Spoiler kind of
Weren't they both speaking in the same accents when the guns were drawn on them? I'm trying to remember now, but I didn't notice any difference at that point. I do remember later on, Lincoln does gain a Scottish accent when he goes back to the building posing as Tom, but I think they were both using one at that certain point.
The question I had is why didn't the thugs demand them to show them their wrists, to see which one had the branding? Didn't Djimon Hounsou's character know about that? That way there wouldn't have been any confusion.

I don't want to hear any sarcastic "what a surprise!" comments.
Wow. This could quite possibly be one of the greatest sci/fi movies of all-time, surpassing some of my personal favorites, I, Robot and Minority Report. Michael Bay, once again, proves that he is the king of summer blockbusters. It reminded me of those awesome action films from the 90's. You know, the ones with good storylines, and some excellent action scenes to back it up. The Island does have a great plot and contains some of the coolest, loudest, and amazing action scenes I've ever seen. And, not only that, but there's a ton of 'em. As a traditional Michael Bay film, the movie runs a running time over two hours, but you'll never get bored. Great performances by McGregor and Johansson (who looks unbelievably hot in this movie...). The car chase was awesome as well. Not only is it one of the best sci/fi movies, but quite possibly one of the best action movies. It's easily Bay's best film, and this is coming from a HUGE fan of Bad Boys, Bad Boys II, and The Rock. Visually stunning, action-packed, brilliant, and fun; I really can't ask for more in my summer movies. A+

B-. It worked really well when it was THX 1138-lite, but I was bored by the action scenes... something I never thought I'd say in a Michael Bay movie. I kept waiting for it to slow down and get back to the good stuff.
And on that SPOILER...
They didn't find it completely odd that the real Lincoln was saying "He's the clone!" from the beginning, whereas it took Six-Echo a minute to suddenly start playing along... and then they shot the real guy 'cuz Six-Echo strapped the bracelet on his wrist! Couldn't they tell he did it? It wasn't exactly a subtle gesture.

The Island is amazing film that actually has a good plot to go along with the usual Bay explosions. This movie is easily the top action movie of the summer with the best car chase scene I have ever seen hands down. God bless Michael Bay for he know to shit up better than anyone else. Bay has a love him or hate him feeling among movie fans but I love him. If I were to list my top 10 movies of all time, quite a few of his would appear (with the Rock being #1). Also, I just can't get over how mind blowing hot Johansson was in this movie.

This movie is one of the best action/sci-fi films of the year. It is filled with dazzelling performances by McGregor, and Johansson. She was so incrredibly hot in this movie. Her lips are so voluptuous. Not only is she drop dead gorgeous, but she is a very talented actress. I thought the whole story made perfect sense, and it was simple enough for the viewer to comprehend, which I think worked to its advantage. There are a few plot holes, but nothing too extreme. The action sequences work, and they are very well done. I thought Michael Bay did a splended job not only directing, but producing. There was some good comic relief from the friends of McGregor, which I thought was great. The special effects are very beautiful, and really are pleasing to the eye. I also really liked the score, it sounded really excellent. The Island was amazing, and it was a very cool experience to see. More people should be watching this movie.

Spoilers..
They were both speaking in the same accent at that point.. and Dijmon Hounsou's character didn't know about the branding, I don't think, because when he was bringing Scarlett back to the facility, she was rubbing her numbers on her wrist, and he caught her doing that, and that's when he spoke to the guy (forgot his name) in the office about the way he was branded etc. etc.

Sorry, but this was another great movie this summer - boy, are we ever lucky! There's been a few excellent movies in a row recently...
The Island is super well written and is a clear dystopian satire of the path of current conservative/fascist thought/policy. This is a thoroughly surprisingly honest deconstruction of our current society and it's seemingly ordained path to destruction. In retrospect, it's both hard to believe that Michael Bay would create such a self-destructive product and at the same time easy to understand why it "bombed" at the box office this weekend. This movie is the best subversive action flick since Panic in the Year Zero!...
To those who are keeping track (aka MovieDude), sorry, but this one's another perfect score:
5 out of 5. ( A+/10/10)
(...at least I gave that damn penguin movie a 3 out of 5!)

THE ISLAND - 9/10 (A-)
An extremely interesting, well-made and entertaining science-fiction thriller with dynamite special effects and excellent performances. Michael Bay really knows how to keep an audience intrigued and his direction is in top form here. Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson are both great. This is an excellent action film and one of the best movies of the summer! Highly recommended.

