 Morgan Spurlock is back with...
Quote: Get ready for Class Act, an investigation into the rapidly disintegrating arts education program in American schools.
The story is here.
Sounds interesting. It'll be interesting to see if there's any gimmick this time around.

So, is he the "new" Michael Moore then? I could see this film doing quite well, similar to "Super Size Me", if it has a semi-decent advertising campaign.

And probably more true to the facts eh? You know, I like Michael Moore's films. Most of them anyway. He's entertaining but he certainly does stretch the truth more then just a little.

I do too, but does come off as egotistical and fact-stretching at times. I have yet to really see that from Spurlock.
It'll be interesting to see how it does commercially, because SSM should probaqbly thank alot of it's success to thew 30-day diet gimmick, which got alot of people interested in it.

Nah. Because his choice of topics are never clear cut or politically onedimensional. He may be upset about arts education, he may have a thing or two to say about funding and emphasis on the arts, but that's not the same as instant activism. I never saw Super Size Me, but after reading that article, I am actually quite eager to see this. Its something I too care about very deeply.

You should see SSM Dolce. I don't know whether or not you'd enjoy it (Your tastes are too diverse! ), but it's a well-made doc that never interferes with the facts. I really looking forward to this.

You know what Jon. It just sounded a bit much like Fast Food Nation, which I stopped reading half way through. I remember being kind of psyched and repulsed by the idea, and wanting to go opening weekend, then the desire just faded. Not out of any offensive arguements, etc, just that I feel like I've heard the story a million times.
I already watched those two college kids make a deal with Sparks.com that they'd each put on thirty pounds in one month (if they did, they'de win something). So you kinda watched these two kids eat nabisco cookies and fat food 24/7. The guy reached the limit, the girl didn't. Too bad, because now she's 26 pounds heavier and didn't even win the prize.
Anyways, there it was a sort of joke, but it had the same undertone, snarkness, about fast food consumption. That coupled with the book, and I was just fast food-ed out.
But I can't wait for this new doc. I'm an art librarian for cryin' out loud!

Will be interesting to see how he combines his Super Size Me/30 Days entertainment value with a subject like this.
Great subject, nonetheless. I loves me arts, and it irks me when we have to paint with Q-Tips in art class.

I completely disagree, it was poorly made and like a Michael Moore film the "facts" are always a little fuzzy.
Not that I'm a defender of McDonalds or anything but...

dolce@ It's all art... I intended(sic) SSM and Thirty Days as 'cinema verte magnified', to coin a phrase... the arts film has potential( profound observation, cultural decline), if it can make it's point...
