I just realized something kind of interesting. With only one new movie in wide release next week, and with both XXX2 and Mindhunters set to make about $2m this weekend, it looks like for next weekend we will have to predict a movie that will be making about $1m or maybe even less. (The tenth movie might be Sahara, which also looks like it would be headed for around $1m on that weekend.)

We have to predict Mindhunters, and the deadline is Wednesday night, meaning we won't have exact theater counts for all the movies.

This week is all about holdovers, and Mindhunters will be a huge factor. It's kind of funny that Mindhunters will almost undoubtedly be far more important than RotS in determining the top scores.

This is gonna suck. Let's say Mindhunter's makes $0.8 million this weekend. If you predict $0.8 million, you get 100% (obviously), but if you are one off and predict $0.7 million, your score drops all the down to 87.5%! And then down to 75% if you are another 0.1 million off. Bleh. No room for error. You have to be SPOT on just to get an over 90% score on it, heh.

PEACE, Mike ;)

A lot of luck will be involved. An actual of 0.749 and 0.750 could mean more than 2% difference in average score.

With Mindhunters, it's almost impossible to tell. Anything can happen when its opening PTA is that low. Even though theaters are required to hold onto it, they could move it to the smallest screen and reduce the number of showings to 1. It could have a Thursday-to-Friday decline without losing any theaters, as Sleepover did.

For anyone who wants to read the quoted posts above, please note the significance of the following statement:

I came fourth AGAIN this week.

Yep, just like last week.

Now I know for a fact that this game will never let me win the DVD or month pass or anything because I will never beat fourth. I have now come fourth four times ](*,) Rod was right. It really DOES hate me.

I'm now coming FOURTH for May also. Grrrrrrrrr

Derby average for Mindhunters just jumped from 0.7 to 1.1 in the last update. Someone must've dropped a gigantic number on it.

Not necessarily. That's not a surprising average prediction for it, and the first update was the average of just six people (I checked by looking at the results page).

I believe they did an update in the middle with about 80 people since I saw Sith's average jumped twice, and when the first time it happened, the average for Mindhunters was still 0.7.

The average for RotS is only a $121m 4-day so far. Maybe it will play a bigger role than I thought in determining the top scores, especially if it can really break out with well over $140m.

Edit: Ooh, this is my 100th post. :)

It still doesn't play that big of a role. Let's say you believe it will gross between 110 and 160M (big range for argument's sake), then you just multiply the two and take square root and get 132.7M, and you are gauranteed to be at least 82% correct. It will be harder to determine that minimum-maximum range for other movies such as Mindhunters, and even when we did, the middle ground may only gauranteed a 75% correctness instead of 80%.

Apparently, as it continues to climb with each update.

Also already 323 entries by Tuesday night. I guess nobody is forgetting this week's early deadline.

I'll have worst derby in months.

Prolly will put Mindhunters at $0.5m and Episode 3 at $165m. :D

And give all other movies as well harsh, really harsh drops. -57% minimal harsh.

Might be better to put that in some other games, not derby, hmmm...:-k

Already the biggest turnout of the year. Should challenge 600 by the deadline.
