Domino - Some people will hate this movie a lot. If you can't stand the fast, chaotic editing in Armageddon, The Bourne Supremacy, Moulin Rouge, etc. this movie is 200x more extreme. But for me, I found Tony Scott's ADD direction to be pure art. It works so well that I think it will be an influential and defining benchmark to future films for future filmmakers. It's either love it or hate it.

Another great part of the movie was its hilarious comedic element (Christopher Walken is gold). It's not as dark as its subject matter suggests and it doesn't take itself seriously at all. Accentuated by the ADD direction, this contributes to an even more extraordinarily fun and entertaining time than most popcorn flicks.

I give it a solid A, though I won't recommend it to people who prefer conservative editing.

I wouldn't recommend it to people who like pacing. Domino's easily a half hour too long. I caught two people in the audience sleeping during the skybox shoot-out.

From my end:

High Tension (A-)

It can get pretty nasty at times. I love it.

MirrorMask

A bit too surreal for its own good. Well made, but largely empty. The plot was too thin and it ran about 20 minutes to late. Interesting visuals, but some of the CGI was poorly done.

Men in Black

Decent if mostly unspectacular. Dissapointing but entertaining for the most part.

I just finished watching High Tension for the first time since theaters and WOW! I have to admit I was slightly disappointed when I saw it in theaters and honestly didn't think I would end up raising my rating for it, but watching this on DVD was amazing! For one, there wasn't any awful and distracting dubbing to give the movie a goofy tone. I'm amazed how different the movie seemed without the bad dubbing. It really changed the whole tone. And another major plus was that this is one slick-looking DVD transfer. I don't remember it looking so gorgeous in theaters, not like this anyway. The only real downside is that I don't have surround sound, which made a difference in theaters. Scenes with music, like the one in the beginning in the car and then the whole part with her following the killer didn't have such an impact this time, not sound-wise anyway. I remember tapping my feet to the music before but no matter how much I turned the volume up now on my TV it just wasn't the same. I probably could have surround sound though, I just don't know how to hook my speakers up to the TV. Plus I'd need an entertainment center to put everything on because I have so much stuff now that I'd have no room for the speakers by my TV without one.

Anyway, with surround sound I can only imagine this movie being more amazing, because it relies heavily on sound and I can't see it not making a huge difference.

My rating for High Tension has gone up to a 9/10 (A-). I highly recommend people that saw it in theaters and didn't care for it, or that liked it but thought it could have been better, to check it out again on DVD. Even if you hated the twist I doubt you'll find it as annoying the second time around.

Oh, and the couple of times when subtitles pop up and nobody is saying anything didn't really bother me. It's a small price to pay for an otherwise delicious DVD!

Robots - D+

What an unfunny, unintelligent, poorly-written, loud, and just all around aweful movie. I'm sorry, but if the writer thinks funny is about having robots their body parts fallen off and seeing the parts fighting each other, or having their pants drop off a few times, or suddenly turn into a Britney Spears reference in the middle of the big fight, then I'll excuse myself from watching it. The 80 minutes feel like 2.5 hours. There were a few nice moments in the second half where it got more heart-warming, but that's about it.

Saw-C

Wayyyy overrated guys. Still fun at at parts, but it just felt rehashed and toned down for some reason. Like a lamed down rip-off of Se7en, with a much worse plot, writing, and acting. I actually could sit through the acting, even if it bad, if the rest of the movie held up like I thought it would. It didn't. The twist was OK, but not to make this one of the best of the year. I was disappointed guys.

I'll repeat one more time: A lamer copycat version of Se7en.

Definitly. I haven't seen Titanic for a while, but from what I remember it is pretty awesome.

Crash

This movie made me so fucking angry its not even funny and unfortunely thats the way it goes on this little friendly world we live in!

The story is in a way is very disturbing and painful to watch, some might be very offended by it, but thats reality.

The Thandie Newton and Matt Dillon accident scenes, was just wow!…I nearly shed a tear…oooOOh! When the little girl jumped on her dads arm and the Persian guy shots! I was just shocked and suddenly relived!
Haha! That final scene was great!
Anyways…
GREAT performances by every single actor, especially Sandra Bullock and Ludacris, Fantastic story, unbelievably well made!

Powerful and quite unique movie!

a solid A+, easily my favorite movie of the year

A History of Violence - A-

Really liked it too. I was suprised by the violence shown in this movie. It really made it more disturbing. Loved how Viggo was the hyper nice guy and the ex-criminal. Yeah Maria Bello was good but she cried too much for me. Ed Harris indeed looked creepy. Like everyone said the movie could have easily been 20 minutes longer.

Cinderella Man - B

This movie was a mixed bag for me. On the one side I hated Zellweeger and some of the dialogues, on the other side I loved Crowe and Giamattis performances as well as the box fights. Especially the fight against Max Baer was incredible.

Solid action flick. Awesome fight scenes, though.
