 Flash Tags
Any chance of flash tags being installed? I mean I don't think anyone would use the irresponsibly - because the people who currently use signatures irresponsibly probobly dont know how to do it.

No, I dont think they should be allowd because it would take even more time to load now!

Eh, yeah it would be nice but flash can be so hard to load and it changes so much and compatibility...I wouldn't go there personally.

You know what? People were fine with downloading 3.6MB WORTH OF AVATAR AND SIGNATURES from NeoWolf just because he thought having animations in his avatars would be a cool idea.
If any of you didnt already know - in most countries theres now heavy bandwidth restritctions being placed on most broadband accounts. Even loading this kind of thing once mounts up.
SPIDERMAN's mean girls/Lindsay Lohan/Irritating signature right now? its 919KB. So thats JUST UNDER A MEGABYTE for something i DONT WANT TO SEE.
3.6MB is no small amount to load when you count that everyone else is having
My animated signature is 313kb which is WAY too big as it is.. If i wanted it to display properly; then thats 1.1MB.
With flash, its 25kb.

while i'm not for it at the moment, show me examples of where this is being used so i can better understand what we might be dealing with.

What is there to provide examples for? The thing is self explanitory.
As far as im concerned there should be an ultamatum of moderating out large [FILESIZED] images in sigs and avatars or introducing the Flash tags.
From PHPBB's own site
"If you want to allow your users to make use of HTML in posts you need to do two things. Firstly enable HTML in Admin -> General -> Configuration. Secondly to need to make sure that the tags your users will post are in the Allowed HTML Tags field (again Admin -> General -> Configuration). If users post using tags not on this list they won't be displayed as HTML! eg. to enable someone to post Flash you could add the embed tag to this field. Be careful which tags you allow, it is very easy to break the boards own output if the wrong tags are used in posts.
"
http://phpbbstuff.ddblog.org/
you can get the flash tags mod from there.
Ive done all the hard work for you!

most web designers do. Flash only meets a specific type of niche or requirement ... late 90s and beginning of 2000s, it became a fad, a fad that i'm glad is slowly dying.

Meh, I'd feel the same toward both gifs, and flash animations.
But if indeed flash ones will be that smaller in size, I'm definately for it.

What the hell; the only reason Flash isnt in signatures across America right now is because
a) Lazy admins dont like installing mods
b) Most people cant create flash animations.
There is NO differernce from a flash animation and a gif animation. Apart from the fact that flash is smoother, allows more quality and is FAR far smaller.

if you think thats the only reason michael, you know little of Flash ...
but i'm waiting for my computer. once i get it, i'll see if its possible for me to install it. after that, if i can, we'll give it a trial run. if its turns out to be as annoying as it is normally, i'll get rid of it. if not, it can stay.

I know exactly what flash is capibile of; but do you honestly think people are going to exploit flash in its giant websitey form for their signatures?
I really don't understand how you find flash annoying.

when i said 'you dont understand flash', i never meant technically. i meant if those 2 are your only reason, then you have another thing coming. There is a general dislike for Flash amongst developers. While designers love it because it simplifies their life, almost all developers out there hate it. Flash 'should' aim at only specific markets .... its not just me who finds the thing annoying ... and you telling me that you dont understand why i feel this way pretty much rests my case that you're not aware of why people discourage flash to begin with.

michael ... honestly, cut the sarcasm ... if you dont want to hear comments back, don't make absolute statements like the ones you did when stating why people dont do one thing or another ... people will retort back and whether they're right or wrong doesn't matter .. you have to be prepared for people to say something back. we all pass statements here but most of the time, we defend them or admit defeat, not get into a "Oh look, i'm so stupid" type of immature statements.

and you've mentioned this 'behind the bush' thing a few times and i'm still clueless on what you mean by that ... i've been very open over the various discussions that have taken place over here how i feel about everyone here and if something actually bothers me or not or whatever ... i also have an entire thread up on this. so whatever this beating about the bush is, its something thats happening on your end and you can either come out and say it or stop mentioning it again and again if you never want to come out with it.

I think its pretty obvious to everyone your feelings towards me from your conduct; I always feel like whatever i say to you is going to be either dismissed or used against me. And thats not good.
