Post Re: Billboard chart discussion thread
Tate had 177k "sales" first week which is pretty solid as she tries to climb into that upper tier of pop stardom (Olivie, Billie, Sabrina all had around 300k for their last albums if I recall correctly. Taylor is obviously in a seperate group from all other artists with her 2.6 million for Tortured Poets.) Would be cool to see Revolving Door hit #1 but I doubt it had enough steam to power past the Kendrick and Gaga domination.

I get the vibe with Tate and Carpenter "sluttishness... for girls" is in. Guys still aren't allowed to oggle like early 00s Britney or Jessica Simpson videos. But they can get girl fanbases supporting the open sexuality as a form of female empowerment or something. It doesn't work for Addison Rae despite having a great song in Diet Pepsi last year, because she's more villain hot and she talked to Trump at a UFC event.

Rock music bands get another Relevance Test with the new single from Sleep Token "Emergence." They have been the biggest risers in the game, already headlining basketball arenas on album 4 (first album came out in 2019.) I think Linkine Parke hit #22 with Emptiness Machine? So that is the bench mark.

I guess the average song quality doesn't help, but I'm tired of the every #1 is for 10 weeks era.

Gaga had 202k album sales. So closer to Tate than Sabrina, Billie or Olivia.

Spiritbox missed the top ten albums. :-/ . I didn't love the album but it had a ton of hype and excellent reviews so was hoping it could pass its own relevancy test.

They should really retire songs that have 52 or more weeks on the hot 100. These charts have like one shake up every few months and then stay the same for the rest of the season. Even when the songs are good its just dull seeing the same stuff over and over.

Yep, and that's why listening to just the radio sucks too.

The Billboard charts are so glacial. Takes for ever for songs to move around. I find them far less interesting to follow than the Aus Aria Charts and the UK/Euro charts.

Luther sounds like an average RnB song to me.

Ordinary seems like a song that'll still be in top 10 in 9 months.
