Quote:
Fahrenheit 9/11 is a 2004 documentary film by American filmmaker and political commentator Michael Moore. The film takes a critical look at the presidency of George W. Bush, the War on Terror, and its coverage in the news media. The film holds the record for highest box office receipts by a general release political film. It is the highest grossing documentary of all time domestically.

In the film, Moore contends that American corporate media were "cheerleaders" for the 2003 invasion of Iraq and did not provide an accurate or objective analysis of the rationale for the war or the resulting casualties there. The film's attack on the Bush administration generated some controversy at the time of the film's release, including some disputes over its accuracy. Moore has responded by documenting his sources.

The film debuted at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival in the documentary film category and received a 20 minute standing ovation, among the longest standing ovations in the festival's history. The film was also awarded the Palme d'Or (Golden Palm), the festival's highest award.

The film had a general release in the United States and Canada on June 23, 2004. It has since been released in 42 more countries. By January 2005, the film had grossed nearly $120 million in U.S. box office and over $220 million worldwide, an unprecedented amount for a political film. Sony reported first-day DVD sales of two million copies, again a new record for the genre.

The title of the film alludes to Ray Bradbury's 1953 novel Fahrenheit 451, a dystopian view of the future United States, analogizing the autoignition temperature of paper with the date of the September 11 attacks; the film's tagline is "The Temperature at Which Freedom Burns."

Whether you like the fat man behind the camera and the things he preaches or not, I think most (at least the non-biased ones) would agree that the film is excellent. I haven't seen many documentaries (actually, only, like, two or three), but this one is, by far, my favorite one.

I actually hated this film, it bored me a third into.

D-

The only reason I won't give it a F is because it was a very risky film to make.

It's full of a lot of bullshit that the sheep are all too willing to take as 100% gospel, but it's presented in such an entertaining way that it's enjoyable to watch from start to finish. (before I get lynched for saying that, I'm a registered Democrat, I just like using my own head, not rolling over when somebody with an agenda tells me to)

NOW YOU CAN LYNCH ME! :hahaha:

Didn't love it (like Bowling for Columbine), but I did think it was a very interesting watch.

I actually found it to be poignant more than comcial.

But what I will say is that it was terribly evident Michael Moore was out for blood with this movie and not much else. His comments towards Saudis at times bordered from ludicrous into plain racist. The element of the film that worked the best was showing how a womans views on the United States desicions on Iraq were changed so drastically when her son died in Iraq.

It also gave an interesting theory as to the whole Iraqi driving force - far fetched, but definately interesting. But is it really so far fetched when we consider that George Bush's father?

That obnoxious bitch in Washington [the one who called the woman a "sham"] pretty much reminds me of exactly whats wrong with urban society as well. Idiots high on their own self importance but low on actual substance and humanity.

I recently rewatched this and my grade has risen dramatically. This is a very well-made movie and one of the best documentaries I've ever seen. I would say it's not quite as good as Bowling For Columbine, but it's almost right up there.

Bleh. Moore populist brand of Documentary making has worked to great effect with Roger and Me and Bowling for Columbine but this is a mawkish mess.

He lets his hatred of Bush stop him from making a decent film. Its not like Bush is a hard target but Moore resorts to rumour childish set-ups and various other tricks that wouldn't be seen dead in a decent documentary

While I agreed with Moore's politics, I thought the Documentary was uneven. When it began as an attack on Bush and his policies, it turned into a "war is bad" documentary about 60% of the way through. Well, yeah, we know war is bad. All war is bad. The reason to fault Bush is not because war is bad, but because this war was unecessary and done for political gain only -- the fact that many soldiers are dying in it is bad as well, but that's not why the war is bad...

Anyway, I started looking at the clock around this time, and that's not good for any movie.
