In the act of awarding a stunt person or a stunt coordinator, wouldn't that sort of... ruin the illusion that the actor wasn't performing his or her own stunts?

And what if... let's say... Russell Crowe was performing 90% of his own stunts...

QUESTIONS

Ya, I never thought of it raising the question of actors who do their own stunts. And also what would you consider a stunt? Does it necessarily have to be something perilous or can a large backflip kick suffice?

Why not? They take alot more risk than actors and directors. Also one minute they can be gone or crippled so I can see at least giving them the respect of giving them an award. I disagree with the statement abou just because we are giving awards to stuntmen that we are going to give it to grippers. At least we do see the stunts performed on screen and they are putting their lives in jeapordy

They normally dont allow actors to perform the high risks stunts. Not because they dont want to do it, but the insurancers dont want to cover it and the studios dont allow them to. Its why Jackie Chan prefers to do Hong Kong flicks because the american movies he did, the studios wont allow him to do his own stunts

All of the *good* awards at the Oscars (the ones that aren't stupid/BS/throaway awards) are all linked by this: all of the things for which they award are in almost every movie. Every movie has cinematogrophy. Every movie is edited. Every movie has sound and sound editing. Every movie has special effects. Not every movie has stuntmen. Which is one reason why I wouldn't support this.

But not every movie has special effects.

Correct. Look at the Blair Witch Project

okay bad example but still there was none.

What about acting in a Ben Affleck movie?

Every movie not recorded with a digital cam-corder and only costing $200 (for the pizzas and soda) has special effects.*

No.

It'd just add to the length of the ceremony.
