Madagascar has been having a great run so far. I'm sure it has another $50-60 million left in it.

Terrific opening for Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and excellent hold for Sith in the face of the new competition. I thought people were overestimating the effect (I predicted 15M for Sith).

The opening weekend of Howl's Moving Castle even isn't better than Spirited Away ($449,839 on 26 theaters).

I don't find Howl's Moving Castle's gross that disappointing. Its PTA is lower than what Spirited Away had the first weekend, but it's also in 9 more theaters, and from people's reviews, it isn't nearly the masterpiece as Spirited Away and is probably not as accessible either. We'll see how it holds the next weekend when expanding.

I feel so dumb. I was the one who proclaimed to be disappointed by CM's daily on Wednesday, and I still held false hope and predicted 12M for it.

It might not even get that far. It could end with just about $4 million.

Monster-In-Law looks like it was majorly underpredicted by New Line *again*. I don't buy it dropping that much today.

Yeah, same here. Think most it dropped is 40%, with most likely around 35%.

But maybe Mojo slightly screwed friday and saturday estimates, perhaps those are lower.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith done fantastic!

Madagascar ($128,334,000), Star Wars ($332,108,000) and The Longest Yard ($118,106,000) all have amazing totals. Shark Boy and Lava Girl did O.K. Dissapointing drops for Cinderella Man and Sisterhood. Monster in Law and Crash both have nice totals at $76.5M and $44.3M.

High Tension dissapointed me. Although, i suppose it's not a bad gross for a movie already making profit.

MIL's Friday and Saturday both dropped 54% from last weekend, so the overall weekend drop should be similar, and it will end with 2.8M with actual.

I guess I was right yesterday in thinking that Lords of Dogtown was likely not to make the top 10. About the only thing I was right about, other than Howl.

Howl's number seems fine. It was not likely to to have quite the success of Spirited Away, and a PTA over 11K is nothing to be ashamed of.

Nice opener for Smiths, not so nice for the others.

Is it me, or does it seem like all the holdovers had pretty hefty drops. CM's seems disappointing, and Dogtown is laughable, but it seems like everything dropped fairly significantly. Madagascar was the best of the lot, and it still dropped almost 40%.

I'm afraid it will fall behind AotC when Batman opens and never pull back ahead. I think it's heading toward around $375m. Which is still great, but slightly disappointing to me after the huge opening.

I don't think its effect will be that significant. Perhaps a 40 to 50% drop next weekend to about $9m to $7.5m.

Right. And AotC did $9.4m.

The overall gross is down about 10% from the same weekend last year to extend the losing streak to 16. Next weekend is the first real chance to break that spell, as Batman Begin and The Perfect Man will only need to gross over $60M combined. Should do it with ease.

I think it will get there. It'll need a multiplier of 4.0 to get there, and with the theater count loss getting stablized and a PTA still over $2000, the drop will be back to 30% again.

Yeah next weekend is a golden opportunity. The same weekend last year was one of the weaker of the summer with Dodgeball opening #1.

Right. And AotC did $9.4m.

Could fall less as well.
