The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
Great movie. Fantastic performances by young leading ladies Amber Tamblyn, America Ferrara, and Alexis Bledel. Also, great performance by newcomer Blake Lively. A

BOOGEYMAN - 4/10 (D+)
HOLY SHIT was that movie horrible! It was so fucking boring and stupid and pointless. It should have been called something with the word CLOSET in the title, like THE CLOSET . My mom fell asleep after the first like 20 minutes and didn't watch the movie. She slept through it. I usually wake her up if she falls asleep, but I didn't with this one because there was nothing for her to see. It was weird too and I didn't quite get it. It didn't make sense. My dad didn't like it. My 11-year-old niece won't admit it but she was scared. And that quote on the cover saying it is the scariest movie ever is the biggest bunch of bullshit ---- EVER! This movie was sooooooooooo boring! I wanted to go to sleep. I don't know how anyone could love it, let alone like it. I would have been even more annoyed seeing it in theaters. It got lucky having its trailer in front of THE GRUDGE because that movie was huge and the trailer to BOOGERMAN looked solid so people thought it looked good. Now we have to have a sequel! Why couldn't it have been CURSED instead that did so well? I think more people would have enjoyed that. I could see how someone under 10 might find it scary or someone that has never seen a scary movie, but everyone else should be bored. It is so unoriginal and dull. It makes me really dislike supernatural thrillers because so many of them have sucked lately. I'd rather have a good ol' slasher or something. I kept checking to see how much was left. I was happy when it was 17 minutes. And REALLY happy when it was 6. WHITE NOISE is GREAT compared to BOOGERMAN. It made me appreciate that movie even more because it was at least interesting. FEAR OF THE DARK should have gotten a theatrical release over this piece of shit. That was solid for a STV movie.
I actually started to get kind of interested when his girlfriend showed up and they went to the hotel, and then that Emily Deschanel or whatever was going to the house, and then it got dumb again once he ended up back in the house .
I hope someone completely new does the sequel . And it better have new characters, or at least just keep Emily and get rid of everyone else and have it be set somewhere else with more of a plot than checking all of the closets in the house over and over again .
Ugh! This just had to come first and clean out people's wallets, putting a dent in the potential of CURSED. It's not fair! People would have enjoyed CURSED more.
I kept rolling my eyes and thinking, "Ellen DeGeneres this movie is boring as hell!"
If it wasn't for the unbearable National Lampoon's BLACKBALL (2/10 or F), BOOGEYMAN would be THE worst movie of 2005 so far! But I can at least say it's the worst wide release one. Even SON OF THE MASK and ALONE IN THE DARK, which I gave the same rating, were better.
And I thought THE GRUDGE sucked and was a bore, but even this made that one not seem quite as bad, even though they were both similar in that nothing much happened in them and it was just characters walking around hearing noises and getting scared.

Mike, if I were you I'd go see SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVLING PANTS next weekend when you see HIGH TENSION, I think you'd give it an 8/10 (A-). I gave it that but I'm thinking of changing it to a 9/10 (A-), which I think is what it deserves.

CINDERELLA MAN - 10/10 (A+)
WOW! :o What an amazing film! I never expected it to live up to the hype and truly be this excellent. I went in with relatively low expectations and was completely floored. Even though the film is over 2 hours, I didn't look at my watch once because I was completely absorbed in the story and the characters. The script is crafted so that you really care about the characters and you essentially go through their struggles. Since the film is set in the Great Depression, the background is bleak and thanks to the direction and screenplay the struggles of the characters seem completely realistic. This is also thanks to the fantastic performances. I'm not a huge fan of Russell Crowe, but he was excellent here and gives the best male performance of 2005 thus far. Renee Zellweger is also spectacular and gives an emotional performance. I've always been a huge fan of Zellweger and her work and this is truly one of her better performances. Another person who surprised me here was none other than Paul Giamatti. I wasn't a fan of last year's overrated SIDEWAYS and had never really been a fan of Giamatti as an actor. However, he is excellent here and really surprised me. The boxing scenes are filmed with expertise and seem intense and realistic. This is a true crowd pleaser in every sense of the word that will have the audience enduring the pain and anguish that the characters suffer through before cheering as they triumph. This is 2004's second best film so far and is not to be missed!

