Awesome for Mariah, I reckon she will reach #5 before the song starts to fall off the charts, which is still excellent.

Hollaback is the most annoying, poorly written song in recent memory.
But its very very catchy im listening to it right now. Its a song which everyone loves but hates at the same time.
Its still better than anything half of the regular top 10 artists release.
But lets just say that if "Do Somethin" is shakespear, then "Hollaback Girl" is a playschool book.
Its nice to see Mariah Carey back in buisness. Im not a fan but its always good to see deserving artists continue success rather than fall into obscurity.

By the way; i still vocally find Kelly Clarkstons ability to rank so highly in the billboards with a very overdone set of pop songs quite puzzling. The best pop track in recent years - "Toxic", ranked number 9 tops and a song like "Since u been gone" makes top 5? Its fun, its a good track. Is it better than "Toxic" ? Don't make me laugh.
Sure the songs are really good. But it usually takes exceptional pop songs to make the top 10. That said i do really like her new songs.
I know that opinons not going to be popular with Kelly's resurgent and rabid following. But yeah...
Her new songs are basically a polished version of what Avril Lavignes done for the past 3 years. She takes that formula and drops Lavignes desires for straying from commerciality.

Toxic is much worse than Kelly Clarkson's songs.

Yes, by far.

Theres nothing thats standout about "Since u been gone". Its totally evident im bias towards Spears. But its largely BECAUSE of songs like "Toxic".
Toxic was a marvel of production, hooks and lyrically manipulative and was one of Spears biggest global hits ever
Damn straight its a brilliant song; i know goths who even bought that single. Like all out hardcore goths. Rod disagreeing with me!? Wow theres a new one! Dance Gypsy!

It was fun, it was catchy, got a little tiring after awhile...isn't evne the best Spears song.
That title would go to either Baby One More Time or I'm a Slave 4 U

I agree, Since You Been Gone is better than Toxic. Toxic is a fun song, but Since you been gone is much better in my opinion.

I think Breathe On Me is one of her best songs. The vocals are sultry, and I love the beat, and the lyrics.

I have to agree with Michael here, toxic is one of the best pop songs ever in my opinion. I'm not really a fan of Britney, but i love that song, and people i know who HATE her couldn't help but like it. It's a classic, and a huge hit for her in the UK (entered the chart at number 1).

Kelly Clarkstons latest music is very much trend driven. Dont expect "Since u been gone" to be getting much airplay in five years time. "Baby One More Time" still gets more airplay here than many new songs. "Toxic" is standing the test of time as one year after release its still having a LOT of video plays and musical spins. All im saying is that sure Since you been gone is a good pop track now; but it will age very, very quickly. Most of Avril Lavignes old tunes dont get played any more and thats only what 2/3 years ago?
I did read once that the people who deal with airplay of some sort offered to sponser Britneys 2002 tour, she rejected and ever since then its been a bitch for Jive to set her records up properly. Im not sure how much truth there is to that, or the specifics, but its been said. Toxic was also relegated to post 9pm airplay only after Nipplegate. So 9th position is pretty amazing imho; it was a number one track easily
Slave 4 U? Sure its fun; but its a GROWER; its certainly not as catchy as her other songs. Toxic has immediate commercial impact and basically compresses everything RnB had been trying to do with the Bollywood sound into one great song with a fast pace and memorable lyrics. When you can recognise a song within one second, its a big hit.
When i played ITZ for the first time i knew it would become a massive hit and i believe it still didn't sell as much as it should have, inspite of its massive sales globally [In the UK, Everytime only sold like 20,000 copies less]
I've got lots to say on my thoughts about Britney Spears and public perceptions. But i mean; every tabloid you look at has some faux story about a horrible deed with a massive image of spear's makeup-less face branding her this and that. Its really really easy to just believe the newspapers so i understand why so many people dislike her. But seriously, i hadn't heard one person dislike toxic.
Its the same with a lot of her songs; people used to love Overprotected here too; i think people find Britney Spears' music very appealing to be honest - but the sacrifice of trendiness, masculinity or whatever is a price that no one wants to pay any more by becoming a Britney fan. Sure shes more in style again these days, or she was last year anyway, but Spear's music still carries a stigma from the days of Pop. Shes a reminder of the times when now 19 year old boys used to whistle "Crazy" in class. Some people don't want to be associated with that when, of course, theres no space for Britney Spears alongside Coldplay and the ever-trendy Killers.
