 Anyone have Tivo?
Does anyone have Tivo? For those that do I have a few questions because I'm looking into getting it and want to know what I'll be dealing with.
If you do, is it as good as advertised?
Is it easy to use?
Can you record two programs that are on at the same time as one another?
Is it possible to transfer programs from Tivo to a VCR tape or DVD-R?
Your help is greatly appreciated.

Tivo is the greatest thing ever made!!!!
1. It's definetly as good as it's advertised, if not much better.
2. It's very simple to use.
3. No, you can only record one thing at a time but you can watch something else if you have a Rf Splitter.
4. Yes. Some models come with a DVD RW so you can burn what you watch on DVD.
You really can't beat Tivo and it's only $50!!! Well, it's actually $200 but it comes with a $150 mail-in rebate.

So Tivo is still offering the $150 rebate? I'd better hurry and get it before they decide to stop that promotion.
Thanks for the information.

Not exactly TiVo, but close.
It's a reciever provided by Dish Network, but it records up to around 60 hours of shows, and it's niiiiice. It's not in my room, though.

We have the Dish Network one, too. The only downside to it, like Tivo, is that you can't watch one program while recording another.
We do have an antenna set up, though, so you can do it that way (but only if the other program you want to watch is on local channels).
I do lots of recording, as you could probably see from my viewing schedule.

You sure? I don't use the box at all, but my mom said she can watch one show while recording another...

I guess ours could be different...
But on ours, the only way you can watch one thing while recording is if you're watching a recorded show.

That might be what she was talking about, then.

Some more Tivo related queries...
1. On the official site ( http://www.tivo.com) it mentions that you can either pay $12.95/month or pay a one time fee of $299 for the lifetime of a unit. What's the better deal? Are the units reliable or does it actually make more sense to pay monthly because the units don't last?
2. It is also mentioned that there are three models available with available recording times of 40, 60, and 80$ respectively. Which one is the best choice? Also, it mentions something referred to as recording in "basic" quality as being the lowest quality there is. How does it compare to recording on a VHS tape which is what I currently do?
Thanks for your help
