Zing, we watched Dead Poets a while ago, too.

It is good. Sad ending.

I just watched Face/Off

A few gigantic plot holes and errors, but still a fantastic action film. Great performances. I would give it a B+

It's the second time I've seen the film, and I was less anxious and nervous as before (I'm a big fan of "Firefly"). So without the personal hype going in, I just allowed myself to experience it -- to laugh with the crowd, cry, etc. And it performed very well.

The Toolbox Murders (2004) Remake

C+

Actually, not as bad as I thought it would be. Watchable. Quite violent. Watching a woman get beat in with a hammer multiple times is disturbing enough. Some of the murders are decent and a little disturbing. Some are quite stupid which ruins the serious tone the movie tries to accomplish. Svengoulie type film.

Obviously trying to imitate the late 70's/early 80's section of the slasher genre. They even have a supernatural killer in the vein of Cropsy and Madman. Stopable (?), but quite difficult to take out. That's not to say if they succeed or if they dont.

P.S. Just watched Deleted Scenes. Twisted sh*t. The R rating really is missing a lot. And it was violent to begin with. The head being sawed off with the mini portable saw as it keeps getting jammed was too much even for me.

LILYA 4-EVER - 9/10 (A-)

I wanted to show this to my parents, even though they never watch foreign films. My dad hasn't seen any and my mom has only seen THE PASSION. Whenever I watch foreign movies though in my bedroom and my mom opens my bedroom door she'll make fun of it and say something like "I don't know how you can stand to watch that." Well, I told her tonight that since she watched THE PASSION and didn't end up finding the subtitles to be that bad, then there was no reason she couldn't watch this one. So I had them watch it. At first they were complaining a bit because it's subtitled and in another language, especially my dad. So I was a little nervous at first and hoping they'd get into it. Well thankfully it didn't take long and they did. Although my dad did mock it like 20 minutes in by speaking gibberish and acting like he was speaking another language. But when my brother asked if we were watching a good movie my dad did say it was alright, and since I knew it got better and he'd end up getting more into it I found this to be a good sign and was glad he was at least not minding it so far. My brother was like, "I can't stand movies like that" and said something like "Those two girls are cute but they're speaking another language." I told him the reason he can't stand movies like this is because he's closed-minded. Anyway, he went to bed. My parents got more and more into it. My mom usually falls asleep during movies, especially when it's so late, but she was wide awake during this one and they both got really into it and didn't complain at all anymore. They found what happened to the girl disgusting and thought what her mom did was terrible. My mom actually wanted to stop it when like two minutes were left to go and have a cigarette but I told her just to hold on because it was almost over, which she was actually disappointed about.

Anyway, it definitely got to them and they found it powerful and tragic, and for them to like a foreign film is quite an accomplishment. But they were definitely engrossed in this one. I'm really glad they actually thought it was great. My mom is now wound up and not ready to go to bed yet, and it's almost 1 AM. I hope to show them some more foreign films now and eventually get them to not mind them at all.

Hysterical Blindness: B-
A 2002 HBO film (won a couple Emmys). Juliette Lewis is pretty good and Gena Rowlands is great (much better here than in The Notebook), but... meh. Nothing too deep here, and Uma Thurman overdoes it a bit. (It's the 80's, let's dance, let's get drunk!!!)

Citizen Ruth: B+
Quite good, if not a little cop-out-ish.

I've been watching the first season of OC the past couple of days. It's much better than I remember it being.

ONG-BAK: THE THAI WARRIOR - 8/10 (A-)
Absolutely amazing! I liked it even more than the hilarious KUNG FU HUSTLE. The acting wasn't amazing or anything, actually the girl was pretty bad and annoying but I looked past that. Some of the movie was really funny, I laughed quite hard more than once and some of the movie really pulls at your heartstrings, though with the bad acting it seems more funny than sad (except the girl and the coke, that really was sad and disturbing). If you like asian films make sure you check out ONG-BAK, I thought it was an amazing journey.

Fat Actress: Season 1

B-/C/D+ depending on episode. Average grade of C.

An ok/mediocre show. The premise and idea of the show could have worked much better in more capable hands.

Basically, ok to get through, but won't set the world on fire. The type of show that is destined to come and disappear rather quickly. Basically, don't expect a long running show that turns into a classic.

Fall Time (1995) Stephen Baldwin, David Arquette, Mickey Rourke

C

"A film about a bank heist. Three teens (best friends since childhood) stage a fake heist, but two real robbers happen to come in at the same time."

