i ♥ huckabees, known as I Heart Huckabees, and also I Love Huckabees, is a 2004 comedy film from Fox Searchlight. It was produced and directed by David O. Russell, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jeff Baena. The film reunites Russell with actor Mark Wahlberg; they had previously worked together on the 1999 film Three Kings. The film also reunites Russell with actress Lily Tomlin; they had previously worked together on the 1996 film Flirting with Disaster.

This thread is pretty pointless. A truly accurate description of Huckabees cannot be put into words.
I liked it, but I couldn't tell you why if my life depended on it.
It was just...good. and...thought provoking.

I did not like it. This is the *very* definition of a love it or hate it movie. I Heart Huckabees has some good acting (namely Mark Wahlberg and Naomi Watts) but its philosophical undertones seemed so inane to me that I wanted to scratch my eyes out by the end of the film. I just could not figure out what the hell anyone was talking about. Bleh. D+

You really have to like these kinds of movies to fully enjoy I HEART HUCKABEES. I for one loved the hell out of it. I rented it during winter break and I bought the two disk special edition the same day. It's just absolutely hilarious, I haven't laughed so hard in a movie in a very long time. The acting is great as well, Lilly Tomblin was hilarious! I don't know why but I loved the sprinkler part. My friend had it on replay and it kept playing over and over again and I kept laughing. I'd recommend I HEART HUCKABEES to people who are very smart and think they can understand it. A lot of people say they need to watch it more than once because there is just so much in the film but I only watched it once and understood it fine.

FUCKABEES!!!!

9/10 (A-)

This is definitely not my kind of movie. I love intelligent thought provoking films that have hidden messages, but I did not like this movie at all. I wanted to love it so much, but it was way too weird for my tastes. All of the performances are great, and I've never seen Mark Whalberg so convincing in a role, but this film is just much too confusing. It seems like a butchered mess to me.

Sorry you didn't like it PinkPanther. I thought it was one of the best films of last year. At least more people like it than dislike it for the ones that voted \:D/

I (Heart): I (Heart) Huckabees! - I mean how often does Hollywood make a philosophy spoof?!?

If you're in the mood for some philosophical riffing in a humorous key, then I (Heart) Huckabees may be just the ticket for you. But I'm certain it's not for everyone. If you didn't enjoy all the philosophical discussion in Before Sunset because it was taking time away from the romance, or even worse if you hated Waking Life, then you may not be grasshopper enough to be ready to explore this meditation on reality. Otherwise - enjoy using your head for a change at the movies...

5 out of 5.

What a fucking weird movie. I didn't understand most of it, but I liked it, and there were some pretty funny parts. Absurd but highly memorable.

I was a bit torn grading this one. Initially, I was inclined to grade it an F, but I just can't ignore the overall pretty good acting (Jude Law and Mark Wahlberg in particular were outstanding, though everyone did a fine job) and the good score...On the other hand, I can't just give a movie with good acting, a few funny satirical moments and a good music a decent grad eif the story flat out sucks.

I mean, please, name me a more pretentious, wannabe movie of the last decade: You'd be hard-pressed to come up with one. I really liked David O'Russell's work on Three Kings, but this one was clearly over his head. It's not just that it's completely ridiculous, what annoyed me more was the fact that it tried to sell itself as more than it actually was. Which is barely anything. The whole philosophical mumbling came across as natural and "intelligent" as the lines in your usual Uwe Boll flick. It's just the other side of the spectrum, but equally bad.

I won't tell you to avoid it at any costs because a film like this must be seen and kept in memory is THE definition of pretentiousness.

You do realize the movie is a spoof right?

This movie is hysterical with great performances throughout. I can see how some people hate it. and Jonah Hill is great in an earlier role. I just love everything about this movie. It was in my top 100 films. A+

Hear hear. Dismissing it as pretensious is the sort of intellectual laziness that's not worth discussing. You may not want to go down the rabbit hole and may think it's foolish or boring, but I can accept someone who says it just wasn't for them far before I can these half-assed attempts at saying it's an awful film.

I feel sorry for anyone interested in seeing this and sometimes decides if they'll rent it based on reviews. Some of the most mixed reviews I've ever read.

3/10 -> D-

If Mark Wahlberg and Jude Law weren't in it the movie wouldn't have a single strength. It's awful. The story drowns in its own pretentiousness. It's lame even as a spoof.

I've always loved this. One of those films I enjoy revisiting from time to time, always leaving with a smile on my face. I also own the screenplay in book form (accompanied by an interview with David O. Russell).

It is what it is. An exploration of interconnectivity/romantic philosophy vs. nihilism playing out in a colorful, fun, Wes Anderson-esque setting.

It's hilarious. It's smart, yet light. Wahlberg is PERFECT. The jabs at corporate culture are spot-on and nicely vicious. Russell is a real talent.

Absolutely, as represented in this thread. I shut it off. Just could not take much of it. Very grating. Weird. Confusing. Whatever. Just wasn't my thing at all. If I'd chosen to see it theatrically it may have been one of the only movies I'd have walked out of.
