The Phantom of the Opera: C
Vapid. Astoundingly vapid, in fact. Sure, the sets are nice, the cinematography is terrific, and Emmy Rossum is pretty good (she reminds me of somebody annoying, but I can't really place it), but the fact that the film is so incredibly hokey and the songs so melodramatic (and thus pretty lacking in any sort of possible audience connection) is proof to me that the stage play (which I've never seen) was and is just a little bubble of pop culture. But I dunno. Maybe crap like "Music of the Night" just works better on stage.

The Incredibles - B

After the 18,000th viewing, it gets kind of old.

National Treasure - A

After the 18,000th viewing, I still love it.

A Clockwork Orange - A

Stunning.

This is the 2nd Kubrick film I've seen (the other being Eyes Wide Shut, yuck), I plan on checking out his other work.

HOUSE OF WAX - 6/10 (C+)
Fun flick but nothing new. It's one of the best Dark Castle films, easily. The ending special effects ROCKED, at least I thought so. I loved the first half hour too and of course, the Paris death scene rocked!

LAKE PLACID - 5/10 (C-)
Was okay, liked it a lot more when I was younger.

SUPERSTAR - 3/10 (D-)
See LAKE PLACID, I just HATED this one with a passion.

Rewatch
THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA - 9/10 (A-)

Kingdom of Heaven (Second viewing) A- It was just as good as before, really a well made movie.

Crash A Incredible stuff, it was hard to get into but by the end I loved it, just as good as the trailer made it out to be.

Darkness: D-

Couldn't finish watching.

House of Wax: C

A Bad movie with a few good moments.

Alias Season 2: A-

Alias Season 3: C+

Three's Company Season 3: B+

Three's Company Season 4: B- (The season where Chrissy became a total moron and snorts like a pig continually. I prefer the toned downed and not so dumb Chrissy of the first few seasons. Slapstick comedy was taken up a notch here as well. Knotts was a good addition considering where the direction of the show would go).

ELVIS - 7/10 (B)
Okay, so it's only the first part but it was kind of boring. I'll post my final grade on Thursday after I see the next part.

CRASH - 7/10 (B-)
Well, I saw it and though I wanted to see it a lot, I was quite disappointed. While most of the acting was great, the film was partly boring. Though I didn't think that was the biggest bad thing, most of it wasn't boring. It was so god damn preachy!!! I still don't have a final rating for CRASH but it will be around the grade I give it right now. I'll probably rent it again on dvd.

ELVIS (whole thing) - 5/10 (C-)
Some of the acting was alright but the film as a whole was too boring and drawn out. It would have worked better as a two hour movie instead of a miniseries. I hated the ending too ...

ALONE IN THE DARK - 2/10 (F)
Quite possibly one of the worst films ever made. Okay, well not ever made but it's definetely in the top twenty. It started off silly, the narrator had the worst voice for what he was saying. Then it was kind of alright, the sex scene was the funniest fucking thing ever. Why would they play that song during it? The acting was terrible, the script stupid. Big thumbs down for ALONE IN THE DARK. I really wanted to like it but I just couldn't.

Ocean's Twelve: B-
Really pretty locales with really pretty people and, of course, it's entertaining. What it's lacking in, though, is narrative weight. I kept expecting this whole 'Faberge egg' thing to be one of the heists leading up to something bigger (and a lot more interesting!), but no. I laughed at the 'Julia Roberts' thing and liked the banter, but everything just seemed so rushed.

Dial M for Murder - A

Great script and direction. Some of the fast two hours I've ever spent, and the film never left the room except for the courtroom scene. Brilliant.

I Know What You Did Last Summer: B-

Well, I'm actually in the middle of it on Cinemax. Guilty pleasure of mine, I think the movie's a lot of fun.

Sarah Michelle Gellar is actually pretty good here, too. I think her chase scene is one of the most effective ever seen in a slasher film.

Glad I'm not the only one that thinks that :)

Sideways- B+

great movie, Very enjoyable, funny but not laugh out load, great performence by all the cast actually, i thought Sandra Oh did a fantastic job as well, my favorite scene was when Sandra's character beat the crap out of Hayden church!! fantastic!!

AND i really think its VERY overrated!

HOUSE OF WAX - 8/10 (A-)

I loved it! Sure, the acting wasn't spectacular, but no one was really bad and it didn't bother me that much. What did matter was that it was really entertaining, well-made and scary. The director did an excellent job giving the film a very menacing look. It's just a lot of fun to watch. I'm stuck between an 8/10 (A-) and a 9/10 (A-), but at this point I'll go with the former. Anyways, it was excellent and better than THE RING TWO and THE AMITYVILLE HORROR. I want a sequel!

In Good Company...B+

Very good film, I don't hand B+ out lightly but I loved the story, the characters and it was just the right amount of funny. Nice to see something which takes a refreshingly different route too - it didn't have your typical Hollywood ending, the relationship didn't become anything and Carter ended up starting over instead of reaching some goal, but it wasn't at all pessimistic either rather giving the optimistic message that sometimes its best to move on, learn from your past and be better for it.

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou: C
I didn't find it quite as smug as many of the critics did (I'm on the verge of a C+), and it is sporadically charming, but for a film so eccentric and 'zany,' it's surprisingly dull. The characters walk around on screen and do the whole deadpan thing with the usual Wes Anderson flair, but it's slow moving, uninvolving, and too much of it seems catered solely to fans of the director himself. Didn't hate it, but didn't really like it by any means.

American History X - A-, 8.4/10

Powerful, uncompromising, and realistic. Filled with real emotion and dialogs. An incredible performance by Edward Norton. The only thing I didn't buy into is Derek's transformation in prison. It's too simple for a person of his conviction. I wish they put more inks into it instead of just having him got screwed by the white guys and helped by a black young man. I'd prefer it to be much more complicated than that.
