Batman (1989) - A
Ah, the memories. I haven't seen this movie since I was freakin' 6 years old. I still love it.

Batman Begins - B+
Pretty solid, nothing spectacular though.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith - A
Is it flawless? Of course not. Did I have a blast watching it, despite this being my 2nd viewing? Yes.
House of Flying Daggers - A
Well, I wasn't really paying attention since I was explaining stuff to my sister...

The Merchant of Venice: B+
A beautiful film with some fine performances. Al Pacino is searing yet subdued, and despite Shakespeare's work often suffering in modern day translations, I found only a few lines of forced dialogue or otherwise unnatural instances in the film. Though, and I say this without actually having read the play (yet having read enough Shakespeare to catch on), I could sense that the comedy of the source material was being subordinated for the more thematic character elements of the story. I also thought that the subplot in the last act with the disguises and such was a bit derivative, requiring either more or much less screen time. The humor/character compromise is a successful for the most part, and the film itself is actually quite fun to watch.

Sin City - A
Amazing. At last a comic book film that is actually a comic book film. Most try, but most fail...Punisher (1989), HULK (2003) and Daredevil (who cares)...but this mean and nasty film is BRILLIANT and beyond. Bruce was cool as hartigan and rourke was cool as marv and hartnett was cool for a few seconds but my favourite part of Sin City was the women!!!! GOSH theyre cool....and not to mention the nudity, haha. Jessica Alba looks better in black and white, lol. I never thought i fancied Brittany Murphy until now either.
Black and white really does bring out the better in people. Benicio was super cool and clive owen was okay, but he did the part proud. The only dow point was the wording at the beginning "shot and cut by..."...sorry, call me trivial, but i didnt like that, Rodriguez always does it, annoys the hell out of me. It was a very dark film, that was tedious at times, but didnt contribute to me not liking it, because i knew what i was going to see.....a film noir, and thats what i got.
In a word; Ace.

It's not as serious as the other two, and kinda crazy at times...but just great fun. And, of course, Nicole Kidman...

A couple late ones:
Batman Begins: B
In retrospect, I actually have no major qualms with the film's quality: the direction is good, the cast is great, Christian Bale was a great pick, the story is swift, the characters are layered, etc. Thus, it's unfortunate that I didn't find myself particularly enjoying what I was watching. Perhaps this has something to do with my (almost) innate distaste for all things superhero (neither Spider-Man did it for me), but I found the film as a whole to be quite laborious, lacking a spirit that most who loved the film seem to have found via prior exposure to the Batman franchise (i.e. comics) or the actual Batman films. I haven't seen the original Batman and Batman Returns since I was about 5, so it all seemed a little foreign to me. (I have ridden the Batman ride at Six Flags, though. Does that count?) I'm glad the film is getting strong support from everyone, though. It's a good film that I'd recommend, just not one that I'd necessarily want to see again any time soon.
Hitch: C
Despite the fact that I still have yet to understand Will Smith's appeal, this film falls victim to every trite cliche it seems to put to rest early on. Hitch says in the first voiceover that he knows the ins & outs of dating, the pitfalls, the cliches, etc., and it seems as though the film will follow this route while keeping in mind the cliches of rom-coms themselves. And while the film is occasionally funny and a bit charming, the last act retracts everything established in the first half and falls into romantic one-liner territory, making about 10 attempts at Jerry Maguire-ish lines that I thought we said we WOULD NOT try. Maybe I was just overestimating the film from the beginning.

Zingy, Joe Dirt? An abomination. I'm mystified as to how you could've thought that was funny.

Also recently watched 12 Angry Men for the first time (though I did see the TV remake a few years ago). Loved it.

Catwoman - C-
Not bad enough to be really fun, but not a good movie. Why can Catwoman do things even cats can't do? Why must the plotline revolve around cosmetics that are so dangerous they destroy your face but not actually kill anyone? Was Berry so desperate for a blockbuster franchise she chose to do this? Why is Sharon Stone still working? *Sigh*
On the plus side, once she becomes Catwoman, Berry isn't that bad. And she looks great in that first costume.
