To prepare for the release of Jarhead, I decided to watch Three Kings for the first time. What an intelligent film. The funny moments came when I was least expected, and the pace was good. B+.

I wrote a longer paragraph(though I rushed the typing in it) in the Everyones a Critic section, but I'll go through a few points. It strived to be something more than dumb kung-fu, but in the process they screwed the hell out of all of their other details. The storyline was batched, the acting for the most part was terrible, the scenes did not have continuity for flow together at all. Between the dramatic Morgan Freeman-Victoria scenes, and the Bob Hoskins underground death-fighting scenes, there was nothing to place them together. They felt seperate, both very bad. The main point of the movie was to be as sentimental and as real as possible, with the struggling of Jet Li and him remembering his past. But then they make the kung-fu as dumb as possible. He dodges a bullet at point blank, he does slow-motion backflips, insane twists in the air. You can tell a lot of it is CGI SFX. He instantly kills the champion fighter by magically superpunching him 3 times in a row in the neck. But what I thought dragged the film down the most was that it was unbarably slow and unengaging. Aka, it was as boring and as uninteresting as could be. It dragged on much too long, and it was hard to feel excitement for anything that was going on. And the film was hands down the ugliest out of any films I've seen this year, it was just terrible filming style. Overall I just didn't enjoy watching it one bit, I felt like shutting it off a couple of times through it.

Hmm, I think that you need to realize that the movie was stylized, and like many French action movies was supposed to be somewhat wild and over-the-top. It's a basic story, and I'll be the first to admit that there were a number of incidents with cars that no one should have been able to survive, but I thought it was very bold and some of the sillier moments only helped make it as entertaining as it was. Not every action movie needs to be completely grim and droll, and this one has much more energy then most that have come out this year. You said the acting was bad, that's something neither of us are going to be able to convince the other one of, although myself, I think that this is easily Jet Li's best performance to date andt Bob Hoskins was wonderfully loopy. That said, I'll admit it's not one of Morgan Freeman's better roles, but he's still dependably solid. The action was obviously unrealistic, but what fun would it have been if it was? You may as well just go ahead and criticize a dog for barking. If you're seriously trying to tell me you were sitting there saying "Hey wait, that couldn't possibly happen!" you should be slapping yourself for renting the movie in the first place, as you clearly can't seem to suspsend any disbelief. The fights were almost balletic at points, incredibly savage in others, but always in full frame, and man if it's hard not to appreciate some action scenes where you can actually tell what's going on rather then the cheap and confusing jump cut edits used in any dime-a-dozen Jerry Bruckheimer flick. I'm sorry if the character development and human drama bored you, but for me that's what made it so great.

That's right you're not!

I haven't watched a movie in, like, a month.

Woo-hoo! :clap2:

Deliverance- A

I'd always avoided watching Deliverance, regardless of its good reputation, because I never had any interest in watching four guys be stalked, raped, and murdered by a couple of hillbillies for 2 hours. Well, folks, I was wrong. Because that's not what the movie is about at all.

In fact, the famous "hillbillies" everyone associates with the movie play a much smaller role that you'd expect. It's really about nature. It's exciting as hell, too. An amazing movie all around, and I'm ashamed I hadn't given it a chance sooner.

The Uninvited- A-
Chilling, funny little ghost story I caught on TCM last night. Great entertainment, with enough genuinely creepy moments to make perfect Halloween viewing. A much better "Haunted-Seaside-Mansion-overlooking-a-cliff" movie than Ghost and Mrs. Muir.

The Changeling- B-
Overrated but intriguing haunted house movie with George C. Scott.

Anna Christie- C
Greta Garbo's first "talkie," but it hasn't aged well. Garbo's great, and there's a lot of historical value here, but that's pretty much all the movie has going for it.

I just finished watching the best film of 2005.

I have no idea why I still haven't wrote up a review on it. Revenge of the Sith has it all!

I know...

But I figure I'll be able to go crazy next month (when I'm done with all my stuff), thus making up for it.

Underwhelmed. It's just so... so... tedious. Alba was nice, though.

HAHA! This movie is just a piece of shit! Everything was awful, The story, the dialogue, and the acting ooh god the acting :nonono: I don’t normally give a crap about the acting, but I couldn’t get over it!

Anyways….It was a VERY unintelligent fun summer flick with very cool action sequences, somewhat boring at times…but it had the lamest ending ever!, “Why don't you just tell me you love me, you pussy!”

ill give it a C

Monster - B+

Wow, what a performance by Charlie Theron. My expectation of her performance was pretty high given she won so many awards with it, and I had my doubt that maybe it's more because of the transformation than the actual performance, but she indeed pulled it off. Ricci was miscasted however and made you wonder how a kid like her in the movie could fall for Charlie.
