Looking for a Few Good Siskels and Eberts!
Hey all you lovely 10 folks that peek into this very special forum.
I have some ideas for how I want to continue to build this forum with your wonderful insight and assistance! So, I'm throwing out a suggestion for something I think could be interesting, and am looking for contributers, however, I also would love to hear any and everything you all have to say about this forum (Over Seas/Indies) since I'm pretty sure most of you have a better idea of what you would like to see happen with these threads and the site in general, than I do.
I was hoping to start a weekly back-and-forth, where two people watch the same film, and create a siskel and ebert-esque thumbs up, thumbs down type review. It can be a film both people have already seen, or one that they want to see, etc. Since I'm pretty sure its tough to get both people on the same page length otherwise. I've noticed alot of people "Match" someone else in the TOP 100 threads, and/or disagree with someone in those threads, and I was hoping once a week, perhaps via pm, they would create a discussion and then post it for everyone to read? Or, one person can start a thread on monday, and the two of them could build it back and forth for a day or two, and the rest of us will just promise not to *jump* into the thread before the two hosts announce they've wrapped up their internal debate.
It doesn't have to be the same two people every week, unless two people thoroughly enjoy it. The time is flexible as well.
I know there is a huge fanbase here for Amores Perros, and I'm going to pm Algren to see if he'd be interested in kicking off a discussion against someone else who has already seen it (or thinks they will this week).
Taking volunteers? Please sign up below.
If there is one particular movie you especially want to discuss, when you post your name, post the film as well, and if someone can match it, we can line you up for a time a few weeks down the line.
Any game> Or does anyone have any other suggestions they want to try out in this forum? Its still very malleable and would love to feel the workings of some of your hands and minds.

Algren seems to be having huge problems with the site, Dolce (like I do too, only apparently even worse) and that's why he is not coming here recently.
However, if the movie is Amores Perros, then I am in.

Yep. I'm in.
Dolce, will you act as a critic? If so, there's no way in hell I'm going up against you. You'll crush me with your commentary...
Perhaps, we could start by going down the Foreign Film/Independent Film lists, and, each week, we could offer two choices (one from each). And, then, one person would agree to watch one of the ones offered. That'll be the set film for the week, and then someone else will have to agree to watch it.
So, for example. This week, the two choices could be Adaptation and Amelie. I might see the thread first, and agree to watch Adaptation. Then, someone would have to agree to the terms, rent/buy/borrow Adaptation, and participate in a discussion.
It might be a good idea to go down the Foreign Film/Independent Film lists. That might build up those threads too.

OK guys...sorry but my new favorite poster Publicenemy already beat you to the punch.
Its going to be great, and we'll put it up tomorrow. no one is allowed to look into the thread until I change the title of it to invite everyone in, because the two of us have to build it first. Then you guys can come in and have a blast, question, agreements, flame-wars, whatever.
I'm looking for two people who are willing to go next week though? I will contact you with info as to how to proceed if after tomorrow you are still interested.

I didn't necessarily say this week (Even though PublicEnemy said next month, hehe). I'm still holding by my suggestion...
Trying to pick a film between two will get complicated, so, I suggest going through the top 100 list, even if it means watching a film you've already seen. And, do it on a first come, first serve basis.

Hehe, while I wish I could rewatch the movie we're reviewing, I'm ready for tomorrow i guess.
BTW Dolce, think every once in a while we could do a non independant film?

