I am very suprised at Sith's good hold on its 2nd weekend. It faced two giants and still didn't fall as hard as I thought it would.

Now because of the slightly better Tuesday hold for Sith over Clones. Sith is now on target for being the fastest to $300 million

Here is what I predict it will do this week.

Tuesday - $4.40m - $274.89m
Wednesday - $4.13m - $279.06m
Thursday - $4.25m - $283.31m
Friday - $6.71m - $290.02m
Saturday - $11.07m - $301.09m
Sunday - $8.08m - $309.17m

That would give it $25.86m over the weekend which would be about a 53% drop over last weekend.

It did very well. But I don't consider The Longest Yard and Madagascar to be "giants". Solid competition, but not giants. Batman Begins and War of the Worlds - now THOSE are giants.

Though by the time Batman Begins comes out Sith will be close to or above $350m.

They are giants considering their openings, not just because of their name.

Exactly. Also I'm talking about their audience too which I thought would be taken from Sith.

How do you figure that? Sith is going to slow down after next weekend. If it gets 25 this weekend it will be at just above 300. The next week it faces Mr. and Mrs. Smith and it should gross no more than $14 million for that weekend. Even with healthy weekdays it will be well below 350. Unless I have my release dates wrong (possible)

I don't consider around $60 million debut during a 4 day weekend worthy of being called "Giants". Just very solid openings. But like I said, wait until the really big guns come around.

No #1 movie in history has faced as much competition in terms of total box office dollars as RotS did this past weekend.

Well maybe $340m if Mr. and Mrs. Smith has big effect on it.

There will only be 10-15 openers this year above 45m, so I see it as being impressive especially when there are two such openers on the same week.

Using the term giant implies an exclusive club. That of the megablockbuster. That was all I was trying to say. I'm not saying that The Longest Yard and Madagascar didn't do well. They just aren't in the same league as Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Spiderman, etc.

I get what you mean. Giant is after all just a word that could be interpreted in different ways.

Am I the only one who read the thread title and came in expecting pictures of actual tables?

Well, here's one to stop any more potential disappointment and/or embarrassment.

Mmmm... table-y.

That's what I intended Snrub. But just as I was about to hit submit button, figured we have tables as feature here.

Happy coincidence.

I'd buy that for a dollar!

If RotS manages to hit $400m I'd think it would be the slowest to do so (for original releases, obviously ANH and E.T. took longer).
