It was a great idea to try to jumpstart the form, but I guess it really never took flight and a few of the people no longer even post here. I suppose they got busy withing their own lives anbd whatnot. What a shame because it would have been nice to see it come to fruition.

Kypade! It was a two week event that kicked off the forum. I'm totally game for doing it anually. Should be coming up in early october if people want to give it another go. I'd love to host a country again. If you want to look back on the old threads, they've been archived in the thread archive of this forum. Let me know what you think. Any changes to programme, new ideas, interests. It could be fun to try it again.

Yay Yoshue!

here's what we did. anyone who wanted to "host" a country started a thread for it listing all the movies they'd seen in that language (or genre, since we had italian horror and asian horor as seperate genres). Any memeber that wanted to watch something from that country would sign up. mostly so the host could chat with them about the country, make recommendations, etc. Memebers are also allowed to recommend something for the host. basically everyone tries to watch movies from the countries they wanted, and then discuss them in the threads the hosts of that country started. Its the hosts responsibility to watch the thread and stimulate discussion about movies that the members watch during those two weeks.

That's how we past did it, but I'm welcome for new suggestions. As I said, check out the threads of the countries in the archive for this forum to see how they ran. We only had about ten people, but I'd love to get 20 or more and really cover alot of countries.

Interested?

VERY interested, Dolce. Very. Let's get this going!

[In the interest of complete honesty, the author of this post wishes to state that he doesn't COMPLETELY grasp the concept, but he hopes that a visit to the archive will fix that, and in the meantime is very interested in the idea. Thank you for your time.]

The more I read through this section of the board, the more I want to do this. And do it well.

I'll go on a viewing spree the next few weeks to add to what I've seen and host France. Let's really work on getting this thing started!

YAY!

I'll host Italy again! (D'uh) Or I might do a "miscellaneous" one and try to cover all the countries that don't get much collecting here (Hungary, Poland, Israel. Iran, etc). Dunno, I'll have to think about it. This time Yoshue, i think it'll do much better. We didn't have a mainsite before, so now we'll have a flyer and link to it there and hopefully random internet people looking for foriegn film language discussion will come here. We started this forum both as a niche for that (most other sites don't have it) and because those bloody conniving mods and admin lured me here with it.

I tried to go the festival in the first two weeks these forums were open in order to kick start the foreign/indie section, but we had limited numbers then. A couple people I bugged helped out by hosting (we have a surprisingly knowledgeable member group here) but we didn't have many viewers for each country. I'd love to have the country hosts be able to discuss with at least 5 or more viewers per country (and not the same five running around like last time, heh).

Let me know if you have any ideas for changing how its run, or how to get the word out. We'll open it up in about a month. October 1st sound good?

Oh yes!!! I was super busy last time we did this, but I would *LOVE* to do it this time around!!! Since I'm fairly busy and I'm sure Ross is too, maybe we could cohost a Latin American country? We both looooove anything with G.G.Bernal

I'll get in touch with this, let's do it!!

w00t! Contact him Maximus and let us know. Rod might help out too. I agree with you about sharing hosting for a country if need be.

Here's my logic. The host, will probably want to check out some other countries and genres than (s)he's familiar with. So it wouldn't be fair to have him completely slave over his own country and not be given a little time to actually see stuff he hasn't seen from elsewhere. I picked to host Italian cinema because I can talk about over 50 movies without even having to rewatch all of them. I've seen most of them more than once anyways, so know them well. I can hold up discussions with people watching those movies at their time and viewing. That way, if I want to watch an asian horor flick or something, to partake in another hosts thread, I'll be able to.

So everyone pick a country you're familiar with, or can divy up with friends so that it would be fairly easy to talk to participants about the movies and country's style, etc.

People are welcome to try a country they know less about, but would probably have to watch a ton of movies (and take recommendations) from members that could be time consuming or not allow them to check out other threads too.

Uh, is that clear? Anything else you guys can suggest that you think might spice up the festival. Around late Sept, start bugging everyone you know here or at other sites that you think would really help The Second Annual KJ Foreign Film Festival take off!

I'm getting so excited!

I'm glad we're definitely moving ahead here!

I think I finally fully understand how this is gonna work.

Dolce, I don't have any suggestion on improving this thing yet, but damnit I'll be thinking about it.

We gotta get as many members of the forum as possible in on this. It'll be a great way to introduce people to great films they may have otherwise avoided.

Sounds like we're back in business. One month. I say we kick it off Oct 1st and brainstorm for the next few weeks, so that in mid-Sept we can do linking fliers, main site announcement, and start lining up people to host countries.

Until then, everyone brainstorm and let me know of other ideas you have! This is really flexible execution, since the first one, while well intentioned, doesn't set much precedence in what ways this could have broader reach but still keep up strong discussions, build community, get people really interested, etc.

Kypade. I could hug you for bringing this back up again! I'd been entertaining the idea of a second go, but didn't think anyone would be interested. You certainly jump started this.
