Making political posts on reddit, especially on the more heretical or contrarian side for most people there these days, constantly puts me in situations like this

Me: "Makes high effort multi paragraph post about the current situation"

Opposing side activist: "Hmm, I secretly can't dispute his points, but if I cherry pick one sentence out of his whole post and pretend to ignore the overall point, I can start a whole new separate pedantic argument. This can be a substitute for winning the original argument since that one is now forgotten and my side has better chance of looking right in the new argument"

I can either take the bait and have redundant argument that had nothing to do with the original one, or seeing through these games just not reply, either way the potential of the conversation is killed off. They acted in bad faith off the bat by intentionally ignoring my actual overall points, so there is no positive way to go forward with them, they're just going to keep playing games and using "tactics". eg. On sites where people have more history, plan C may be attacking the person instead of their views, because this then is a way to try to discredit their points, or at least distracts them into defending themselves instead of their position, once again starting a new argument that dilutes the original, or perhaps they can get them to fire back and get themselves banned.

This might be kind of irrelevant but Mom’s driving is getting out of control. She’s hit her 3rd parked in in 2years (2 of them were mine in huge driveways) she’s staring to make wrong turns and when she knows where she is going it’s hard turns and 20+ over the speed limit. This might be the hardest conversation I need to have, I’ll have to feel it out with my dad first. But it’s no longer an annoyance, I think there is an actual problem here

It’s certainly tough having someone who has made you safe their whole life start to falter. Like outside of driving she is perfectly fine, but my chest tightens when she is behind the wheel now. She has vertigo which can be a factor and her mom did have Alzheimer’s for almost 25 years living ina home until she was 110, which is my biggest fear

I think it's better for here to retire from driving. It is sad but a discussion worth having as it is for her safety and that of others.

Female drivers are shit

Well I know that’s the stereotype but she never was. I’d easily put her in her prime over my brother and sister. No one has really ever been a terrible driver in my family, me and my dad especially are really good because we’ve been long time commuters, and I’ve driven a few times for nascar for work. We can drive a solid 10-15 before needing like a 20 minute break
