 Sinners Predictions
Apparently Deadline has this tracking at 40m, which would be crazy for an original film in this market.
I thought the trailer , which I’ve seen attached to everything, looks interesting but it’s basically a period zombie movie it seems like? What could be the reason for the audience interest?

 Re: Sinners Predictions
There's alot riding on Sinners. So far the hype feels way bigger than Mickey 17 but we shall see. For now I'll predict it does hit that $40M opening. $50M+ would be clutch for big budget original films.

 Re: Sinners Predictions
Expected this to do well as a black event film like the Peele movies, with MBJ as also a good lead for that.

 Re: Sinners Predictions
I think its budget is $90m so it would need a good $150m or so domestic to make it profitable because OS is an unknown at this point

Presales so far has been just bad. But I hope the surge happens in the final week.

Really? The 70mm imax tickets sure went fast. Maybe that shows that casuals just aren't into it in the way that the frequent moviegoing crowd is.

Totally across US/CAN only 10 screens if I am not wrong. Minus those presales are almost nothing.

 Re: Sinners Predictions
Maybe it's too dark?
I'll wait until first numbers, but it does seem odd if this doesn't break out. They've certainly spared no expense in marketing. Every bus shelter and bus in my city has it plastered on. I know it's not US but I imagine they're not skimping on advertising there either.

 Re: Sinners Predictions
I'm not going on presales here too much since the core demos often show up in walk ups here for a solid run.

 Re: Sinners Predictions
I still think it can do $40m+ via the black demo rushing out to see it. Plus, I'm assuming it will get good reviews and be a good film so the audience base will expand.

 Re: Sinners Predictions
Coogler's a quality director so no surprise at the good reviews. Solid opening followed by decent legs incoming. Hard to tell how the genre aspect impacts it.

 Re: Sinners Predictions
Coogler got Nolan type resources for this film from WB (who lost Nolan to Universal) so they are investing a lot in him and this project. His audience and with MBJ will show up in a Nolan fanbase esk way here. Just like Denzel's fans always show up consistently. Feeling it's going to be a WOM breakout and a $110-125M total would be great. Will go with low $40s as the buzz is definitely getting strong. And if you have a two time Oscar winning composer by your side (who won for Oppenheimer / Black Panther), definitely going to get some Oscar attention.

 Re: Sinners Predictions
I guess it did 15.5+ on Saturday and is looking at 46+ for the weekend. Well-deserved!!! This will leg out big time.

 Re: Sinners Predictions
Question is how high it can go? Next weekend its losing Imax and so will have some impact. Imax BO made up 23% of movie BO. Its not as if it will lose the audience without Imax. So if we deduct the Imax ticket rate premium, its 2nd weekend would be like 43m (I am expecting actuals to take it to 46m). I think it can do 30m+ 3rd weekend even with Tbolts opening. Then it can continue to coin good money over next month or 2. I hope it does something crazy like 300m domestic. But for now I am thinking 250m finish.

 Re: Sinners Predictions
Sinners reminds me most of Sixth Sense. A $250m+ gross would be amazing.

 Re: Sinners Predictions
Yeah either that or the Ring. Which I find interesting. I’ve heard general audiences love it but a lot of people that know movies have called it a from dusk till dawn, John carpenter’s Vampires bad knock off going as much stealing scenes and dialogue. Anyone have any thoughts I’ve been on the fence to check it out.