Lecter....Algren got my message but never responded. So I don't know if he's interested. I'm still looking for someone who may want to do amores perros with you.
Anyone want to review Amores Perros??? Kypade? You expressed interest, and if you've already seen the film, or think that you want to watch it before next thursday/friday we'd love to hear from you. If not, pick a movie and announce it, and I'll pencil you in for the following week. That gives someone else enough time to watch the movie you want to discuss.
BTW, you said you speak with him outside of World right? Maybe I was confusing in my message to him and he didn't realize what the hell I was blabbing on about? Anyways....we're going to trial, PE and I today and tomorrow. I thought My hand should be involved in the first week/trial of this, just to get the kinks worked out, and then next week it can start being any to people with just my assistance from the side if needed.
If you're game....I'll pencil you in Next week and we'll find reviewer #2 to do that film with you?
Torri...You...and I...DEAD MAN...whenever you wish. I've seen it at least 5 times, so I can talk about it at the drop of a hat. AT your leisure, whenever you get around to seeing it, even if in a month, just let me know. If you want to do Amelie maybe in two weeks, after Lecter and person-yet-known- do Amores Perros, I'll do that too, since I think that movie was a bit overrated.
Goldie, thanks, you know me...I sit here in this forum all day trying to figure out how to get people other than Lecter, Torri, Andaroo, Xiayun, and myself to post here. lol.
Thanks everyone. Now we'll test it out and suggestions for how to make it as fun as possible are greatly appreciated. Remember this is a trial run, so it can change in format, structure, timing, involvement, etc. And I want to make this as interesting and fun as possible, so don't hold back if you have suggestions. And as Torri said, if you want to join in and are unsure of how to proceeed, check out the 100 tops film threads or the film festival discussions for suggestions of what to watch, express interest, and we'll match you up with someone.
Sorry PE, we can't do non-indie/foreign flicks in the indie/foreign section, and I don't think we're going to start this up in the general movie section, as I want this forum to have unique qualities. I'm kind of possessive of it. That being said, we're pretty flexible about what "Indie" means  and don't forget alot of the animation stuff I know you like is foreign as well.

Just tell me, when I its my turn and I'll do it.
Another movie I would LOVE to review/discuss here with someone would be Donnie Darko. I think it can be classified as indie, can't it?
I do talk to Algren. He is having problems with the site, even worse than most others. He can't post a single reply anywhere at all at the moment. That is because he only uses Internet Explorer and I can say from my own experiences in the past week that IE is not going together with these boards AT ALL after the server rollover. He would be interested, he just cannot post.

Amores Perros and Donnie DArko are two fantastic films, at least for discussing them.
HEhe I'd love to do both when the time comes, but I'd at least like to take part in one.

Donnie Darko is much better discussion material than Amores Perros, though.

Okay. Rod and Lecter...check out the thread PE and I wrapped up and see what you guys think you could make out of Darko late next week. Remember this is the preliminary stages, so feel free to add your own ideas about how to spice it up. I was hoping we would get into a bit more of a flame war, but PE is too nice.
This will ge a great weekly series IMO.

You guys are set to go next week! Feel free to ask any questions and bring anything new and fresh to the set-up that you think will help it. Discuss away and have a blast.
*Back-n-Forth, Round 2*
Rod and Dr. Lecter Review Donnie Darko!
Also, y'all, poke into my and PE's review of Good Girl and put your two cents in.

Well Rod&Artur+Donnie= better than Tim + anything so ahem
no So when do we go at it next week?
I might have to watch the movie again, even though I already re-viewed it only a few weeks ago.
But definitely a good one to discuss, can't wait!

You know when I have seen it for the first time, I was blown away and saw it twice after that within a couple of days. Then I gave it to a friend of mine. He saw it three times within 2 days. After that we spent about 2 weeks discussing about this movie ALL THE TIME.

Yeah. Torri saw Dead Man. We're going to kick off round three two thursdays from now. This is so fun. Rod, Lecter, are you guys going to have an existential discussion about what the move really *means* lol. I used to go off on that for hours with people at the store.

Yeah! I talked about that to a friend of mine for hours and hours. Very interesting and intriguing theories in this movie. So, on what day is our turn?

Its up to you guys. Anytime later this week. Thursdays are the best, so that the write-up can be "revealed" on Friday, but it also just depends on when you and Rod think you can both get together and do it. The way PE1 and I did it, one person just sets up the thread and titles it "Back-n-Forth" Do not enter yet, etc. Then you guys can take all day posting at leisure if you want (if your times aren't compatible) or you can do it like PE1 and I and just do it all in one hour in the evening when you're both on. Whatever is good with yourschedules. Anyday this week, anytime, etc.
Feel free to ask questions, but I remember this is very new, so the rules aren't strict, and any input and ideas you guys have to make these bigger and better is excellent.
