Post Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World
I was really looking forward to this movie and now i read this article. I can understand Sony's problem here though. Considering most people we know don't actually ever look at what the subject matter is and look at whats visible on the surface, the title to this film could create the discomfort that Sony might be worried about. Nevertheless, heres what cnn had to report today.

Hey bABA! I finally saw the trailer for it. I don't know how I feel.

At first I thought the premesis was funny. "OUr President makes people laugh, and that's why they like him. Go find what makes "Muslims" laugh."

But then when Brooks begins his travels, the trailer (at least) goes downhill. I got confused with the Taj Mahal as well.

Well, I like how Brooks plays himself, and I've actually really liked some of his comedies and dramaedies in the past.

I haven't quite put my finger on this one, yet, however. Have you heard anything else yet?

It doesn't have any reviews in yet at RT, etc.

RT has 4 reviews. 2 didn't like it. 2 felt it was in the Bish range.

Taj Mahal? Whats so odd about it?

i'm having my doubts about this film too, even though the premise intrigues me. I'm gonna wait a bit and see what people have to say about it. what was the trailer attached to? i still can't seem to find one.

Mostly because I thought the Taj was a mausoleum and palace...primarily unoccupied. Trailer was attached to Match Point.

The trailer has been attached to every film I saw recently at my local indie theater: Brokeback Mountain, Pulse and some others.

when i first saw this thread, i thought it was a thread by dolce about muslim comedies (like she was literally looking/examining comedy in the muslim world) and a few days later i saw a trailer/poster/article/dvd about some muslim comedy or something that was supposed to be really good, and i was gonna mention it in this thread, but then i lost the link or whatever and finally clicked the thread and it turns out it was made by baba and that is the name of the film. (coincidentally, i happened to see the poster for it today also.)

its the final resting place of Noor Jehan. Its just famous as a historical building that was part of the Mughal Empire (Muslim). I guess thats the reason. It has Islamic Architecture.

They could have used something else though.

Mother is 36 on my Top 117 films of all time.

Brooks is a comedy god. I'm looking forward to the film.

Believe it or not, different Brooks.

James L Brooks

Albert Brooks

Though the two did cross during the hilarious Simpsons episode where Homer worked for Scorpio.

Ahhh, this one is an Albert Brooks film? Hmmm, I was all the time under the impression it was James L. Brooks' film and was wondering why it was getting so little exposure considering the director...thanks for clearing up.

His last effort was The Muse which I actually consider a pretty decent flick.

So get ready. I think the Taj throws me off because regardless of it's symbolic aspects, it means Brooks is trekking through Hindu areas? Don't know. They should have gone with some cityscape of Turkey, maybe?

First five reviews are in over at RT: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/looking ... lim_world/

the description of the movie says that brooks is sent to the sub continent to spend half his time in pakistan and half his time in india as both together constitute the biggest muslim community (over 300 mil). India's muslim pop is probably close to Pakistans, the largest in the world.

I just don't know. It looks like it could be good, but somehow I just think it isn't going to pan out in the end. It opens here in Atlanta this weekend so I'lll be checking it out for sure.
