Reindeer Games is horrid.

I can't even believe it's from the mastermind behind The Ring and Arlington Road.

Arlington Road was a truly brilliant psychological thriller with a great twist preceding by some of the best drama/paranoia thriller material I've ever seen. It remains one of my all time favorite films.

The Skeleton Key was pretty average. I liked Hudson's performance and the ending (which, by far, wasn't as shocking as I expected). B-

I was actually somewhat disappointed to be honest after all the raving reviews here and elsewehere as well as all the mentionings of the shocking twist. I managed to avoid all spoilers on the movie thankfully and went into the movie with good expectations. The movie was a decent supernatural thriller with a good performance by Kate Hudson and an even better performance by Gena Rowlands, but the twist wasn't nearly as shocking as expected and the movie wasn't scary whatsoever.

I saw the twist coming about 40 minutes before the end, actually pretty much as soon as the effect of the invented spell was explained. I thought that was pretty obvious. Moreover, the movie, while suspenseful couldn't even nearly scare me at any moment, even though there were attempts at scary scenes in the film.

What I did like about the flick was its atmosphere. The whole southern feeling was captured well. The whole Voodoo/swamps/Louisianna atmosphere was there and pretty well-managed. The movie was also suspenseful and actually kept me really interested throughout, even though I saw an unhappy ending coming way before it. The mystery was well-developed and unfolded subsequentially, though. It's a good movie, but I have seen better horror movies and supernatural thrillers this year. Whoever wants to see a really really great Southern Voodoo flick with an amazing ending, watch Angel Heart.

The ending was predictible and unshocking. I did like the beginning and the end though, everything else is boring and stupid. I'll buy it though just to hear "Caroline, I think you broke my legs!" again ;)

6/10 (B-)

Well, as some may know, I'm not a huge fan of the horror genre, but I must say The Skeleton Key freakin' creeped me out with it's story's incessant logic.

With great acting in the supporting roles (John Hurt (!) & Gena Rowlands (!)) and (the solid, plus peripherally hot in this role) Kate Hudson leading the way, not to mention Peter Sarsgaard - keep an eye on this guy after 2005 - No, I mean it!

All that, and I haven't even mentioned the great horror cinematography, especially the skeleton "key" and keyhole views.

This is a very well made movie - ya just know that Kurt & Goldie have had a good look at the script, and given Kate the benefit of their many combined long years in show business. This is a quality production from top to bottom. What a great horror show/story! Loved it.

5 out of 5.

Heh, I didn't think I'd have one of the lowest ratings on here. I really liked the film. The ending was fantastic, they did a better job on that than any other horror since The Ring 2. Kate Hudson did a great job, and wow she is so fricken hot in this movie. Some parts of the movie were terribly slow, which lowers the grade a little. Still, that ending is fantastic, which makes it worth while in this case.

Great movie. Creepy. Twisty. Well-acted. The more I think about it the more I like it. Kate Hudson is good in her part, as are all the actors. The movies is not scary but very spooky. The ending, while not shocking, is incredibly creepy and unsettling. B+/A-

Hm. This is particularly hard to grade, because I had the twist of the movie spoiled for me. That is very unfrotunate, because what I saw leading up to the twist was a very sturdy foundation to lay the twist on, enhanced by wonderful acting on all accounts and great visuals. I'd recommend it wholeheartedly, but I can't grade it because this is the type of film that relies on the twist ending as the audience pleaser.

this was a complete stinker, lazily directed, with a mildly satisfying twist ending. i'd give it a D.

Agreed, real trash and the it was right in the middle of the "twist" faze and this one seemed even lazier, and laughably bad at times.

A film made in an era where everyone wanted to be M Night without realizing there was more to his hits than just the twist ending. This movie is cruel and pointless, but I’ll admit the finale is entertaining so they got that part right at least. C-

I can’t believe the early reviews on this site. Shows how bad horror was back then that this got such a pass. Then you watch A film like Get Out that takes the same beats but executes them to superb levels. I’m not even a big fan of get out, but you can just see the differences in almost every aspect.

I caught this last night after reading the early reviews for this movie and ended up being disappointed in the movie. Its not bad but I expected more. The movie maintains a good pace and is a decent thriller but lacks any horror elements and it nails down the finale act and the performances are great here.
