Fornication - sexual intercourse between two persons not married to each other. (websters)

I realize that opens a whole debate about the rights of gays to marry.

But if Jesus came to fulfill the Jewish law, even if he was only concerned about the spirit of the law and not the letter, the Jewish law had a lot to say about homosexuality and it wasn't good.

Look, I don't want to condemn anyone who is a homosexual. It's really none of my business. However, I do think if you look at the entirety of what Jesus taught, compared to what the OT and Paul teaches, it seems clear to me Jesus did not endorse homosexuality.

And that's all I'm going to say about this subject.

There were also laws that prohibited men from getting their hair cut on sundays, men from being aorund woman during their menstral uncelanliness, and children being stoned fro cursing their parents

IM a christian(a very open minded on at that) but i think the biuble is taken out of context so much its ridiculous. People pick and choose what they want to use, to twhatever suites them best.

To get this thread back on topic...

I lost mine when I was 16. It was in a camping trip, or rather, a "summer house" trip. A group of people (aged 16-20) at my college rented a house in the country to get drunk in and have fun. When it had become dark I was quite drunk and I decided to go into one of the three hot tubs that were just outside the house. There was this beautiful girl there that I had never seen before and we started talking. One thing lead to another and we ended up sharing a room through the night.

And guess what, we're still friends today. :)

It's true that people pick and choose what suits them best out of the Bible. I think that's obvious from this thread. You do have to remember much of the Jewish law also had to do with hygiene and Jewish ceremony.

Rox, as an open-minded Christian, I recommend that you read and study the Bible for yourself. Don't take my word for it, but read it yourself. Don't just read select passages, but compare and study ALL of it. A lot of well-meaning people quote scripture out of context. Read the gospels if you haven't before (Matthew, Mark. Luke, and John) so you'll know what Jesus said. I would also recommend Romans and I John.

Yet you seem surprised by what the Bible does and doesn't say? Is that only for the purpose of debate?

Who's to say? Religion is a personal matter, and no one should dictate morality... just as no one should attempt to intrepret sacred writings without knowing the language, which is why the NT is so widely misunderstood.

And who's to say what marriage is? It could be a civil union... or it could be something as simple as an (ahem) oral agreement between two consentng adults. You may find yourself on an uncharted desert island... with a beautiful woman, and you may ask yourself, "How did I get here?" And you'll just have to sort out the rest for yourself.

And who's to say what virginity is? That's why I raised the subject of the "virgin" Mary. It depends on the language and the culture. In some societies, marriages are arranged - but that doesn't stop men and women from having other liasons before marriage, and no one seems to worry too much about it.

When a man "gives it up" to another man (whatever), how could it rightly be said that he's lost his virginity? And oral sex is another matter altogether, which is why men like Clinton don't think of it as sexual relations. Most of us agree that a woman or a man who engages in oral copulation hasn't "lost" virginity.

I'd have to say, in the classic sense of the word, "virginity" pertains to women... and the law used to be very specific about this, of course.

wertham rocks....easily one of my favourites! :D

As for Ripper's question about still getting on with your ex partner! I still talk to mine from time to time! She got married though and moved up to Auckland (on the North Island) with her husband! We speak once in a while, she'll ring me up out of the blue to say howzitgoin'!
