I've seen the trailer for this twice now, and I got to say it looks very well done. With a great cast (Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Catherine Keener, Chris Cooper, etc) and a great trailer ( http://www.sonypictures.com/classics/sy ... rl_300.mov ) I'm very interested to see how this one goes. It also seems Hoffman might me considered for an oscar nod, I think he's a good actor that just never really got a lead role, now he gets to show what he's really made of, so if reviews like this keep coming I can see him getting an oscar nod. It looks very interesting and seems to be a good movie, i'll check it out when it comes out.

Yeah, if the film wasn't as small as it is, I'd definately be thinking that Hoffman has a shot at a Best Actor nod. Then again, Hotel Rwanda and Lost in Translation both got them, so who knows, maybe they'll finally be willing to honor PSH in some way. He's really quite overdue.

Haven't watched the trailer, but I am really interested in the film. I don't know a whole lot about him, but we studied him a little last year before reading In Cold Blood.

I'm interested to see the whole Harper Lee thing, too.

It opens in NY and LA September 30th, and will slowly expand from there.

It sounds like it could be very good. Philip Seymour Hoffman and Catherine Keener are two of our best actors.

I'm looking forward to it. Consistently I find myself impressed with PSH.

I keep seeing the poster at my independent theatres and I'm so drawn to it for some reason.

I have to admit I don't really know much of anything about him, but Philip Seymour Hoffman has been creating industry buzz and cred for a few years now; he just hasn't borken out into the mainstream in a big way.

I think, for being such an unpredictable year for the best actor category, Hoffman can create alot of indie buzz and be an underdog contender for a nod!

And, yes, I do want to see the film!

Saw the trailer in front of Junebug.

I wasn't aware that the film revolved around the Perry/Dick In Cold Blood thing.

Now I'm super interested.

I've not seen the trailer or heard of the film. I will say Hoffman is a mixed bag for me though. Honestly, I've not been a big fan of his "crossover" films thus far. State and Main made me cry, as did Ripley, and Cold Mountain was only so-so. I know he played minor roles in the latter two, but I have small problems with his film selection. Not his editting, just the movies he (or his casting agent) chooses. He's a good actor, but he needs something that uses his nuerotic edge properly.

Capote, I'm assuming, is semi biolgraphy? What else is it about? How did the trailer play out?

It's a bit creepy. Definately PSH-ish. He fits perfectly.

Ad is in the paper. Everyone in my class was very excited, and say they think Hoffman is a perfect fit. Interesting to me, because I know nothing about Capote. One book pretty much, and not a glimpse of what he looked like or acted in his personal life.

The Dallas Morning News commented on the Toronto Film Festival, saying Hoffman's performance is a slam dunk and surefire nominee.

Hmmm.

Expands this weekend, so I hope some of you get to see it.

What interested me most about it, was just the incredible way in which the author is known to have struggled to complete the book. He needed an ending, the ending wouldn't come, but when it did, it was a painful one that Capote had misgivings about secretly desiring the entire five years he wrote the book. Really, a very nice style and feel to the film, but nothing was that "hidden." Hoffman says all his desires out loud. Its just that the desires are so shocking, and pendelum swings so often and extremely from one end to the other that it makes for a rough experience.

I couldn't help but think of Dead Man Walking when I saw Capote, and its interesting to keep in mind where Sarandon and Hoffman diverge in portraying their characters. One is selfless, the other quite selfish. It was interesting....

I'm planning to finally catch this today. The trailer is very well-done.

Hmm, I have mixed feeling about the movie. It got me interested in knowing more Truman Capote, as I, being not very familiar with American literature, have never heard of him before or read In Cold Blood. I didn't know what kind of accent/voice or personality he had, but what Huffman portrayed was indeed excellent. I could imagine people who know about Capote would be even more stunned to see how well Huffman became Capote. However, maybe because of tiredness, I failed to connect with the story on an emotional level. Something was missing to glue me to the screen. Right now I gave it a B-, but I will try to catch it again sometime later after reading more about the background.

Interesting movie and yes, very selfless - which I had a great dislike for those scenes in the movie, but you understand the type of person that he was and how he was affected by it all.

One additional thing on Capote was that he had a major writing career including Breakfast at Tiffany's among other writings. He even had the title of America's greatest writer but was that title self or closely given. And how his In Cold Blood was a new idea, new-fiction novels about current events.

but mainly how In Cold Blood was the last major piece that he ever wrote / completed over the next 20 years of his life which involved a drinking problem and an early death in his 60's.

Seems that his In Cold Blood had many other meanings in his life and changed his life forever.
