How can you give a film a near perfect rating when you think it's boring?
Kid, you dont make any sense, I gave it a 9.5 when comparing it to Batman & Robin and Batman Forever, it is a boring movie though that nobody will see twice and that is dropping like a rock at the BO, so much for it's great wom, it cant even get to 300m.

WOW I could swear that this post is nearly a 1:1 copy of a post that BKB did a few weeks ago.
Killuminati510 will become BKBs brother or......... BKB himself. I smell attack of the clones.

Fantastic Four isn't a bad movie, but it is an uninspired one. The film has its moments, but too much of the film lags. The main problem this movie has is that it takes so long explaining the setup and beginnings of the Fantastic Four that when we finally get action, it's not even really until the climax and then the film abruptly ends. Inevitably, the film will be compared to other comic book adaptations. Unfortunately, Fantastic Four is the lowest quality one I've seen since the boom of X-Men in 2000. Director Tim Story, of the occasionally insightful Barbershop and the abysmal Taxi, was just not a good selection to direct this picture. As Loyal said, the film often felt like a commercial with its MTV-style editing and obscene product placement (particularly in one scene). The fantastic foursome (along with the villain) see mixed results. Chris Evans turns in by far the best performance in the film. He is consistently charming and makes us laugh as the hotheaded yet likable Johnny Storm. Michael Chiklis gets a few nice moments (particularly a brief one with a blind woman portrayed by Kerry Washington). The interaction between The Human Torch and The Thing was fun. The other three main performances are less than impressive. Jessica Alba looks great but is miscast as Sue Storm; she is never that convincing in the role. Sin City used the actress to better effect. Julian McMahon makes for a rather boring villain, as he attempts to be trying to act suave and calm as opposed to menacing like he should be. Ioan Gruffudd's Mr. Fantastic is so dull that he threatens to fade into the background at every possible moment (you would think he's playing the invisible character, not Alba). A lame love triangle between Doom-Richards-Sue Storm is also eyeroll-inducing. I wish Fantastic Four had started near where it ended. The film actually manages to show a lot of promise by the end, unfortunately there's only 10 minutes left by that point. I think this would've been a better movie in the hands of a different and a director more experienced with something like this. C

Thanks for seeing it, Libs. Wish you would have enjoyed it more, and perhaps you even would have if BKB would have left you alone. That had to wear on you.

Anyway, about Reed Richards, that's exactly how his character is. Dull and boring, with no flash or sparkling personality. Just a stable leadership quality, and the smartest guy on the planet, who you would want on your side during a crisis.

its very clear that you haven't seen anything at all. RT said that white noise and AvP sucked but you keep claiming they were good leading me to believe there is no way you saw either movie and if you lied about them, you lied about everything else as well.

(Somebody on another board said it was as funny as Harold And Kumar - can anyone independently confirm this?))

half the funnies are in the trailer. i perosnally thought the funnies work but the funnies were there to just keep the humor going and keeping the entire movie light hearted. its not meant to be laugh out loud or anything. meh .. i wouldn't go to F4 for just the funnies though.

For the record, i thought Harold and Kumar was dumb so i don't know how that influences how you see my comment above.

Never saw Harold and Kumar, but Fanatstic Four has plenty of good humor throughout. It gets good reactions from the audiences. They laugh when they're supposed to. The back and forth between Johnny and Ben is worth the price of admission, but it's not all that makes it worth it.

I wouldn't call FF funny. Besides, most of the jokes were in the trailer. It's more corny than anything.

Fantastic Bore

I can only imagine the look of horror on the faces of the cast and crew of Fantastic Four when they watched The Incredibles last fall. Pixar's film was a warm and friendly homage to the famed family of superheroes. It's not inconceivable to think that had the producers of Fantastic Four seen a rough cut of The Incredibles early enough, maybe they would have called the whole thing off. Fantastic Four isn't a horrible film, it definitely has its moments. But when your neighborhood is inhabited by the likes of Spider-Man 2, Batman Begins, and The Incredibles, no matter how fast and loud your sports car is, it's still just a Honda parked next to a Ferrari.

The success of comic book films often lies with the director. It's takes a certain type of talent to be to transfer the written exploits of superheroes onto film. It's not an easy task and the cinematic graveyard is littered with the headstones of directors unable or unwilling to meet the challenge. And with Fantastic Four, Tim Story the director of Barbershop is woefully out of his league. Parts of the film play like hyper stylized commercials. Others, like bad sitcoms. I expected at any moment for Johnny Storm aka The Human Torch (Chris Evans) to turn towards the camera and sell me Gatorade. Speaking of The Human Torch, the other players in this foursome aren't entirely without charm. The Thing (Michael Chiklis), The Invisible Girl (Jessica Alba), and Mr. Fantastic (Ioan Gruffudd) are all okay and likable. If there's anything that works in the film, it's the interaction between The Thing and The Human Torch. Too bad their relationship is shortchanged in order to give more time to the wholly unbelievable romance between The Invisible Girl and Mr. Fantastic.

Fantastic Four plays really loose and carefree with continuity. You never really buy into the universe because the rules change from scene to scene. One minute The Thing is too heavy to ride an elevator. The next, he isn't. The Human Torch is able to reach supernova temperatures. That's right, the temperature of the sun. What a fantastic ending to a potential film franchise that would be. Our hero, in an attempt to foil the evil Dr. Doom (Julian McMahon) goes supernova and destroys the planet. Now that's creative filmmaking. But no, somehow his energy is contained. And all is well. Except for the collateral damage that is. And the impending military response.

Truth is, there are too many good films in theaters right now to recommend Fantastic Four. Sure, there are some laughs to be found, almost exclusively thanks to Chris Evans. And it does revel in its own goofiness. But when a summer superhero film can't deliver an interesting story or at the very least, exciting special effects, what's the point?

D+

OK Roger Ebert.. Just like I said, READING TOO MUCH INTO THE MOVIE and trying to overanalyze why Johnny Storm could reach Supernova temperatures.. Pick up the comic Loyal and read next time and you'll understand it much better than you apparently didn't..

Sorry, some of us actually have brains

i thought this was better than WotW. At least FF doesn't take itself seriously. that is enough to make this an entertaining movie. If they make a sequel, then the sequal needs to have substance for this franchise to survive (aka X2)

I ended up seeing F4 tonight and it was pretty darn entertaining.

Shame is, it could have been freakin' fantastic with three key changes:

First, get rid of Jessica Alba - Yow! - that girl couldn't act her way out of a parking ticket! And worse, she doesn't even have one memorable hottie shot (eg: the cowgirl rope tricks amidst her equally bad performance in the great movie Sin City).

Second, would've been to get a decent actor to play the bad guy, Van Doom - this Julian McMahon was almost as bad as Jessica Alba!

Finally, they could have put a wee bit more thought into tightening up the story - it started great and dogged out by the last act.

The good stuff is that the other three leads - Ioan Gruffudd, Chris Evans, and Michael Chiklis were indeed fantastic. Plus, the screenplay had an excellent sense of humor, though I would have liked to have seen it cranked up even more - a little bit more Austin Powers and a little less Batman Begins...

This is the Charlie's Angels of superhero movies - let's hope we see just as much improvement in it's sequel.

This movie could have easily been 4 out of 5, if not higher - but as it stands, I can stand by a rating of:

3 out of 5.
