Neither has $46 million in a single day. You were expecting the film to increase something like 40% over AOTC's opening?

BLEH, If the film did NOT have midnight showings then it would easily beat Shrek 2's record AND SM record. Be real ppl. Those midnight viewers would obviously have to see it during regular show times if it wasn't available.

$46M, if it is true is an awesome number and $16M improvement over AOTC.

If those numbers are true it has 15 Million less in regular showings than the biggest single day so far. It is nothing to celebrate like crazy. And 50 is just such a beautiful round number

Thur: $46.0 Fri: $30.0 (-34%) Sat: $38.0 (+25%) Sun: $29.5 (-22%)
3-Day: $97.5 4-Day: $143.5 What makes you think it'll have such a sharp drop on Friday? Attack of the Clones' first Friday only dropped 19% from the Thursday opening. The market hasn't changed that much since then, has it? Sure it might be a bit more frontloaded, but I don't see why it shouldn't be able to make at least a 25-30% drop.
The calculation isn't that simple. ROTS had a much higher midnight total than AOTC. We have to exclude those when associating Thursday-to-Friday holds. If 46M is true, then without Thursday midnight gross, ROTS would have 29.5M, while AOTC had about 23-24M (its midnight gross was 6-7M). So AOTC increased a tiny bit on Friday. From that pattern and the early report today, I expect a similar result for ROTS, and that will give it a 30M Friday.

I meant for a neutral box-office observer. Fox executives and total Star Wars junkies will be happy as hell of course...

I will be dissapointed with anything under 50, I can't lie.
I know it is irrational ... but I can't help it.

Well most of the people that saw it at midnight, came back on Thursday to watch it. People who are willing to see it at midnight on a weekday, obviously aren't going to see it only once. The extra 17 million would've been added in eventually, but not necessarily all the first day.

But they may not have the chance to see it during regular show times due to sold out or other factors, or they could squeeze others the opportunities because there aren't enough showtimes during the day to take all the demands. A lot of people would be forced to see it on weekend. There is no way that it could break record without midnight showings. Oh, also a lot of fans saw it multiple times on Thursday and paid multiple times. Without midnight showings, that percentage would've gone down as well.

I wish there was box office records back into the 1920s. I read somewhere in my history book that theaters back then had an average weekly attendance was over 100 million.

Your right of course, I will get over it eventually. I currently estimate about 5 min after seeing the real numbers. That is unless this sucker pulls a HP3 and dives quicker than a stork after fish.

And accurate to the digit as well, so no estimate, no more adjustment. Real number. 50M.
