The Island of Liars and Knights
Those are the riddles about the Island of Liars and Knights. This island is exclusively populated by Liars and Knights:
Liars - Inhabitans of the Island who ALWAYS lie
Knights - Inhabitans of the island who ALWAYS say the truth
(I posted some of them on BOM and I'll post the same ones again here because they are kind of connected to each other, so you can solve the ones you already have again before I'll start posting new ones)
An anthropologist named Abercrombie arrives at the Island of Liars and Knights. He knows that the island is populated by Liars and Knights and that it cannot be determined by outward appearance who is a Liar and who isn't.
RIDDLE #7
When Abercrombie returns home he gives a press conference about this island. A young reporter, named Bill Ryan is so curious that he decides to go to the island himself.
Some months later he finally arrives at the island. He finds the wizard of the island and asks him some question in an interview.
"Tell me," says Ryan "when did you start getting interested in logic?"
"It began in my childhood. My uncle has often told me about the island of Knights and Liars. Now I think that he actually knew that the island exists. Well, anyway, one day he told me a story about a shipwrecked traveller who met three inhabitans of the island: Anthony, Bertrand and Clive. The traveller asked one of them: "Are you a Knight or a Liar?" Anthony replied, but in a foreign language. Bertrand sais: "Anthony said that he is a Liar". But then Clive said: "Don't believe Bertrand, he lies!". The traveller was very confused at first, but then he knew if Clive was a Liar or a Knight. My uncle didn't want to tell me who he was, though, I had to find out by myself." tells the wizard to Bill "Do you know if the Clive was a Liar or a Knight?"
Bill has no clue, so the wizard explains it to him...
Question:
Was Clive a Knight or a Liar?

Bill has no clue, so the wizard explains it to him...
Question:
Was Clive a Knight or a Liar?
Answer
Regardless of who Anthony is, he replied that he is a knight, because a liar would always lie about being a liar. Therefore, Bertrand lied, and Clive said the truth.
By the way, Artur, I consulted a friend of mine, and he said that the problem you presented yesterday does not have a common solution. What you need to do is state is that it has a singular solution, and then just guess.
How was your math test today?

Anthony answered 'Knight'.
If he indeed is a Knight, he would tell the truth, so 'Knight' and if he's a Liar, he'd lie about him being that, and again will say 'Knight'.
So Bertrand lied, and Clive told the truth, and is a Knight.
Good, bad, close?
EDIT: Judging by Krem's response, seems good enough. :=)

Krem and Nebs, you both are correct and great as always!
@Krem
Thanks. I have talked to others from my class and none of them could solve it, hehe. My math final went pretty well, my best in 1-2 years, definitely. Besides one task (there were 5) everything was easy.

A minor detail - that friend of mine is a PhD student in Math at NYU, and he KNOWS what he's talking about
That type of equation is called "Transcendental "

I do believe you. I just have never had to deal with an equation that has only one variable and yet it cannot be solved.
My next riddle is coming up soon.

Okay, I am typing up the newest riddle from the series. However, as they get somewhat more complicated, you should keep in mind that I am translating all of it from German into English. Therefore, some things might be not clear. Don't be afraid to ask, though.

The Island of Liars and Knights
Those are the riddles about the Island of Liars and Knights. This island is exclusively populated by Liars and Knights:

Knights - Inhabitans of the island who ALWAYS say the truth
(I posted some of them on BOM and I'll post the same ones again here because they are kind of connected to each other, so you can solve the ones you already have again before I'll start posting new ones)
An anthropologist named Abercrombie arrives at the Island of Liars and Knights. He knows that the island is populated by Liars and Knights and that it cannot be determined by outward appearance who is a Liar and who isn't. When Abercrombie returns home he gives a press conference about this island. A young reporter, named Bill Ryan is so curious that he decides to go to the island himself.
RIDDLE #8
"Now, living on this island, In remember many stories my uncle told me," says the wizard.
"After all these years on this island you still don't know who is a Knight and who is a Liar?" asks Bill.
The wizard tells Bill a story, responding to his question: "Well, about two weeks ago I was going for a walk at the beach and met a man I didn't know. Since I knew that there weren't any visitors on the island at that time, I knew that it was an inhabitan of the islad and therefore either a Knight or a Liar. But I had no clue which of the both he was. When we walked by me he mumbled something and I heard it. I thought about it for a moment and shouted: "If you didn't say that, I would believe it! Before you said anything, I hadn't known if you are a Knight and a Liar and I had no clue if what you have just said is true or not. Now, however, I know that what you have mumbled is false and you must be a Liar!" "
"What did he says?" asks Ryan.
"What do you think did he say?" says the wizard
"Well, he could have said two plus two equals five, right? Wouldn't that convince you that he is a Liar" asks Bill.
"Of course it would, BUT you obviously didn't understand what I have said. IF he said THAT I would be able to say that he is a Liar because I already knew BEFORE he said it that 2 + 2 isn't 5. HOWEVER, I could only decide if his statement was true or not, AFTER he has made it and ONLY BECAUSE he has made it. Can you think of a statement that he could have said?" explains the wizard.
Bill has no idea...
Question:
What did the unknown man on the beach mumble that the wizard recognized being a false statement and therefore the man being a Liar?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think this one should be somewhat harder

A guess here:
Could he say something along the lines of "Brr, the water is bloody cold today", while being fully dressed and having no signs of going in the water at all?

Nope...highlight to read why not...
He could have been in water long before that and this statement could have been true. A statement that he made can be proven false with a 100% certainity. It is a hard one, give it some time. Hint: It has nothing to do with weather and water, hehe.

Nope
Because just like with 2 +2 = 5, you know beforehand that a mute person can't speak. The wizard could only deduct the truth from what the person has said. It wasn't something obvious like that.

I don't necessarily like that. The Wizard DIDN'T know beforehand whether he was mute or not (which is the piece of information he utters, not the fact that mute peopel can't talk). It seems to fit the requirements of the problem.
Bleh, unless it's some sort of a double statement, I can't think of anything for now.

Okay, I'll clarify it for both of you:
The fact that the statment is wrong can only be achieved by logical deduction. The statement cannot be something obvious like "I am mute" because everyone knows that a mute person can't speak. It is not something that DIRECTLY contradicts any possible reality right away. It is not some kind of a sheer IMPOSSIBLE statement.
I'll give you a hint: What he said has something to do with the riddle before (Riddle #7). There is something in that riddle that partially appears in the statement of the guy on the beach.

Nope, but close. Read:
Much closer than others, but not quite because the wizard knows beforehand that this cannot possibly be true because no on on the island would ever lie once. The statement you are looking for is something that could be true IF this guy didn't mumble it. Read Riddle #7 again

Not sure what you mean by this Krem, and prolly am trying to explain what you already know...
[highlight to read]
Only numbers you can get from two-digit number-(1st+2nd) are 9 and it's multiples (if that's a word? If not I mean 18, 27, 36, 45...). And just check the symbols by those numbers.
