Um? Who gave it "F's" ?????

Seriously. I didn't like the previous two installments, but I wouldn't have even given those F's, and this one's supposed to be even better? i was expecting some C's and B-'s, but those F's are, ahem, suspicious?

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith: Best of the Prequels!

I loved Episode 2, but Episode 3 is even better! (Episode 1 sucked, of course.) The series comes full circle and thus ends at the beginning of Episode IV: A New Hope - so it's not exactly a happy story (unless you're a Sith supporter). I enjoyed the overlapping storylines and the integral (and awesome) action sequences. I felt very satisfied with the resolutions of the story threads - everything was logically and emotionally true to the spirit of Star Wars. The acting was plenty good enough to get the job done. You can tell that Lucas has sought and applied feedback from his earlier work on the saga - this is a tautly paced thriller of a space opera!

5 out of 5.

It's 3 F's, now.

Seriously, there is some idiot at these forums that goes around voting F in quite a bit of the movie polls. They'll never admit it, so just let them drown in their own negativity.

I saw it today and was really surprised. I'm not a fan of the series and had low expectations and came out completely satisfied. It was entertaining, engrossing and sad. I actually cared about the characters here, which is more than I can say for the other installments. The last 40 minutes were fantastic. Anyways, this was a huge surprise that I plan on actually seeing again. I'm just glad there's finally one of these films that I don't have to call overrated ;)

7/10 ( B )

Star Wars, we're counting on you cracka.

Ha! I just watched it for the 5th time and if I would've read this I would have actually took pictures (with my cell phone)! Oh well, I might take some pictures on Saturday!

Current status: Disappointed.

The good:

- I really felt that the three leads (Christensen, McGreggor and Portman) hit there stride here. I felt a real emotional connection between them. The dialog is up to Star Wars standards, one clunky line really stood out but really not that bad.
- The Mustafar sequence pretty much met my every expectation.
- The sequences with Obi-Wan on Uptau (sorry spelling) were also equally well staged, as was his duel with Grievous.
- Best plot line of all 6 Star Wars
- Anakin's fall to the dark side made believable.
- The execution of Order 66 is really sad... watching the Masters get cut down on the various worlds.
- The scene where Anakin is thinking about rescuing Palpatine and he and Padme are looking across the buildings of Coruscant to the buildings that the others were in was a great, great scene.

The bad

- Battle droids should not talk. And when they do, they should say something robotic... not act like "Playskool's My First Battle Droid".
- R2-D2 is like a completely different machine in this one. He's funny and does cool things, but like everything else, he becomes part of the CG missmash.
- C3P0 has been undercut by the prequels and is again here.
- The Wookie sequences are a waste of time.
- Grievous' cough.
- Some of the voice over work, of special note is that horrible Nemodian on The Invisible Hand.
- So much intercutting and wipes, every 2 seconds we're on another planet and somethign else is happening
- While Ian plays Palpatine extremely well, the cackling, vampiric Emperor is unevenly played throughout the movie and produces some... sound effects, that made me wince during the important show down with Windu and Yoda.
- The Mustafar sequence is NOT uncut and is interjected with the much less important Yoda/Emperor duel, which takes focus away from the Mustafar sequence.
- "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
- Padme birth/death scene is killed a bit by the stupid background droid making pathetic noises.

So it's not the major things that took me out of the movie, it's all the little minor screen added things.

So my honest reaction afterwards was disappointment. I'm not mad or feel no need to be agressive about it. I was surprised how indifferent I ended up being towards it.

Aside from the one bit I highlighted which I strongly disagree with, I felt exactly the same in every way. Oh, and Loyal, my friend also told me about the Grevious cough explanation, but honestly, don't you think asking someone to know a specific plot point of the cartoon spin off is a bit much? And yes, his action scene was a lot less cooler then I thought it would be from the 10 seconds I saw of him fighting off all the multiple Jedis. He was alright, but ultimately pretty pointless. It seems like they could've kept Dooku alive and had him serve the exact same purpose in the plot. It still was a damn cool fight though, maybe because they actually had that genius score by John Williams in the background. It was fantastic, so it was a shame they had a number of key action scenes that were muted and ended up underwhelming.

SPOILERS?!

Saw it last night at midnight... was OVERWHELMED... saw it again today... was even more OVERWHELMED!

I've never felt so much emotion for characters in a movie. Sure, there were cheesy lines, so what, there are some scenes that totally engulf you in the moment. Such scenes as the killing of the jedi's. When Anakin walked into the younglings room... omg I cried... you just were shocked at what he was about to do. Oh, and after Obi-Wan cuts off Anakins limbs and is talking about how he was the chosen one and how he loved him... SO emotional.

After the first viewing I would have given it a 9.8/10
After the second viewing... this movie is perfect, 10/10

Some Micro Reviews (65 characters or less) from players on my site:

Overall the response to this movie has been overwhelming. This movie was everything I wanted the first two to be.

I'd be surprised if you gave it less than an A-, honestly.

Actually he does. It's near the beginning, after the Battle of Curoscant. He says "'Scuse me."

I almost vomited

Also, does anyone else think that John Williams score is probably the best ever put on film?

Thank God I was able to catch the Wednesday afternoon screening for employees. Our theatre had a 24-hour thing, and it was painful! Lines everywhere at 2 in the morning!

Quickies (with spoilers):

Hehe, the three-second cameo by Keisha Castle Hughes in all her makeup and costume glory as the Queen of Naboo? Priceless.

General Grievous - kickass character from the Clone Wars but given the Darth Maul treatment here: unspectacular demise.

Great score (esp. when the Jedis are being eliminated one by one) and visuals. The dialogue, sad to say, is still cheesy (homeboy George still can't write  ) but the story is the best among the prequels. Christensen is much more intense - yet his transition to the Darkside is very abrupt. Controlled by Palpatine? Chosen to master the Darkside? Who knows? Also, the actors still can't decide what accent to use when speaking.

A satisfying end to a great series.

B+

It's good, I listen to the CD a lot these days too, but not as good as Jedi and Empire's scores by comparison.

I haven't had opportunity to see Clone Wars yet (my devotion is the the movies and not the EU outside of that) so I didn't get the connection, I don't feel bad for not making the connection, and overall think that connection was a little too much of an annoying tick to the character than something which requires explaination.

Grevious gets good screen time, but this is the ONLY movie where he gets that screen time... perhaps if like Anakin's scar, this happened between movies, where we could see him before, and after, it would be an interesting little catch, but no... we didn't see Grevious in Attack of the Clones so...

Quote:

I disagree, Dooku had to go when he did. It set Anakin up as the rock-star, gave him an instant connection to Palpatine (and let Palpatine know that he was really on his way) and gave direction to the end of the war. The fact that Mace and Obi-Wan didn't seem to have much of a problem with it as long as Dooku was dead (and that even Anakin is aware of it as a conflict of interest) signals that the Jedi see Anakin more as a tool... means to an end... then a person.

Quote:

I think the only reason why some may have felt a little underwhelming is the intercut nature of it. I don't think Obi-Wan and Grievous' fight needed to be intercut with other footage. I would rather deal with a little bit of a time overlap problem then see the middle part of that film as jerky as it seemed to be.

Technically Grevious isn't part of the "EU." Clone Wars was designed as an Episode 2.5 of sorts. Events in those 25 mini episodes directly tie into Episode III.

I've been listening to it all day! It's really rather great (especially Battle of the Heroes), but I still think Williams' best work was on Temple of Doom.
