Oh god, please excuse me as I puke all over Canadian Idol. What a bunch of moronic Canadians we are. The most talented person in the group, Julie, doesn't even make the wild card! Jen doesn't even make it either! Barrett? Luke? Ewww. This is an abomination.

just a question, how do your Idols perform in Canada? Do they actually become popular as our idols in the states do?

Oh, man, Canadian Idol producers.... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE fire Ben Mulroney. He sucks. Big time. He makes me cringe every episode. He's so terrible, and you get the feeling everyone, including the audience, can see just how bad he is. Urggh. He makes the show feel so awkward. A better host would make Canadian Idol 10 times better. The host is a big part of how well the Idol show runs.
PEACE, Mike

I actually think you become LESS famous if you win Idol. Our first Idol, Ryan Malcolm had one single and now pretty much sings for food. Second Idol, Kalan Porter, well.... I haven't heard a single thing from him. The rest have CD's, but nothing really popular. I think the most succesful one has been Audrey de Montigny, who came in 4th in the first season. She has a rabid fan base here in Quebec and is a huge star around here.

Tonight was pretty good (despite the glaring ommission of Julie! I'm still fuming over it!). Anyways, this would be how I would rank it.
1. Stéphane- Really surprised me. He gave a fantastic performance and has a really powerful voice. Deserves to be in the top 10 after that.
2. Aaron- I think I preferred him last time, but he still has one of the best voices in the competition.
3. Vince- He was actually good tonight. Good voice, but I don't think he's good enough.
4. Dianelys- Another shocker. That was a pretty good performance after the atrocity that was Summertime. Wouldn't mind if she got in)
5. Devika- I really love her, but her voice is just too weak. I really like her personality, but her performance was just ok.
6. Josh- Kaleb: Reloaded. I don't get it with this guy. He's horribly, but the judges like him (just like Kaleb)
7. Barrett- Oh god that was horrid, incredibly weak voice.
8. Luke- I think I almost fell asleep during this. And what's with all the weird facial expressions?
Overall pretty good. But I refuse to vote since Julie's not in it [-( But I am noticing a trend here. Each year, there is a person from Quebec/Montreal who is exceptionally good in the first round and should be voted through. (Andrew Leader Season 1, Liz Titan Season 2, now Julie Season 3). They make it to the wild card, but then... unexplicably... THEY DON'T MAKE IT THROUGH! And each time I swear I'll never watch the show again... then look what happens.

Well some of them do. Ryan Malcolm (first season winner) was pretty much a bar singer and there was only like 2 or 3 people that season that were any good (Toya, Billy, Audrey). Season 2's winner, Kalan was actually good. Maybe I just don't listen to the right stations. That season had about 4 that were really good (Kalan, Theresa, Shane, Elena).

That show sucked.
It began sucking when Julie and Jenn were omitted from the singing line-up in favour of puke-inducing "heartthrobs" like Barrett. I really believe only Aaron, and surprisingly Stephane, gave good performances. Everyone else was kinda awful, including Kaleb's sister Dianelys  .
And yeah, despite all this, Canadian Idol has displayed some fine talent and this year's top 10 is shaping up to be the best yet.

Kalan is actually pretty popular. His videos are always in heavy rotation on MuchMusic (basically Canada's MTV) and MusiquePlus (ditto, but in French). He's also on the radio quite a bit. I mean, don't get me wrong, but he's got a nice little career.

Well I'm glad that Aaron is in. But it's sad whenever I have to root for Dianelys. Josh is just too "out there" for my taste and I really dislike him. Ugh. I thought for sure Vince would get in, and I actually would have preferred him over Dianelys or Josh. I'm also pretty disapointed Stéphane didn't even make the top 3, seeing that he had the best performance of the night. I've noticed a trend though each year though. There is always a quirky and different person in the top 10 and I usually hate their guts and they usually go far. Jenny Gear Season 1 (I didn't mind her though), Kaleb last year (*shudders*) and now this year, Josh. And seeing Julie again makes me sad and makes me hate Canada a little bit more for getting rid of such a talented person . Stupid stupid Canada.

Wow. What a fantastic show. At first I thought the top 10 would be terrible, but I was very impressed.
Josh Palmer: A+
Ashley Leitao: A
Melissa O'Neil: A-
Suzi Rawn: A-
Emily Vinette: B
Casey LeBlanc: B
Daryl Brunt: B-
Aaron Walpole: C+
Rex Goudie: C
There was nothing special about Rex AT ALL. He sang Born to be Wild so blandly and with no inspiration. Kalen Porter sang it much better than him. Rex didn't even really show off that great of vocals. I'll have to wait for another song to see.
Aaron Walpole unfortunately I thought was rather poor. I actually can see what Zach what meant by being more of a theatrics performer over real voice. I hope he stays in though, he represents my city!
Daryl is on his way to be a potentially great performer. Same with Casey. Both of them were hindered by nerves, really.
Everyone else was awesome. Not everyone will appreciate Josh Palmer, but I think he is the true Canadian artist. A real performer and a real singer.
PEACE, Mike

