I liked Darkness made by the same director, so I should check out The Nameless as well.

I think The nameless is a much better film... you will probably also notice a pattern in themes and style. Wheter you like him or not, Balagueró clearly has his own vision and he puts it in every film of his.

Kypade, I have yet to watch it, but Like Water for Chocolate is sitting here on my desk. I'll be sure to watch it.

I just finished Sex and Lucia... wow.... I'm pressed for time, but besides being very explicit (not that it's a bad thing), it had some of the most breathtaking cinematography in recent memory. Fantastic work.

Actually, I had mixed feelings about Like Water for Chocolate. On the one hand, I was very impressed with the storyline, the style, and the wedding cake scene is hilarious. I also realize part of the tale had that timeless element to it of two people spanning decades, and that the focus is as much about the shifting socio-political scene around them as it is about the actual lovers. on the other hand, i was incredibly unethusied with their ongoing relationship, and why it was constantly denied. Especially *spoilers* with his earlier marriage.* Just seemed kind of typical, and also mean. I didn't like him as a personality as much as i did her either. And I liked her sister more than either of them. I do really love that her emotions are trasnferred into the cooking though, and how others than take it in and experience her pain and joy. *end spoilers*

The ending was, hmmm, random.

I remember Sex and Lucia mostly for the sex scenes and the cinematography, yeah... and I remember the storyline being a little bit too confusing at the time... so confusing that I can't remember it right now - I saw it a year ago... (I remember it had something to do with chat rooms and sadomasochistic acts at one point), lol.. but it's a very decent effort, indeed

Most certianly! I was impressed... did I mention the scene towards the begining of the flick when she's riding her bike on the island? There is a lighthouse that appears from over the horizon... the cinematography during that scene was breathtaking. I can't say I didn't enjoy the sex scenes, though they were still too conventional. There has to be a nonpornographic way of showing lovemaking. One that isn't cliche. I'm not holding my breath. But, that's beside the point. A solid effort.
