ROTS Opening Day.

Because it happened on a non-summer weekday, weekend or the holiday period.

OK, that's a good point.

I just wish that SW would have broken another daily record.

Maybe it can get the 12 Million one on Tuesday?

I still think Shrek 2's $44 million day is the most amazing. I think everyone was pretty much expecting $44+ million for ROTS, but Shrek 2....

And Shrek 2 made all that in a very short time period. I still don't know how it managed to make that much.

ROTS' day is still great, so don't get me wrong.

ROTS day was amazing, but somewhat expected.

I think the most amazing was Spidermans opening day, and even better, its second day. It was something really, really unheard of at the time.

Again, no offense but as Sith need another days worth of Midnight Shows, I would have liked for them to have gotten another daily record during the weekend.

We're all aware that Spider-Man had midnight shows, correct? Midnight shows happen on the day of release, so they should count towards the gross.

Your logic is flawed.

It's foolish to think that if Sith had no midnight showings, it would have made only $33 million on Thursday - not likely that all of the die-hards who went at midnight would not have gone during the day.

Midnight shows are part of any blockbuster's opening day, and - since they start at 12:01 AM - they are still part of that day, technically. Sith is no different from any other blockbuster, so it's stupid to detract it's midnight shows when you don't do the same to Spider-Man or others.

Goldie, are you aware that a day is from 12:00AM until 11:59PM? Sith's midnight showings were technically on the same day.

Yes I am aware that it is all in the same day as per I said it made the 50 Million.

And the others don't have MIdnight Shows as they are on Saturday.

I just think that the Midnight Shows streched the number to 50 Million with some theaters having between 5 and 20 showing ( or an extra days worth of showings ) at MIdnight. It was almost like combining 2 days into 1.

I am just very disappointed that SW didn't get another day's win over the weekend.

That would have shown that it had a great opening.

Now we have to wait and see its staying power is on what its grosses are.

bump - let's see if SW can get the easiest Tuesday record.

Then we can hold judgmeent until the final numbers.

or

with this start it better go 400 +.

or

maybe beating Spidey's 403.

Because clearly getting $158m in four days isn't enough to show that it had a great opening.

Spider-man's in my opinion. It shocked everyone with the huge opening day, and then shocked us even more when it increased so healthily into Saturday. That is absolutely insane, when it opened ON the FRIDAY. Most blockbusters decrease if having opened on friday.

Shrek 2's is also memorable in a way because everyone yelled "doomed!" after the small wednesday and thursday numbers, not realizing that the weekend numbers would be so bloody huge! It was a big shocker for most.

PEACE, Mike ;)

With the amount of Midnight shows it had - with some theaters having a days worth of extra showings - I would bet the above average is closer to 5, not 4, days.