Director Michael Bay has always been the go-to man for the quintessential summer blockbuster. Over the past ten years, he has built up a reputation in the film industry for being virtually critic-proof. Whether he brings us a war epic ( PEARL HARBOR), a disaster film ( ARMAGEDDON) or an action comedy ( BAD BOYS, BAD BOYS II), his films always seem to rake in tons of money. This is why many were surprised when Bay opted to direct THE ISLAND, a futuristic sci-fi thriller that would be his first film without producer Jerry Bruckheimer. People were surprised when two stars with indie-cred, Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson, were cast as the leads and seemed shocked when the budget reached over $122 million. This seemed to be a high-profile failure from the getgo. However, THE ISLAND is none of the sort. In fact, Bay has created another summer blockbuster that is one of his best efforts.
I've always been a huge fan of Bay. I loved the underrated PEARL HARBOR and ARMAGEDDON and found the BAD BOYS films enjoyable as well. This is one of the reasons I was anticipating this film. Another reason was because of the cast. Ewan McGregor always has a knack for picking interesting and captivating projects and Scarlett Johansson is a true star on the rise. Plus, the trailers offered up a great time at the theater. I was sold almost immediately.
The story grabs hold of you from the first frame, a dream sequence inside the mind of Lincoln Six-Echo (McGregor). Living in captivity after the world has been contaminated, he knows nothing of the outside world. The facility that he and thousands more inhabit is supposedly one of the last remaining areas with human life intact. The only other place is the illustrious "Island." Every day, a person is randomly selected to travel to "Earth's last remaining paradise" to live a life of leisure and repopulate the planet. Lincoln questions this process though, not believing what everyone seems to be telling him. The only one he feels that he can trust is Jordan Two-Delta (Johansson), an optimistic young woman who looks for the good in everything. However, one night, Lincoln escapes and realizes the horrifying truth. The Island is a facade. In fact, all of the people living in captivity are in fact copies of people out in the world - clones. He immediately notifies Jordan and the two run away, trying to find their "sponsors" in the real world. With the evil tycoon Merrick (Sean Bean) and a hired contractor (Djimon Hounsou) hot on their trail, Lincoln and Jordan must set out to prove the evils that are going on inside the corporation.
The acting in the film is top-notch. McGregor is great as the curious yet naive Lincoln and is really believable in his portrayl. He makes the character likable and also makes the audience feel for him. He also does a complete 180 when playing Tom Lincoln, the sponsor. This character is completely the opposite of Lincoln while still acting remarkably similar. McGregor does a great job changing attitudes completely for the dual roles. Johansson is also great, making her first appearance in a big budget film after stealing the show in indie fare such as LOST IN TRANSLATION. She portrays a strong and capable woman who does her best to survive without the knowledge of the outside world, and works with McGregor to create great chemistry. Sadly, the supporting cast is slightly underused. Hounsou is solid as Laurent and his character transition near the end is completely believable. Sean Bean seems to be getting typecast in these sorts of roles, but he does a decent job. Michael Clarke Duncan is vastly underused in a brief role and Steve Buscemi inserts a bit of comedic wit when he does appear onscreen.
The direction is also excellent. Michael Bay really knows what he is doing when it comes to action films, and his best talents are showcased here. The special effects are excellent and the atmosphere really feels like it is the future, not some kind of phony facade. The chase sequence in Los Angeles is one of the best in recent memory, both thrilling and visually stunning. I've always considered Bay to be an underrated director, and I think this film shows why. The script is solid as well. It could have very well been extremely cheesy and cliche science-fiction writing, but instead it is surprisingly great. Comedy is inserted when needed, the dialogue moves at a fast pace and isn't too technical either (a pleasant surprise for those of us who aren't science-fiction fans).
Overall, THE ISLAND is an excellent film. Complete with great direction, stunning visual effects and an excellent cast, it is one of the summer's best films. Go ahead and take the trip.

Very stylish, very interesting.
Not a classic.
Zing, you can't really call this a scifi movie, either  You seemed to like it for the action, too, I bet
The scifi aspect of the story was pretty good. Started out strong, but got side tracked for action (good action).
Heh, it was even more thought provoking than I, Robot.

I was actually talked into seeing this film . I went blind having no idea wat it was about. my friend Scott filled me in somewhat but not much. I actually liked it and normally it bothers me to no end when I don't know what the films about. but I did very much injoy this film and found myself getting into it once I understood what it was about.

Completely agree. 'The Island' is one hell of an entertaining ride of a motion picture and deserved a much better fate at the box office. I can't say enough about the performances of Johansson and McGregor. They were excellent.
