So I was putting together my "most anticipated" list in the Cinemania forum, and I stumbled across the trailer for this film, and I was completely blown away.

I laughed out loud more times during the trailer than i've laughed during most full length films. It looks like Election kicked up about ten notches. I really like Ron Livingston, James Woods, and Evan Rachel Wood, so i'm expecting good things from this one.

Yes, the trailer rocked! It was so hilarious, and some of the one liners were funny as hell. I'm really looking forward to this, I'm a huge Evan Rachel Wood fan.

"Tough and cynical, Pretty Persuasion is a genre film with a twist, taking the female high-school satire farther and deeper than such predecessors as Heathers."
-- Emanuel Levy, EMANUELLEVY.COM

"A shocking glass of ice-water to the face of complacency, a giddily gross and intentionally shocking wake-up call to America's youth...or, more likely, to their parents."
-- Scott Weinberg, EFILMCRITIC.COM

"A cleverly-constructed parable of America's obsession with celebrity."
-- Harvey S. Karten, COMPUSERVE

Plot:

PRETTY PERSUASION accomplishes the nearly impossible feat of making the lives of privileged teenaged girls into the stuff of sophisticated comedy, featuring a star-making lead performance by one of today's most exciting young actresses, Evan Rachel Wood (THIRTEEN, UPSIDE OF ANGER).

Wood plays Kimberly Joyce, an insanely intelligent, wildly funny, shockingly cruel and sexy-beyond-her-years Beverly Hills teenager who will stop at nothing to become famous. Believing the world is an orchestra and she is the conductor, Kimberly masterfully manipulates all those around her. She convinces her two best friends to join her in a campaign against their befuddled teacher, Mr. Anderson, played to nebbishy perfection by Ron Livingston (ADAPTATION, OFFICE SPACE). Kimberly entangles the entire Beverly Hills community in her carefully woven web of seduction and deceit. A clever comedy with many turns, PRETTY PERSUASION has an ending that nobody but Kimberly can predict!

Wood leads an all-star cast that also includes James Woods, Elisabeth Harnois, Jane Krakowski, Jaime King and Selma Blair. It is the directorial debut of acclaimed music video director Marcos Siega, and written by Skander Halim. It had its world premiere at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival. Siega also produces with Matthew Weaver and Carl Levin of Prospect Pictures, and Todd Dagres. Executive Producers are Joni Sighvatsson, Eric Kopeloff, Rob Ortiz and Prospect's Jason Barhydt. -- © Samuel Goldwyn Films/Roadside Attractions

Genres: Comedy and Drama

Release Date: August 12th, 2005 (NY/LA).

Distributor: Roadside Attractions

Cast: Evan Rachel Wood, Ron Livingston, James Woods, Jane Krakowski, Selma Blair, Danny Comden, Elizabeth Harnois, Michael Hitchcock, Stark Sands, Jaime King, Adi Schnall, Josh Zuckerman, Mike Erwin, Robert Joy, Navid Negahban, Christopher Thornton, Clyde Kusatsu, Alex Desert, Johnny Lewis, Angelo Spizzirri, David Wagner, Brent Goldberg, Cody McMains, Ira Wood, Tina Holmes, James Snyder

Directed by: Marcos Siega

I really want to see it and I haven't even seen the trailer yet! I've wanted to ever since I first heard about it. The cast is really solid - love Evan Rachel Wood - and it just sounds like wicked fun! Also, Mike Erwin (Everwood, Jack & Bobby) is kind of cute.

Starring Rachel Evan Wood; its a new darkly dark dramedy that is, more or less, "Mean Girls for Grown Ups"

Reminds me kind of that Reese Witherspoon movie; Election ?
Its awesome to see Jane Krakowski back post McBeal; i always found her and Lisa Nicole Carlson deeply likable although as a lesbian reporter who apparently sleeps with young girls? Who knew!

I would say im looking forward to this; but that last line would make it inappropriate.

It comes out today and i didnt even realize it!!!!!

It's getting mixed reviews so far mainly because it's too dark and mean for some critics apparantly. But Evan Rachel Wood is getting universal praise for her performance, getting comparisons to even Nicole Kidman's performance in To Die For.

I'm really looking forward to it.

Well, I saw it and it wasn't all that great. It was good, with alot of potential but it just didn't have that ounce of something it needed to get there. Wood's performance was great but may have off-set some balance in the movie. The ending got much better but, I dunno, I gave it a B-, which means I might have and probably liked it a bit and am barely recommedning it; nontheless, I am recommedning it.

So yeah. I saw the trailer for this before Broken Flowers. look hilarious. incredibly funny. I'm sure the comparisons to Rushmore will pop up eventually, but I think this looks much better.

Anyone catch that Wood looks an aweful lot like what's her name from Donnie Darko and Secret Life of Altar Boys? It's uncanny.

I just got done watching it... Pretty dissapointed, the film just doesn't work. Wood's great though, she needs roles in better movies...
