 Evolution
Evolution Quote: Evolution is a 2001 American science fiction comedy film directed by Ivan Reitman and starring David Duchovny, Orlando Jones, Seann William Scott, Julianne Moore and Ted Levine. In the United States, it was released by DreamWorks and internationally, it was released by Columbia Pictures.
The plot of the film follows college professor Ira Kane (David Duchovny) and geologist Harry Block (Orlando Jones) who investigate a meteor crash in Arizona. They discover that the meteor is harboring extraterrestrial life which is evolving very quickly into large, diverse and outlandish creatures.
Evolution was based on a story by Don Jakoby, who converted it into a screenplay along with David Diamond and David Weissman. The movie was originally written as a serious horror science fiction film, until director Ivan Reitman re-wrote much of the script. Shooting took place in California with an $80 million budget and the film was released in the United States on June 8, 2001. The movie grossed $98,376,292 internationally. Reviews for the film were mostly unfavorable, as the movie review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a 42% positive rating.
A short-lived animated series, Alienators: Evolution Continues, that was loosely based on the film was broadcast months after the movie was released. Dissapointing. It wasn't that bad, but I found nothing enjoyable about it, either. C

Horrid. I spent the entire movie feeling sorry for Julianne Moore; I guess everyone needs a paycheck once in a while.

Not great (or even good) moviemaking, but I thought it was kinda fun. Everyone seems to be in on the joke.

Actually pretty funny. It wasn't a great movie at all, but it was entertaining enough.

Evolution was a huge disappintment to me since it looked like a movie I'd enjoy a lot. The cast ensemble is great and that makes the whole thing even more disappointing. They got Duchovny, Seann Willaim Scott and Julianne Moore altogether, but still didn't manage to make the movie impressive. The usually hilarious Scott can't really deliver here, Moore seems miscast and Duchovny is the highlight. The effects are neat and the creature design was creative up until the "apes" showed up which were horrible. Overall, the movie tries to be the next Ghostbusters/Men in Black, but it fails miserably in that category. What remains is very stupid summer fun that relies a bit too much on gross jokes at times and should have had more action than the (not working) humor. Very much of a let-down, consdering the premise, the cast and the director.

 Re: Evolution
I think the film is pretty solid until the premise gets too big for them. Duchovony and Jones are great together and Moore and Scott play off them good as well. If its third act wasn't so borrowed from other films it would have been much more memorable.

 Re: Evolution
Just recently rewatched this, I don't think much has changed. I think this movie actually is pretty solid until the mall scene is over, then it just stops being the film it was. It just switches to autopilot mode. The jokes just stop, the characters move to the side and the action finale is super lame. Kind of a shame because the first 45 minutes were pretty good.
