Us Alias fans have kind of given up complaining about ratings, timeslots and the way that networks handle it - we just kind of accept it and its when we get lazy that the network springs a cancellation on us - so im trying my best to keep show awareness up without annoying the shit out of everyone with it.

I finally saw a promo tonight. It looks great. They really should ahve advertised the shit out of this. ABC is really losing out... if Commander in Chief truly delivers in ratings (and also gives a boost to Boston Legal) then ABC will be on a complete comeback high and they should have started strengthening their weakest night; Thursdays at least with MINIMAL ads!

Smallville, Survivor, Joey, and The O.C. are wayyyyyyy down in the ratings with only Survivor still performing well. Everybody Hates Chris is a big hit, but...it's UPN.
Not saying I'm expecting huge ratings this season but at least the competition is turning out to be less than was expected, and a lot better than going up against American Idol.
at least the season looks promising..

I agree; though the combined wallop of the shows are pretty huge - and theres more direct competition to Alias with THe O.C & Smallville; but interest in those shows appears to be fizzling. Has smallville started yet?
I really, really want Alias to drop this whole "lets involve new viewers" angle. The shows producers should have realised that it may alienate and frustrate older viewers; and thats not what you want with a cult show.. But it looks like theres so much going on in season 5 that its kind of GOT to flow over from every episode; i doubt strongly that they can keep season 5 episode contingient.

Survivor is actually a tad down from last season... I think it's finally starting to (although very slowly) wear out. LAst year was its peak in my opinion.
Yes, each show Alias is going up against is losing steam, but the collective competition is still pretty strong.
On the bright side, we have to all remember that Alias was doing its best ratings after LOST in season 4, but that was with American Idol competition... Imagine if American Idol wasn't playing against it. So hopefully, we're underestimating Alias' audience (even though when Lost was repeat, Alias sunk to some season and once, I think, a series low).
I just hope it doesn't drop so much that Everybody Hates Chris surpasses it!

To be honest, Chris and Alias should be able to do well together. Because both are similar shows. I see Chris destroying Joey, Will & Grace. Imagine that, UPN can finally beat NBC the night NBC once owned. As i said before ABC can afford to have shows like Alias and Nightstalker, because they are very much fan orientated. And if 'The Ghost Whisperer' ratings were that good for such a bad show (then again every show on CBS sucks), then Nightstalker should stand a chance between getting 8million viewers. Hopefully the show improves and builds enough audience for the show to survive on DVD sales like Arrested Development is.
Alias will knock a further chunk out of the O.C. (which amazingly ratings were up 30% this year in Australia) and Smallville should survive like Charmed is. However, their audience would and should put Alias first.

Survivor is a good few million viewers down, raffi. The O.C is about 1-2 Million off; and Joey...well thats just a lost cause.
Alias always seems to sell a lot of dvds, globally even in terrories like the UK where its no big hit - it sells reasonably well.

Plus Alias goes into syndication this week as well. There's a chance a fewwwww new viewers who discover the show in syndication tune in to ABC for season 5.
But despite everything I don't wanna get my hopes up cause ...it's still a crappy time slot. It's been ages since ABC has had anything big on Thursdays at 8 PM.

Zack actually pmed me to say he caught the first epsiode of season 4 tonight and loves it; hes trying to rent out the other seasons and will be watching the rest on syndicated nets.
So your theory seems to be correct, Roddy Baby.
I think an 8.5 Million start would be okay. And likely.
Gulp.

I hate to say it, but I would be thrilled with an 8.5 million season 5 opener!

To Buffy/Angel fans, Amy Acker (who played Fred on Angel) has a 3 episode stint early this season. So be watching or else! Who cares if James Marsters is on the other channel. TiVo it!

It starts this Thursday? I'll watch.
I'm going to Costco today and they might have a deal on earlier seasons, so I might pick one or two up! I'm trying to see if anyone around here rents them, but no luck.
I'm pretty sure it's on every night, so it won't take me long to catch up to season 5

Its all about the backstory though. The season 4 cliffhanger isnt as good until youve seen all the other seasons!
Im going to miss alias, it wont start here till like april again.

Downloading isn't pratical. I'll just have incredible levels of discipline and try in vain to stay spoiler free.

I would never have that patience with Lost, especially considering how important it is to avoid spoilers on that show. I am trying to watch every episode not later than a day after it airs in the States.
