That would be a great number. Still broke the record.
That means about $30M on Thursday excluding midnight showings. Attack of the Clones didn't decrease at all on Friday if you exclude its Thursday midnight gross, so I expect similar Friday from ROTS and leading to a 100M weekend.

That sounds about right.........I was thinking $51 million...........if it is 46, should fall at least 30% on Friday to around $32 million.

Alas, I am dissapointed.
How ironic is that. How stupid is that.
Whatever I wanted a 50 million day.

Me too. Usually with these types of movies, the opening day if it is not on the weekend is about 50% of the 3-Day weekend. Of course there are others which perform differently...
I think it will be right at $91 million for the 3-Day weekend.

I will wait longer for some official numbers. With Shrek 2 last year the Saturday numbers went up few time before they reach the final numbers

I was thinking about $95 million for the weekend. Only because the rush out factor seemed so great for this Star Wars. I don't see this making it to $100 million, but if its close you know they will estimate it at 100.

If it is indeed true that Friday is selling more than Thursday in the afternoon, then it would put Friday at around $30 million, since Thursday is about $29 million without midnight showings.
Thur: $46.0
Fri: $30.0 (-34%)
Sat: $38.0 (+25%)
Sun: $29.5 (-22%)
3-Day: $97.5
4-Day: $143.5

Why do you all trust that guy from HSX? Has he proven himself as a reliabe source before? I'm not convinced at all that this number is legit, it is too early. Remember when BOM had early numbers on Spider-Man and were way off to the actual estimate?

If a fox executive said 50M it could be anything from 48-49.5, but surely not 50. If it was 50 he would have said 51

So... am I the only one that realizes -- if this is true -- Revenge of the Sith has shattered the largest opening day record by $6 million, and just managed the largest single day of box office in history?
Why so glum?

There was a guy who came into Ticker Talk a couple of weeks ago and had the numbers for the openers spot on hours before SBD and BOM reported them. I'm not sure if it was the same guy though - he ( the reporter of the House of Wax/Kingdom of Heaven numbers) was an "insider" and that was why he knew ahead of time what they'd be on both Saturday and Sunday. Unfortunately the boards at HSX have no search function and they're only archived as the previous 20 pages on another site so no way of knowing if its the same guy... basically just wait and see at this point. (I'm looking for big $s off this one so I want this prediction to be low but its still a damn fine one-day take).

Usually with these types of movies, the opening day if it is not on the weekend is about 50% of the 3-Day weekend. Of course there are others which perform differently... I think it will be right at $91 million for the 3-Day weekend.
Star Wars movies being the the others that perform differently. Attack of the Clones Saturday was its biggest day.

What makes you think it'll have such a sharp drop on Friday? Attack of the Clones' Friday only dropped 19% from the Thursday opening. The market hasn't changed that much since then, has it? Sure it might be a bit more frontloaded, but I don't see why it shouldn't be able to make at least a 25-30% drop.

Bah, Shrek 2 still has the highest 10 hour sales. It made $44 million from noon to 10 PM. It didn't cheat on these "midnight showings" as which you call them..

Midnight showings happen on the day of release. How is that cheating? It's not pulling a Matrix Reloaded and opening on May 18.

Because we want it to exceed $50 million in one day, and $100 million in two days. Something that has never been done before.
