Quote:
A Tale of Two Sisters (장화, 홍련 Janghwa, Hongryeon literally 'Rose Flower, Red Lotus') is a 2003 South Korean psychological horror film written and directed by Kim Ji-woon. The film is inspired by a Joseon Dynasty folktale entitled "Janghwa Hongreyon-jon", which has been adapted to film several times.

A Tale of Two Sisters opened to very positive critical review and won Best Picture at the 2004 Fantasporto Film Festival. It is both the highest-grossing Korean horror film and the first to be screened in American theatres. An American remake titled The Uninvited was released in 2009.

A Tale of Two Sisters is literally one of the best horror films I have ever seen. It mixes drama with horror in a fantastic way. Not to mention all of the actors are brilliant in their roles. I wasn't expecting much from this, but I was really surprised by how spectacular it was. I thought the twist at the end is one of the best twists I have ever seen. It didn't leave me bewildered, or asking questions. I thought it was a great twist, that made perfect sense. I watched it again, and I discovered even more about the ending, and I found some more pieces to the puzzle that helped me better understand the conclusion. I heard Hollywood is remaking this, and that saddens me. I don't think they could do a better job, this movie is a classic. The two girls that play the sisters are amazing, and the evil stepmom is the real standout for me. I found her performance to be amazing. The visuals are breathtaking, and I found the cinematography to be very beautiful. I would recommend this to horror fans, that want to see a well done horror movie. This movie holds your attention too, and never lets go. It has a slow beginning, but as the middle approaches, it quickly picks up, and the ending really rewards you, and makes the slow start not a big deal. I've been getting into Asian Horror Films lately, and this is one of my current favorites. I'm definitely going to watch it again before I return it. Highly recommended.

The movie is extremely slow and somewhat confusing but grabs your attention until the very end. Fantastic acting and very beautiful visuals, It had a amazing/unique story that kept twisting and twisting every god damn time, I actually needed to watch it a few times to get a few things i was puzzled about.

I definitely recommend this movie to every horror fan especially the ones who love Asian horror, although i think it was a bit more drama but there were a few scenes were you will be creeped out, like, The kitchen scene and the bedroom scene when a mysterious woman in blue appears  .

Indeed, this is a good representative of Asian horror. It is very creepy, with excellent imagery and it doesn't make much sense, but this is something that is true to most Asian horror films, so I didn't mind. In fact, I'm sure that deep down there it made some sense, but I don't pretend to understand all of it. I guessed part of the twist pretty early on, but the very ending is very haunting. A good movie, but I have certainly seen scarier Asia horror (Shutter, One Missed Call).
