Dynasty: Season 1

Wow, this show is corny and dramatic. The Primetime drama of the 1980's. Sort of like how Desperate Houswives is the primetime hit of the 2000's. A hit during it's heyday, but this season limps along as it's just getting of the ground. Some of the things done and said would never be accepted as "normal" in tv nowadays. They might and do happen, but would never be justified as acceptable.

A beef I had. The new wife getting basically raped by her husband (pinned down and crying). He then brings her flowers the next day and everything is cherry and she says how much she loves him. She knows he was just under pressure, puts on a smile, and gives him a big hug. Wow. Now I could see this happening in a drama. But, the way it is presented was just way f-ed (sorry, don't know how else to say it). Sort of like casually forgetting some lipstick. All is forgotten immediately and it's not mentioned throughout the season again. We will see if Season 2 brings it up again.

The arrival of the bitch (not an insult as it's what she is universally known as pop culture wise) has not yet occured which makes it sort of dry. Will try Season 2 when released.

SON OF THE MASK - 4/10 (D+)

I actually didn't think it would be THAT horrible. To me it looked like it would at least be entertaining. Not funny, but maybe "cute" or somewhat enjoyable. But it ended up being lame and cheesy and some things in it really don't make sense. Like, how would the wife be able to find out she was pregnant the very next day? So many things just didn't add up. It wasn't boring, which is about all it really has going for it. Other than that it's just kind of stupid.

Kids will probably enjoy this though. They like slapstick and toilet humor.

A FOND KISS - 7/10 ( B )

The first half of the movie I really wasn't into and actually thought about not finishing it, but since I payed for it I decided to keep watching. I'm glad I did because the second half was really good. I eventually plan on buying the movie and on a second viewing I would probably enjoy the first half a bit more knowing what a solid second half is in store for me. I recommend it!



CHAPTER ZERO - 7/10 ( B )

A really solid movie! Laurel Holloman was adorable and her character was like the perfect girlfriend. Walsh's character acted like such an idiot sometimes!

KINSEY - 6/10 (C+)
I really enjoyed the first hour of it, then I just lost interest in it. The content in the film wasn't bad like many have been saying. The images weren't terrible but I was somewhat surprised to see them in a film. I really enjoyed the documentary on the dvd though, it was very interesting. The acting was quite good as well. My rating might go up to a 6/10 (B-) or a 7/10 (B-) on another viewing. I've been anticipating this for a long time, I'm very disappointed.

She is. She was adorable as hell in THE HOT CHICK, and sexy, fun, and funny in MAY. I also liked her in the "alright" STV horror flick LOVERS LANE. A lot of people loved her in LOST IN TRANSLATION, but I didn't think she was THAT amazing, which has a lot to do with me being underwhelmed with the movie I'm sure. Since I didn't think the movie was that great I wasn't impressed with anyone in it very much. I was just glad to see her in it though. Seeing her in any movie is nice. I adore her! She's my favorite actress. She has quite a bit coming up this year, including WAITING with Ryan Reynolds, and BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN with Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Williams, and Anne Hathaway. There is at least one other that is supposed to come out too. And in case you didn't know, she was on the final season of FRIENDS.

She's been in other movies too. She had small appearances in WINTER BREAK and EDEN.

I loved her in LOST IN TRANSLATION.

But you loved the movie too, I didn't. I thought her deleted conference scene was easily the best and it should have been in the movie. Now that was actually funny!

RT 59 reviews, 40 fresh, 19 rotten. It was only 68% fresh and 64% cream of the crop. I do understand how people might not like this. I'm not above playing the relateabliltiy card. There is definately a personality and sense of humor I relate to having family and being there several times in my life. I think certain situations will go over people's heads, and will sound ruder than they are (not knowing the situation there). I also think this movie has a few problems, I just prefer someone trying to grapple with (and not fully succeeeding) bigger questions rather than thinking they have all the answers and just doing a neat little expository package. I've complained about that already in another movie this year.

Walk on Water deals pretty heavily with some of the racism towards Palestinians, but also has some pretty rough moments of commentary on suicide bombers and the Israeli mentality to them. Dealing with ex-nazi's is also very touchy. The agent speaks about how his mother came from Germany before the war, but Germany was never to be mentioned in the household, etc. I'd say that's even two or three generation removed and there is still a spectre of it today. Not with me and my siblings, but until three years ago (when my sister went to live there) Germany was never mentioned in our house around my mother. Even though she didn't directly go through it, her parents and grandparents did, and there was clearly some post-traumatic disorders. Its a very tough subject,, memory, even today. I related exceptionally strongly to how Water handled it. Especially Pia's discussions around her past boyfriend. When the nazi comes out of hiding (from Argentina) at the end, I almost freaked for some reason. I dunno, mostly because of the palpable tension Etan Fox built up around the subject. Israel is really on the border of letting it go (as is shown in the movie) but not quite being able to.

On a side note, its the first movie I've been to in ages where I didn't have to read the subtitles, except for when they were speaking in German that is. Most of it was a mix between Hebrew and English exchanges.

Alone in the Dark- Im going to give it a D-, funny movie!

Well it wasnt THAT bad, HOTD was worse, but dont get me wrong Alone in the dark its absolutely HORRIBLE
Uwe Boll pulled the same crappy "action sequence" with House of the Dead, the lame music, cheesy gun shooting and horrible visuals!
ooh and that sex scene was hilarious and totally unnecessary

its not the WORST of the WORST but its pretty much up there
im so glad it was a download, i didnt want to waste money on this piece of shit!
and if this movie was set up for a sequel, thats just so sad,.... REALLY!



PS, Tara Reid Sucks!

I think Tara Reid seems fun and I'd love to hang out with her.

And HOUSE OF THE DEAD was more entertaining because it was so bad but much funnier and stupider. Uwe Boll gave ALONE IN THE DARK a serious tone and that didn't work at all. If you're going to make a bad movie, give it a fun non-serious tone like DEAD had, don't take it seriously! Technically, ALONE IN THE DARK is the better flick, but HOUSE OF THE DEAD is more watchable. There was more to laugh at in DEAD. It was easier to sit through. It was less boring than DARK. Both get ratings of 4/10 (D+) though. And DARK has the most out-of-place sex scene I've ever seen. It was so bad and laughable!

Team America: World Police: B+
Loved it! There were some moments that I felt were just huge missed opportunities (too much mocking action flicks, not enough wit), but overall I did laugh quite a bit. Much more than I thought I would. My favorites: "We're gonna need a montage. Montaaaage!", "Gary, if you get captured, suicide may be the only option" *hands him a hammer*, and of course, "I miss you more than Michael Bay missed the mark...when he made Pearl Harbor..."

I also watched Trainspotting last night. Liked it. Great energy.

And while I can usually take a lot on screen, I had to cover my eyes at the suppository toilet swimming scene.

SON OF THE MASK - 8/10 (B+)
Really cute family movie, one of the best I've seen in awhile actually. I didn't think it was bad at all and the acting wasn't too bad either. It was just a really fun flick.

I thought it started out well but then it got really stupid. Most of the movie you couldn't even see what was going on. Very disappointed!

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

After seeing it for the 1983rd time, I can say its still one of the best movies ever. 10/10

The Witches of Eastwick- B

All three leads are excellent, including an over-the-top Jack Nicholson. The effects are a little dated, but cool nonetheless. Also had some funny parts, and it was quite entertaining. I thought the ending was great as well, very simple, but good.

Cheaper By The Dozen- B-

A fun little movie. Most the kids are annoying, but good in their roles. Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt are great. It's a fun movie, but not much more.
