Not a sequel Appeals more to women than typical action movies do Ditto with appeals more to adults than your averge action flick.
It should run for a while and not fall off the face of the earth too fast.
Agreed. Plus I just think the film will have great word of mouth, and it is a very enjoyable/rewatchable film, in my opinion.
PEACE, Mike

Unless a miracle happens, Sith has no shot at 400 mil unless it gets an IMAX release. Still, a 380 total isn't to shabby  .
Hell no it's not shabby.. SITH will probably be the only movie this summer to even crack 300 Million like that excluding maybe WOTW.. Will have to see on that.. WOTW could pull a MINORITY REPORT type of box office to.. How much did MINORITY REPORT make?? Around 250-260 Million??

Audience seem to love Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I wouldn't be surprised if this crossed $175 million, like The Bourne Supremacy.

Plus, action-comedies tend to hold up better then serious action films.

Actually, on Box Office Guru, it annouced that the Friday Estimate for High Tension is $650,000. Thanks, Scott. Updated its projection back to 2M. How do you figure it's going to pull off a 3 multiplier? The PTA is bad enough for Friday that it doesn't have much space to have a lower multiplier. I use Mindhunters as reference. I don't think that's relevant. It's a horror movie in summer, so it should tend to have a frontloaded opening weekend even if the number of people going to see it is very small. I guess we'll find out if I'm right soon enough.
Yeah, I agree with Jeff. However low a number may be, there is always room for it to decrease percentagewise. I think Mindhunters held up better as it attracted the thriller audience rather then the horror audience interested in blood, guts, and scares (which BTW, is younger and therefore more likely to show up opening weekend). This seems to be reflected in Mindhunter's relattively nice second week drop. I think High Tension will drop over 60% next week.

How much was the budget?
25M according to Mojo.
The numbers look on the low side of expectations. Personally, I don't think its very good even if it won't lose much/may make a small profit when all is said and done.

movies35 wrote: I have to say, I am a bit surprised at HIGH TENSION'S Friday box office number. I figured it could at least pull in $1.5 million because there have been tv spots all over the place! I went to go see it at 7PM last night and there were 12 people there, 7 of those people were with me. I've seen the movie but my friends haven't. They all loved it besides my friend Chris that said it was okay. The audience seemed to like it, there were a boyfriend and girlfriend there and a group of lady senior citizens, I thought they'd walk out but they didn't! MONSTER IN LAW was playing next to HIGH TENSION so I was like to my friend "it would be funny if they thought they were in MONSTER IN LAW!" The film deserves much more than it is recieving, hopefully though it will be a big hit on dvd, I'm sure it will be. Lions Gate should release it in a couple months though, then people that wanted to see it in theaters but didn't get around to it would remember it and people that wanted to wait for dvd will remember it. It was a really great time at the movies, I was happy I finally could see HIGH TENSION on the big screen. I'm seeing it again Tuesday night with another friend. My brother thought it was weird that I was going to see it, he was like "why don't you guys go see something else? You have it on dvd , why can't you just watch it on the tv?" He doesn't understand that HIGH TENSION is a movie you really should see on the big screen. I have a big screen tv and I'm still happy I saw it in the theater. If any of you out there are doubting that you'll like the movie, you should go see it, if you're a fan of horror I'm sure you will like it. Spread the word of HIGH TENSION around to your friends, try to get them interested. I've been doing it for almost a month and it's definetely paying off.
What really pisses me off is that LG is based out of Vancouver, and the three biggest cities in Canada are Vancouver, T.O. and Montreal. Montreal is french speaking, so they wouldn't have to dub it, Toronto and Vancouver could both have at least 5 theaters where this could play. I just don't understand the decision to keep it out of Canada. I'm not saying it would have made them a ton more this weekend, but there are those of us here that want to see it. I've never heard of a major picture getting released in NA in 1300 theaters and not one of them being in Canada. Stupid on LG part.

And so to bring this up again, but I am so glad that the Honeymooners tanked. A very deserved failure.