Tonight was just ok. Nothing too mindblowing. Here's my rankings.
1. Ashley- Wow, she really surprised me. I never thought she had such a great voice.
2. Melissa- Really solid performance. I think she's probably one of my favorites now.
3. Amber- As usual, her voice is just fantastic and shows such great emotion in her performances.
4. Rex- Sure the song wasn't probably the best to start off with, but I think he's great. I wish he chose something that showed off his strong vocals more though.
5. Josh- Now here's a shocker. I sorta liked him! I just don't get his singing style really, but tonight he was good.
6. Suzi- I was slightly disapointed. Some of her notes were a bit shaky, but when she's good, she's really good.
7. Aaron- Another one I was a bit disapointed with. He usually does a lot better than that and I felt very meh after.
8. Casey- Nerves really did get the best of her. She has a good voice, but that song did not work at all.
9. Emily- When she's in her higher register, she's fantastic, she has potential to win. But that lower register is pretty ghastly. Hope she works it out though because she has a lot of potential
10. Daryl- I just can't stand this guy. His voice just makes me want to shoot myself. I can't stand it.
Although I would LOVE for Daryl to be gone, I think he's pretty safe. I'm 99% sure though that Emily is out. She doesn't have that big of a fan base and her performance wasn't that great. Shame though since she has a lot of potential.
What I want:
Bottom 3: Daryl, Emily, Casey (Daryl out)
What will happen:
Bottom 3: Emily, Casey, Aaron (Emily out)

I was really looking forward to tonight, but save for a couple, they all managed to disappoint me.
I don't know if it was nerves (typical cop-out excuse), song choice, the redundancy of some of these songs or what, but I was waiting for a spark that never came. I think the two bright spots were Melissa, who is really coming into her own with her infectious personality and silky smooth tone (and a good lower register, something some other performers *cough*Emily*cough* don't possess) and Ashley who was kind of surprising.
I do think Amber is a good singer and she emotes very well, but she is nowhere near the holy/divine songstress that the judges would have you believe she is. And while I think it's cool and all that you have a few rockers "representing", it's simply not enough just to have the attitude when they are all clearly lacking in the vocal department. This goes for Suzi, Josh and Rex.
Aaron should really choose a slower balad, as that upbeat rocker just brought out everything that is wrong with his voice tonight. He's still got a lot of potential though, and remains the best male vocalist in the top 10.
Casey, who is my early favourite to win, also came up short and sung her song way too softly. I know she can belt it out, as she did just that with the jazzy song in group 2, so maybe it was nerves. I hope people can overlook this mis-step and give her another chance.
Daryl and Emily were both pretty bad. Daryl has ZERO power in his voice and Emily has nothing but those loud "starsearch" moments (which aren't even sung very well).
I hope for better next week.

I agree 100%. She's an excellent singer, but the judges make her out to seem like she's the best thing since sliced bread or something. She deserves praise, but not the amount that she's getting. And seeing Emily and Casey mess up tonight makes me think what Julie could have done, since I believe she is far superior. (And no, I won't get off the the whole Julie thing. I'm still upset. )

Zach bothers me way too much. It's too bad that he tries so hard to be Simon, but ends up looking worse than Simon could ever look on his worst days of American Idol.
Jon Dore should replace Ben Mulroney.
That is all.

I agree. Then maybe we can find out a way to eliminate Jon Dore (and maybe Sass Jordan's cleavage while we're at it) and then all problems will be solved!

What sweet justice.
That classless bitch Emily refused to take Melissa's hand and ended up getting tossed. Wonderful =D> .
Yeah, it was surprising that Melissa was in the bottom 3, but these kinds of things always happen with Idol. I would not expect to see her in that position again for a while. Otherwise, Daryl and Emily deserved to be there and Emily deserved to go.

I'm not sure if Emily deserved to go just yet. Daryl is much worse, but I would have got rid of her in a week or 2 anyways, so no big loss. And what the hell was Melissa doing in the bottom? She was one of the best last night. But I did laugh when Emily didn't take Melissa's hand. And did you notice the whole time she was as far away from her as possible?

I know, I saw that! Holy crap. I've never seen anything like that before. Wouldn't have helped her if she had actually stayed on the show.
That being said, I wouldn't have voted her out just yet. Like laneyboy, I thought at least Daryl was worse.

Yeah I would have sent the twink home before Emily too. But meh, even though it would have been nice to see a girl from my home town progress a bit, she was on a short list anyway.

Worse than the first night. I agree with Zach, that most of them sang technically well, but that's it. They brought nothing else to the table (except the rockers!! They shined tonight.) Still, no "A" performances. Nothing memorable, for me personally.

Aside from Aaron and Suzi (who unfairly had a pretty rocked up version of that song) I was less than impressed with this year's contestants, once again. Everyone was just kind of in the middle tonight, except for Josh and Rex who were horrendous beyond all belief. I think Daryl, Amber and Josh will be bottom three tomorrow, with an outside chance at Casey being there.

I think it'll end up being Daryl, Ashley, and Casey. With Melissa possibly sneaking in again.
Josh and Amber are too distinct and generally praised to make it into the bottom 3 on only the second week into the top 10, in my opinion. Casey, Melissa, and Ashley all sort of bland together and overlap I think in terms of votes, and Daryl is just plain bad. So, I think you're off. But I could be wrong.

Well, my thinking is is that Amber and Melissa are both from the same region and therefore will split votes. However, since the fiasco last week that saw Melissa relegated to the bottom 3, I believe there will be a large rebound vote for her and Amber will get lost in the rush (and she really hasn't been performing as well as the judges would have you believe). As far as Josh goes, I just think he's even further out there than Jacob was and comes off as too cocky and that could easily sway some voters to not dial his digits. But hey, I could see it going your way just as easily.
