Then you agree that it'll have much female appeal, right?

Moolah posted this video in the Oscar forum, and it shows some clips from it, including both Reese and Joaquin singing together.

Climb aboard! woot! woot! :towel:

I have to agree with the doubters. If it gets a best picture nomination and gets pushed back into enough theaters at that point by the studio I think it will stand a good chance of getting to 100m. Otherwise however, I think it will earn 60m-70m. In regards to the comparisions to Ray, I think more has to be considered then just the popularity of each person. Yes, the popularity of Cash and Charles makes a difference, but I don't think that was ever the primary thing going for Ray in the first place. Ray had one of the most effective trailers of last year IMO, and at the time it seemed to me like a film with sleeper potential. I think simply that the main factor for a movie like this is whether audiences believe it looks good/interesting. In the case of Ray there was an easily marketable premise that I believe sold people on the film: that of the challenges of being blind. The trailer largely centered on that. As for Walk the Line, the trailer is certainly well made, and should be fairly effective, but I don't think it has anything that is particularly memorable. I don't see how it will be marketed to open at 20m or more.

the more i see things from this movie, the more i notice how extremely generic and run of the mill it looks. the only thing that blinds everyone to its generic"ness" and everything is the fact that the story is about Cash. Nothing more. first i was just going by a couple of trailers. Now i'm looking at the posters and the movie is seeming even more and more bleh!

Yeah, I seriously can't think of anything from any of the marketing that stands out besides the message: "This is a movie about Cash." I don't think any movie can do well on that alone. 8 Mile was helped more by the great marketing and "Lose Yourself" then by Eminem's name alone.

dont forget the controversy surrounding the film and the fact that people were claiming it to be good right after we had all witnessed glitter and crossroads.

i see this film doing Hidalgo if it wasn't for Cash. But i'm assuming Cash is big (know little about him) so the film will probably have better legs. 100 is possible with great reviews and oscar buzz. else .. i see this landing in the 70 to 90 mark.

People are still not taking into consideration the mid-western, southern, working class, groupie factor. but oh well.....you'll see.

i dont think dp and i are dismissing that at all. even crap movies have huge followings and do well right? i think the point here is just that remove cash's name and all you have left is something plain, and a story told before .. just in another setting. it could be good but nothing about it so far screams anything beyond decent.

It about Cash and nothing more? It's as much about June. Lots of women watch Oprah, so that video clip and Oprah show about it will be getting out to millions and millions of women. It's got female appeal, for sure. It'll have male appreal. Lots of it. It'll have appeal to all walks of life. Ray didn't, and I'm still confused why anybody would liken Walk the Line to anything other than Coal Miner's Daughter.

After you killed yourself with that Doom discussion, I can't even believe this thread anymore.

Cash fans will listen to their CD's and wait 'till DVD, just like Doom fans will play the game and wait 'till DVD.

ok

so this film is about Cash and June. My point still stands. remove the names of the people they're suppose to be and this movie sounds like a run of the mill movie. honestly. look at those posters. forget who those 2 are suppose to be. are those posters anything more than "ok"? i dont think so.

Killed myself with the Doom discussion? How exactly?

A video game is not going to compare to the life story of an American music cultural icon that is Oscar caliber stuff. If you had more sophisticated and discerning film tastes, you'd see that pretty clearly. :hahaha:

Ahem:

The Pacifier $113,086,868

The Aviator $102,610,330
Million Dollar Baby $100,492,203
Ray $75,331,600
Sideways $71,503,593
Finding Neverland $51,680,613

Yeah. The Pacifier outgrossed every BP nominee from 2004. I wouldn't be so sure on putting this on quality's back Mav...

You killed yourself by saying, by far, the worst box-office comment I've ever heard (no offense):

"Fans of The Rock will watch Walking Tall and wait until DVD."

Sorry, but that's just plain dumb. Teenagers (who rush to the movies more than older people) aren't going to rush out to see a movie based on a game they're a fan of or starring a person they're a fan of, but old fans of Johnny Cash will?

EDIT: Nevermind. It's not quite the worst comment. Star Wars' "Will Smith is not a draw because Bagger Vance didn't do well" was the worst. Heh.

Yadda yadda yadda, the same has been said in this thread for the past 4 pages, from both sides. Have some patience, soon the truth will be obvious as the movies comes out : )
