What 2004 movies have you seen are oscar worthy?
Like another thread in BOM (which the person who made the thread on the site will remain nameless, all i can say it though that its one of the few good things he did) name films you have seen this year that you feel are Oscar worthy.

Hi, all...
Best Picture:
Hmmm..the only thing I've seen deserving so far this year is The Passion Of The Christ. No matter what your opinion of Jesus or even Mel Gibson is, you've got to admit it's a well-made, very powerful film.

Passion will obviously get something. It could get a big win or some little techy win here and there. I'm hoping it gets best picture though.

I don't think Passion deserves anything more than a few small awards, imo

I think Tom Cruise deserves a nod for Collateral, like Denzel for Training Day. Too bad the Academy won't recognize my faves, Dawn/Shaun of the Dead.

Oh, and I don't expect The Passion to be remembered much. Maybe a few nods, but little to no wins.

The "power" all comes from the audience who has already (for the most part) bought into the story and "the passion". I don't think the story is inherantly any more powerful than the average gorey horror movie where people die horrible bloody deaths.
I still think it will get a Best Picture nomination. It or Fahrenheit 9/11 seem to be fighting for that "controversial/high grossing (in genre)/divisive/independent" film slot.

Yes. Passion will not take best pic. To be honest i have yet to see the film that does. This year has been terrible. Look for Finding Neverland to score big if its any good.

nothing so far has been oscar worthy in terms of best pic.
Some very strong acting performances though.
I loved Tom Hanks in Lady Killers. I want him to get a nom.
Team America should get best soundtrack (though I doubt it'll even be considered)

Kill Bill Vol. 2 is the only really oscar-worthy movie I've seen this year so far. The Passion of the Christ is way too flawed to be nominated. However, it had excellent cinematography.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Kill Bill 2
Kate and Uma for Best Actress. Jim for Best Actor. I'd love to see David get nominated for Supporting Actor for Kill Bill 2. I think he is totally deserving for that.

Bump. I wanted to bump this up as it seems like, TO ME AT LEAST, a much better idea to just comment on the movies that people have seen.
In the other award threads, people are listing and picking movies that aren't even out yet. I get a laugh out of that. Especially since alot of Oscar movies haven't been seen yet.
To me, I am hoping for nominations for Eternal, Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet. I will have to comb the movie lists for my other favorite performances.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Garden State are the only movies I would consider worthy of Best Picture nominations so far. I had three other films that ranked as an A this year, but they're probably not strong enough.

I hope Collateral gets something. Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx were both fantastic in it.
