This movie didn't work for me at all. Aside from maybe one or two well-done musical sequences it's a total slog and the overall concept is off-putting and ridiculous. One of the year's worst.

Such a bizarre concept. I bet they thought it was so different it would bring in auds but just weird.

It's competently made movie that tries to stay away from clichés (but not when the script demands it) and the songs really pop in the movie particularly Rock DJ. The ending is rushed in an overtly long and repetitive movie. I don't see the reason for main character switch but it does work in few scenes specially the way they are shot. I did not connect with the ending as much plus no one stands out acting wise (other than maybe the Nan). They also missed the opportunity to show getting back with the group which to me would have been a great angle for and being "Better Man"

Better Man is not really helped by the fact that Robbie is played by a monkey. But the songs are tuneful, the dance numbers are well choreographed and the visual effects on Robbie are lifelike. So it mostly overcomes biopic formula but not entirely.

Wouldn’t it be the monkey is played by Robbie.

I just can’t wrap my head around this movie. This is an experimental movie that shouldn’t have cost more than 10 million. With Robbie Williams of all people? Was Elvis Costello not available? It’s been a while since I said a movie was ok, but this kind of the worst idea for a movie. I think maybe if Robbie Williams didn’t have such an ego trip I might like it more.