Cinderella Man - A-
A very formulistic movie, but well-executed with some terrific performances. Paul Giamatti is amazing. He has such a knack at delivering the right lines with the right tone and expression. Crowe gave his usual solid performance, while Zellweger is fine too, although I did cringe during a few lines that she delivered. In general, I prefer depressing or mind-twisting movies over straight forward uplifting ones, but for the latter category, this is as good as it gets.

2001: A Space Odyssey: **
This movie gets 2 stars for the very good middle section involving HAL. Unfortunately, I found the beginning, and especially the end, dont even come close to the middle section.
But, then again, I wasnt high when I watched it! I hear that's a neccessity.

Bad. Not funny at all. The best thing in the movie was Katherine Heigl from Grey's Anatomy. The original was much better.

From Hell - C+
Decent enough Jack the Ripper film. The atmosphere and mood of the film is perfect, and Depp's performance is pretty good, but the story is convoluted and paranoid, and the prostitute victims are annoying and I felt no sympathy towards them. Also, their explanation of the identity of Jack the Ripper wasn't intriguing or interesting. The film would have been better had they left the identity unknown, with a sort of 'hanging' ending - not necessarily tie everything up. Even so, it was better than average, simply due to the fantastic look of the film.

I Am Sam - A/A-
Terrific, Penn and Pfeiffer are both superb here.
Monster-In-Law - B-
It is a weak film, but it is an enjoyable piece of fluff. Jane Fonda is great, and despite some weak deliveries, Lopez isn't half bad.

ARE WE THERE YET? - 6/10 (C+)
The first half was TERRIBLE! Incredibly bad. But the second half improved quite a bit (at least compared to the first half). It was still only OK though and pretty unfunny.
FAT ACTRESS: SEASON 1 - 8/10 (A-)
I personally loved it! It was funny and just highly enjoyable. I'm sure quite a few would find it offensive, but I didn't really. I'm looking forward to the second season coming out and I'm glad it's getting a second season. I'd recommend it to fans of Arrested Development.
Also, Bryan Callen is hot! Very sexy!

Today:
THE SEA INSIDE - 7/10 (B-)
A solid movie but one I wouldn't want to watch again because it would be pretty dull on a second viewing. It did have some dull parts the way it was the first time around, but overall was interesting and at times had some beautiful scenery.
SWIMMING UPSTREAM - 8/10 (A-)
Wow! A huge surprise! I loved it! It had great swimming scenes, terrific performances from everyone, and was genuinely touching. This deserved to get a wider release. A real gem of a sports movie and I'm someone who usually doesn't care for sports movies. I was fully engrossed in this film the whole time. I highly, highly recommend it. I never thought it would be this excellent. One of 2004's best and one of the best sports movies I've seen!

DEVOUR - 6/10 (C+)
An OK gay-to-dvd release. Kind of silly and the ending leaves a bit to be desired, but it wasn't boring and it was at least better than that shitty BOOGEYMAN.
This morning:
FASCINATION - 6/10 (B-)
Not bad. Not nearly as great as WILD THINGS, which it reminded me of a bit, but still decent. And we did get to see Adam Garcia's ass so that's a plus.

It's a beautiful movie, and first hour or so works quite well. But at the same time, it's a mess, especially that rushed ending.
Haven't seen Spirited Away, but this is quite below great Princess Mononoke.

With Kirstie Alley losing weight so fast, I don't know if there will be a 2nd season.
The producers told her not to loose weight and she basically told them to f--- off.
So, we shall see.
