 WHY is it okay if a human dies in a movie yet when an animal ... dies, people are offended or complain? A good example of this is The Godfather and the horses head in the bed. People complained about that yet Coppola mentioned over 30 people (is that exaggerated?) died in that movie. Yet no one protests or bitches about that. Since when are animals more important than humans? And most of the people who complain about animals dying in movies are meat eaters!

Hehe... this reminds me of a similar situation in the movie A Fish Called Wanda regarding the old lady and her slew of little pooches.

I don't like to see animals die in movies. I'm just against it. However, there are exceptions. Buttercup in Half Baked was quite hilarious! \:D/
The dog in Halloween wasn't so bad either.
But there are other movies, that take it too far in my opinion. I know its not real, but there is something very sadistic about it to me.

This reminds me of when PETA argued that the attacked CGI horses in the Lord of the Rings films promoted "horse violence". lmao.
If people aren't smart enough to realize that it is a MOVIE and the animals aren't actually being hurt, then I don't know what to say. No offense. But don't get me wrong, if animal cruelty was actually occuring on set, I wouldn't support it at all. But that's not usually the case.

I think people complained because a real horse had been killed for the scene in Godfather. When real animals get hurt or killed for our entertainment value, then I think there's nothing wrong with complaining. It's not like real people were killed in the movies.
Then again, I'm no hypocrite. I don't eat them either. It bothers me when people wearing furs and eating steak complain about the treatment of animals in movies....

A lot of times, I won't really care. There was a scene where an animal died in some newer movie (it could have been AMITYVILLE HOROR, I forgot if the dog died or not) and I found it a bit disturbing. Normally it won't bother me, unless of course they're really killing the animals, like in PINK FLAMINGOS.

Real people can fake death in movies. Thats what they do.
The issue is animal cruelty.
There are laws against it.
And since animal cruelty is such a strict thing in todays society, and we arent used to seeing that kind of thing, even faked animal cruelty is disturbing.
People die on film all the time. We know its fake. But with animals; we never know what happens to them after the film, we dont see a horse coming to the premiere to say its alright . Its that uncertainty that makes us all uneasy,

I guess it depends on the animal. I don't think many people were complaining when Jaws blew up. People complain because they're so goddamn bored they don't have anything better to do. As long as filmmakers aren't slaughtering animals to make their films more realistic, who the hell cares if the imaginary Fluffy the cat gets killed? As long as it serves the story, I don't care.

What about insects? In The Wild Bunch (A great movie) two scorpions are killed by a large army of ants. Actually, even though its insects, it still seems pretty cruel, but I dont really care because at least 100 people die in The Wild Bunch.

I see it sometimes, but not all the time.
