I was just informed that my GF's cousin will be SHIPPED over to Iraq to fight the "terrorists"
She as well as him are really bummed. He was just getting ready to quit the reserves.

Thanks for the positive words guys :D

Thats what I told my gf, however she told me something along the lines of he didnt expect that being a "navy" reserve would mean he had a good chance of going. Also, he wanted out but for some reason had to remain active. He just got married to and is about to have a baby

As long as we find those WMD's right?...erm...I mean the ties to al-queda...erm...well, as long as....

Fuckin bush

Best of luck to your gf's cousin. Let's hope everything comes out alright (And, he's not secretly shipped to Iran or N. Korea)

Well I'm a bit with Neo on this one. If you don't want to fight, don't join the army, don't support a military president, and don't encourage don't give the army your mental abilities and physical presence. Otherwise, expect to fight. I'm not exactly crying for the dudes at Enron when they went on trial. Don't want to get burned...don't feed the fire.

Hopefully nothing will happen to him, I don't wish anything on our men and women there just because they made some mistakes in the past anymore than I wish death or paralyses on someone who was yound and silly and got in sped too fast in a car. Tell your GF that elections are *planned* for the end of the year, so *maybe* he won't be there that long. Its a long shot, but probably the best news to hold on to.

By the way, the elections are scheduled for Jan. 30th (will my sister get a birthday present?).

My cousin is going to Iraq in January as well.

I'm sorry to hear that, of course. Iraq is not safe and it will by far not be safe for months and years to come.

However, I can only repeat what neo_wolf said. He did sign up for military voluntary. Here in Germany, people do have to serve their time in the army (or to alternative service i.e. hospitals, churches etc.) whether they want it or not. In the USA, it is all voluntary, so if someone decides to get into it, it cannot be denied that it is their own fault. You cannot "assume" that you won't get into some real military action. If you sign up for the military, there are consequences to be thought of.

I feel very very sad for his family, though and I hope he'll stay fine as I don't want his family to be without a father.
