It's only odd because you still fail to understand the appeal, or at least fail to admit it. The producers, by not calling out the reviews and the actors, seem to be relying on *omg* Johnny CASH appeal to sell this movie.

I'm not sold on the Johnny Cash statistics, and I do not think it is the only thing that will sell this movie (I'm also not convinced it will do over 100million, I think it's range is 75 to 135... big range), but you have to acknowledge that there is that appeal out there that will sell this movie.

And if 50 Cent can sell a film, potentially to 50 million, those millions of American adults can at least help this film get past the quarter-century mark and beyond.

No no. It didn't even say '53553 million albums sold' or whatever. It was more along the lines of 'The man in black. He was dangerous. He was sharp. He was cool'. I don't think they said Johnny Cash's name at all. There wasn't much narration in the ad, most of it was Phoenix or some other guys talking about the jail and stuff.

andaroo, he's reaching and just being argumentative again. Don't take his mindset as anything that the masses will be like.

One doesn't need to say anything about Cash. Everybody knows who the man in black is. Everyone knows his voice. The man is an iconic figure in music. Why do we have to keep going over this?

Because some 14 year old boy is convinced that everybody on the planet lives in his world and lacks the experiences that he does, which is why that same 14 year old just tried to claim that King Kong is not a remake because 1933 was a long time ago and nobody remembers. (I'll just leave out the fact that is was also remade in 1976, because I'm too stunned by the simple mindedness of that statement to even continue.)

I'm just repeating what I saw. I barely took a stance, the farthest I got in that department was saying that I myself didn't like it. Its not like I said 'The marketing sucked!' or 'It won't make any money with that, mark my words!' or 'Everyone will hate it!'.

You told us what you saw and presented as if those were the eyes everybody would see those TV spots with, and threw your negatives all over it like your POV actually matters and this film was made for somebody born in 1990. News flash, it wasn't, and there are lots of people that were born before 1990 that go to movies.

also:

1) 14 or 15, big deal. I'm 36, and I didn't make a point of correcting you for saying I was 37.

2) you tried to claim that it was barely a remake and was only being loosely based on the classic that nobody has seen because 1933 was a long time ago...

Opening Wknd: 24m ( not even Potter can stop Cash)

Domestic Total: 176m ( this includes a bewst pic win, which I expect it to get)

This is a definite lock for 100 Million now and could possibly do 150 Million with a Best Picture nomination/win. It looks like a crowd pleaser that will also get outstanding reviews.

The more I think about this, the more I think it will do 100 million.

Be patient with me, guys, and I'll update the list.

If Jarhead can open around $30 million. I have no doubt that Walk the Line will do at least 35 million opening weekend. And 100 million from there is not hard for an Oscar film.

It's about damn time. (although with Harry Potter 4, I doubt it'll get quite that high on opening weekend.)

Like I said, I'll stay on the sane side. $35 million opening weekend will never happen. Walk the Line doesn't have the support from a younger audience that Jarhead does, and the marketing isn't even *close* to being as effective.

Where is the proof that Jarhead is making a lot of money because of support from a younger audience.

And that said... why doesn't Walk the Line appeal to a younger (and more female) audience?

I don't have statistics, but the teens who saw the Walk the Line trailer at my Good Night and Good Luck showing, and talked about their boyfriends for half the movie, expressed vocal desire to go see the movie despite my wanting to shut them up.
