What a flop. 100 million budget and probably around 25 million final gross. What went wrong?

Is jamie foxx on his path to the list of oscar winning actors now making one critically mutilated box office bomb after another?

It'll likely end with with around $30 million (I mean, it's gotta do better than XXX2...).

As for 'what went wrong', it can't be the marketing because the marketing was one of the best things about the movie. I don't believe the stars hurt it, although a better lead could have produced a better opening weekend.

Plain and simple, there was no interest.

It was a concept that might have been popular in 1989.

It definitely wasn't the marketing. Also, the backlash against Rob Cohen couldn't have been THAT great.

There is one thing that made me worried about it all the time and that was the fact that it dealt with fighting jets. How many successful airfight movies, except Top Gun, do you know? That's a rather unknown field. Now we know that it doesn't really pay off. The Island was probably a bit too sci-fi...

I believe that what is needed is some more down-to-earth action movies, like Con Air and Face Off... Then again, there was xXx 2...

We need action movies that aren't really action movies but they are cool with action. Like Payback, Collateral & Ocean's Eleven

Those sort of things work nowadays. NOT action action, like xXx 2.

Well, Bad Boys II still worked two years ago. And so did S.W.A.T.

Thats what I said before too but the posters here dismissed my point when I mentioned that the only real successful jet movie was Top Gun. Flight of the Intruders, Firefox, Iron Eagle, and the Right Stuff all bombed

What we need is the bankable stars to back up these action flicks...

XXX2, Stealth, and The Island did not have this one key requirement, which Bad Boys II, I, Robot, S.W.A.T. (to some extent), and XXX had.

For those who said Mission: Impossible III is in trouble, I seriously doubt it, because not only does that have a fanbase and a huge audience, but also Tom Cruise, who can draw in lots of people.

Exactly what i mean. They had an element of 'cool' about them. When i see a fat black dude jumping onto a helicopter and an explosion and then a boat chase and what not...i dont want to be wowed, i want to cry...with laughter.

There is a difference. xXx 2 is laughable. SWAT was cool, as was BB2.

I do think MI3 is in trouble, they have been trying to find a director for the movie for so long. Its shape is as bad as Rush Hour 3 is where they are losing the director. MI3 problems almost mirros that is because Tom Cruise delayed the movie to do WOTW and the people that were supposed to be cast like Scarlet and Carrir Ann Moss all dropped out of the project, dont forget that they had 2 other directors who dropped out too. MI3 may not bomb but Im willing to wager that it will do either below the first MI's number or just barely go over it

The Stealth bomber/fighters are over 15 years old, the title conjures up an image of something that sounded cool and cutting edge in the Reagan era.

Well, S.W.A.T. hardly had more starpower than xXx 2. Both had Sam L. Jackson and Ice Cube is hardly less of a draw then Colin Farrell. At worst, they are equal.

Isn't MI:3 already filming? It's gonna have to make a lot of money though, because even though Cruise renegotiated, I think he's still getting a large percentage of the gross.

SWAT also had LL and Michelle Rodriguez. And it had that dude shouting 100 MILLION DOLLARS. Which had people reminded of Dr Evil.

Stealth had a horrible title as did The Island. When you see Jamie Foxx flying around in a jet, Jessica Biel in a bikini, the dude from Dawn of the Dead laughing at a bad joke, and all this shit blowing up .. you don't think Stealth. Kinda hard to attract the non internet crowd, and alot of y'all thought it looked horrible.

Plus the overload of sci-fi/action movies this summer.

Poor Jamie Foxx.

What went wrong?

1. Bad concept

2. A serious lack of starpower. (Jamie Who??)

I watched it tonight.I am really surprised that it opened so poorly.I mean, this is summer don't people like to go see shit blown up for 2 hours any more.Hell,Jessica Biel in a bikini was worth the price of admission alone. This is a great summer popcorn movie :pop: as was The Island.I don't get it. ](*,)