This is something along the plot listed which is why I decided to rent it. It sounded interesting enough.

An action film. An action film with a bag full of homoerotic suggestions that is. This was not expected.

Not only are all three teen boys tied up at various times in the film. But, one is ass spanked by a robber as he squirms across the floor and is taunted with a gun. We also have a scene where the robber instructs one boy to take the others pants off reminding him it's not the first time he's done this. One robber seems to have the hots for the other. This is just a few things.

One straight part in the movie. A woman (a bank teller) screws one of the teenage boys (the one who gets away) in the middle of a field. They are on the run trying to stay ahead of the one robber on their trail. The boy hurts himself. She runs to get the first aid kit. She comes back. She just starts putting her hand down his pants. She then proceeds to f*** him as he stares with a shocked look on his face. She basically molests him, but he is turned on by this. Keep in mind they are in a big hurry, the whole scene comes out of absolutely nowhere, and make just about no sense whatsoever.

Some of the movie drags, but is easily solved with the FF button.

This movie is pretty violent near the end. Let's say not everyone lives. I was surprised by the ending.

As for the movie. It wasn't the worst movie ever made, but all of these suggestions were very unexpected for an action heist film. Oh well. If your a gay/bi male who likes action films, this might be right up your alley.

If your a straight male, you might get something out of this. You might also enjoy the straight sex scene if you are into being molested by an older woman a few years older than you. lol. Just beware of the several homoerotic suggestions throughout the film. You have been warned.

Today:

MADAGASCAR - 8/10 (B+)

This was really cute and entertaining. It was colorful, well-animated and absolutely hilarious. Sascha Baron Cohen steals the show as a crazed lemur who is king of the island. It also has a really sweet message about friendship that is handled extremely well. Highly recommended.

THE THIEF AND THE COBBLER - 7/10 (B-)

I rented this because I had heard about its extremely troubled production history. Apparently director Richard Williams had been working on it since the 1970s and after winning an Oscar for WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT he got financial backing. But Miramax was not happy with his cut of the film and fired him from the project, instead trying to retool it into an ALADDIN ripoff. They made the character of the thief, originally envisioned as a silent character, a constant chatterbox, added a narration track and threw together some incredibly cheesy songs that they put in at the last minute. It was released in 1995 theatrically under the title ARABIAN KNIGHT, it was a huge bomb and then it was sent to video. The original version is only available as a bootleg at this point.

Anyways, back to my thoughts on the film, I actually found it to be a pretty decent animated feature. The animation was very unique and gave the film a great look. It was also very inventive and creative. I also found certain scenes to be excellent. But it is a flawed film. It's fairly obvious that the thief is meant to be silent for his mouth never moves, but for some reason Miramax tries to fool the audience by having him talk constantly. The songs are also a horrible addition and add nothing to the film. Overall, it's definitely worth a look for some solid animation and the fact that it is never really boring. I was entertained the whole way through and it held my interest. But the fact of the matter is that I would much rather see what the director originally envisioned instead of some completely different version. I guess we will never see what this film was truly meant to be.

MONSTER-IN-LAW

An enjoyable comedy. Very funny. Wanda Sykes had a great performance. Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda also generated some good laughs. The audience along with me enjoyed the film. A-

A very well done Thriller. Ashley Judd is great, as is Tommy Lee Jones. I like the way the story was explored, and all of the twists were handled great. I also really liked the ending.

Tonight:

CRASH - 10/10 (A+)

What an amazing, moving, heartbreaking and important film! It surpassed all my expectations by featuring a fantastic screenplay with a countless list of truly flawless performances. Easily the best film of the year so far. Everyone must see this one!

THE LIFE AND DEATH OF PETER SELLERS - 4/10 (D+)

After seeing one of the most brilliant films in quite a while I came home to watch this weird, stupid and extremely lame piece of crap. A fine cast and an interesting premise is wasted with a horrible screenplay and an annoying lead performance from Geoffrey Rush. Emily Watson gives the only performance of note here. Charlize Theron does her best, but her part is so small and she is given very little to do. Anyways, a horrible film and a major disappointment.

Hm, maybe I shouldn't have let that slip. Heh. Well, in the last three weeks my left lung collapsed twice so I had to go to the hospital both times and have a tube on the left side of my chest... Hopefully that won't happen again. -_-
