felon for the incident with the 13 year old, he should be hunted down till he is caught.

The Pianist is definitely not a really controversial love/hate movie. This movie is liked by 95% of the people who have seen it (with Dolcevita being one of the remaining 5% ). The movie has amde it to the TOP 250 at IMDB. It is not a love/hate movie. This is what it all is about, not the fact if Polanski deserved an oscar because he has commited a crime. The discussion is directly about the movie itself.

Well then as you said with Dolce being one of the 5 % it would be interesting to hear her debating.

Um, why don't you read further down in that thread that I posted? She elaborates a bit more than just saying that it is overrated.

Again another reply without waiting for Dolce to answer. Maybe she wouldn't be interested but I think she should decide. Or would you be answering for her also in the debate?

And without reading those posts, was there any kind of debating involving her points, did she convince anyone, did her opinion change.

Do you fully understand what a debate is? How the back and forth is the interesting part. As you said, 95 to 5, that along says that the 5 should be part of a debate.

I know I felt the same way, as that is why I recommended it. It was a poor mans Schlinder's List and was way over-rated.

There are movies that are much more debatable. Dead Man that was rbought up is one of those as well as The Piano and The Blair Witch Project. They have their audiences really split.

It's sometimes unbelievable how you guys get into this everyday.
