Very Good movie. I have a review up on it on my page. Also, my parents really liked it. I didn't see the extras, but they did, and said there was alot of info about the research that went into the movie to make it accurate, etc.

If I remember correctly, we both thought it was pretty boring. A two hour MTV video. With about as much plot. And not all that strong conceptually. Kinda "Sliding Doors"-ish.



Keislowski is a God. You'll like him. Like Egoyan, alot of his work (except, imo, the post-mortem released Decalogue) is excellent. Since White and Blue are up there, throw on red, and also, my personal favorite, The Double Life of Veronique.

BTW, if you like him, you should watch Decalogue vignettes though, because I think I'm the only person who found them pedantic. Everyone else speaks of them being on the same quality as the Three Colors.

Alright. I'll request the bonus disk for Maria and tack on Red. That makes for an interest night. All of the Colors.

So, no plot to Run Lola Run? Yea, that's what Artur said... I still want to give it a shot, but I won't go in with high expectations. I can, however, aprpeciate a movie if it has strong imagery or sound... so, maybe I will like this because of the soundtrack? We'll see.

Run Lola Run is great because it is relentless. Both came out the same year so Sliding Doors isn't really a reference.

It is kind of MTVish, but personally I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. It's not profound... it's like an action movie.

Why do you say ''post-mortem released"? l assume you mean it as it sounds (released after his death), but wasn't the Decalogue a tv mini-series or something, in the late eighties (early nineties?)? Or was it only released on dvd/theaters later?


Anyway, like most, l've found his Colors trilogy to be amazing...so far. l still need to see Red. (which l'll get to as soon as l renetflix myself). And of course, The Double Life of Veronique.

Dekalog was 1989-1990. I don't think it was ever really stateside in the US, but I wouldn't call it posthumus release, it was released for many to see before Bleu, Blanc, Rouge were.

He died like 2 years after Rouge.

Huh. I thought he had purposefully not released them in the States because he hadn't been satisfied with them (Kinda like Fellini's Casanova)? And yes, post-humous....that's the word I was looking for. Thank-you.

So, l'm pretty sure l didn't understand Red, unless it was completely straightforward and there was nothing to miss...and even then, l think l missed something...

l'm gonna go read some stuff on it, but in the meantime, if you want to, dolce (or anyone else) you can go ahead and lemme know what to make of it.

nevermind. lve cleared up many of my ''misses''...probably just because of careless viewing...(messin with my fone for the first 12 minutes or so)

Anyway, l still dont think l'd rate it as highly as either of the others...Blue is still my favorite, White second, and Red (very close to White) third...l plan to watch it again with the commentary on, though, because l switched it on for a second and the lady sounded so incredibly strange...l dunno. not strange...almost like an NPR news person. what she was saying was rather interesting, too.

As for me, I really haven't seen enough. My video store doesn't carry many foreign films away from the really well known ones like Crouching Tiger and Life is Beautiful, so for most of life I haven't had much access. Which might've been a good thing because I don't think I would've been able to appreciate some of these films when I was like, 13. Even 8 1/2 I ripped apart when I saw it a year and a half ago, but I have a feeling that if I rented it now, I'd be much more fond. But I have my internet que now so I'm slowly catching up, then I'll really go crazy when I move to the city.

As of now my favorites are probably City of God and Breathless.

There has long been a dispute about this being foreign or not. After a while, fellow KJ'ers convinced me of the former, heh.

Oh yeah, Life is Beautiful is on my list too.

Hmmm, my list was/is very Italian heavy. Its certainly changed a litte bit, but its still hard for me to whittle it down too much further. In recent years I'd of course add Moolaade and Talk to Her and Bad Education. I also have a desire to rewatch Tropical Malady as the final scene has been churning through my mind lately as being one of the more powerful scenes I've seen dedicated to film. I need to see if its just a memory of the movie, though, and if upon a rewatch it would actually hold up or become better. There are a lot of others, too.

Nope, it's last year's Russian Best Foreign Picture nominee, a Russian remake of 12 Angry Men, though put into some heavy political and cultural context.
